Is there something wrong with me?

Omg! I'm not the only one!!!

And it doesn't help that Pop Century has AMAZING french toast! Like, seriously, this is how my week went last year:

Breakfast: French Toast w/ buttloads of butter and powdered sugar. Cinnamon Roll, tall glass of milk. Not very healthy.

Snack: Ice Cream or some sort of pastry from a bakery or candy shop.

Lunch: Something big and filling from a quick service restaurant. Favorite of mine: Cuban Sandwich from the ABC Commissary.

Dinner: All out smörgåsbord!!! Complete with cake for dessert.

Snack: Anything that tickles my fancy.

Sounds good to me! Its your vacation, eat what you want. I mean, isn't that the purpose of a vacation to enjoy oneself?

I too am a big fan of those Cuban sandwiches at the ABC Commissary!

I thought most people gained a few pounds on vacation.

Kandi, don't fret! They do!

Goodfairies, if my AVERAGE diet goes from Smart Start for breakfast, soup for lunch and a reasonable dinner i.e. chicken, pasta, any type of casserole to pancakes or french toast or breakfast pizza for breakfast, a giant cheeseburger for lunch and filet mignon for dinner, complete with several snacks in between, you betcha I'm gonna gain some weight!!!

Now, I realize that not everybody goes nearly as overboard as I. However, most people do let themselves loose a little bit on vacation and it's not unrealistic (or shameful!) to gain a pound or two while at the world.

I don't understand how someone could gain weight during vacation.[/quote]

OMG! They're amazing, right?! However, I was at Bahama Breeze a couple of months ago and I saw they had a Cuban Sandwich and I wanted to compare the two. O...M....G. Ten times better. It was amazing. Seriously, find yourself a Bahama Breeze and get one!

I have never gained weight at Disney, never, and I eat whatever I want. Unless someone is on a severely restricted diet at home then goes crazy at Disney, I don't understand how someone could gain weight during vacation.

Well, that is partially due to your age. When I was 31, I could eat any amount of food and not gain a pound. Now that I am getting closer to 50, that is no longer true. For a number of partially preventable reasons, metabolism generally slows with age.

Honestly, I do not find Disney food to be all that great. Some meals are pretty good, but others are just fuel. Most "great" meal are only great by comparison, IMHO. So, I yeah, I think you are crazy, but not for your ideas on the pre-vacation diet, but for thinking Disney food all rates a 7 to 10 out of 10. :)

So, some people I know have responded to this as "Wow. That's pretty smart." while others have had the reaction, "Is that...healthy???" So, I pose this question to others who come from where I am coming from and understand the issue a little better.

So, when I go on vacation (most WDW) I like to not have to worry about ANYTHING! I want to leave all my cares and worries at home and just let loose and have fun; no holds barred; including food!

Oh man. Anyone who's been to WDW knows the food is usually never bad it always goes from good to great! Rarely does it rank below a 7 on a scale from 1 to 10. So when I'm in the world, I like to be able to eat what I want when I want how I want it. Big breakfasts, burgers and ice cream for lunch, steak and cake for dinner and of course a couple of sweet late night snacks.

Of course, this poses the problem, after you get back, you have to worry about losing that weight and then it's not so fun anymore :sad1:

But, I came up with a brilliant solution and it has since worked for the last few years: I simply lose the weight BEFORE I leave for vacation. A couple of months before my trip (in this case, 6 months before seeing as I really went overboard this winter) I go on a strict diet and start to exercise more until I lose a few extra pounds. Therefore, I am 3 to 5 pounds under my ideal weight. This way, I can eat whatever I want when I'm down there and not have to worry about the weight! Then when I get home, I still have a couple extra pounds to play with.

But, surprisingly, one year I went to WDW, I came back and weighed LESS than I did before I went. Never underestimate the amount of walking one does in the world.

So what do you think? Am I brilliant or sick? Your thoughts?

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Sounds brilliant for you!
I don't diet before (though I should!) but I find from all the walking, I do not gain!!!

I usually work out like a nut and lose about 10-15 before my vacations. While at WDW eat like there is no tomorrow while I am there, oddly enough WDW vacations is the only vacations I do NOT gain weight. I owe to all the walking we do. I love to take a pedometer to how much I actually walk there!

Walking burns up surprisingly few calories, roughly 100 per mile.

Had an extra can of Coke today? 1.5 miles walking to burn it off. Ate one of those infamous smoked turkey legs as an extra snack? 11 miles walking to burn it off!

Hey. All I know is what the scale told me! lol. I am not a nutritionist.

Wow, I browse the dis all the time and have never heard this response before. But, I agree totally. I'm always surprised at how much people go nuts for the food is at Disney. It's so not great, it's average at best. We've been to all the "best" TS restaurants and they just don't hold up in the real world. So, needless to say, I don't worry too much about piling on the pounds during our vacation. Last year I lost 5-7 pounds and my pants we're hanging off of me by he end of the week. Now that was awesome! :cool1:

Well, I want to loose weight anyway, so I am kind of doing the same thing. I want to loose 30 pounds overall. We are leaving for disney in the middle of May, so I have about 2 1/2 months. Now, I know I can't loose 30 pounds in that amount of time, but last week I started working out agian, and watching what I eat. I thought about it, and while on vacation, I am not going to watch what I eat. I wont go overboard, meaning I am not going to eat to the point where I have to unbutton my pants, but I am not going to not get something because I think it is fatning. I think it is fine what you are doing! Don't go to strict because your body will go in starvation mode, and when you eat all that food at disney, it will stick to you!

Yeah. Probably a good idea. Lol. The first year I did this was the tail end of losing all of my weight. And I was at the weight that I wanted. I had reached my goal! But then I thought, aw man, I love Disney food and I want to eat but I don't want to gain any weight back. Which is when I had the idea to lose extra weight beforehand.

But, back then, I was dumb and naive and my logic was "Hey. I lost this weight for a reason, I HAVE to eat everything and anything!" So, I didn't always eat just to eat, I ate 'cause I thought I needed to. Er, something like that. But only the first day. 'Cause I was stuffed to the rafters after dinner that night. I thought I was gonna explode. So, I learned my lesson very quickly! But every year after that, I still enjoy myself. Like, when I get full now, I STOP. But if I'm still hungry, gimme an ice cream sundae with my reuben and cheese fries!

I did that last year before going on a Disney cruise. Was about 10 pounds below what I would normally weigh. I didn't gain 10 pounds while on the cruise, but did gain a couple. So, I don't think it's a bad idea to lost a bit of extra weight before going to WDW or a cruise.

Some of my favorite things I look forward to are the funnel cake with vanilla ice cream from The American Adventure Pavilion, any of the cookies from the bakeries, the Oreo shake from Sci-Fi Dine-In.

Oh! And something I never got around to doing last year which WOULD have been the ideal time to do it because there were six people with us: the Kitchen Sink from Beach Club. But I dunno...I'm still deciding on that.

But one thing I always look forward to each year is the food at O'hana. Unfortunately, this year, I can not go because my girlfriend is a "pescitarian" and anyone who's been to O'hana knows they're not a very vegetarian or pescitarian friendly restaurant :rolleyes1

I know this is OT but she will probably get plenty to eat with the shrimp and the side dishes. Also if you call ahead and ask for a veggie option she can do that. There have been many successful reports of non-meat eaters eating well at 'Ohana.

Get out of town! Really?! That's awesome. I will definitely *** O'hana back onto my list and make note to ask for a veggie option. You, my friend, have restored my faith in humanity! :woohoo:

I have a dilemma!
Weight is a huge concern for me - I had gastric bypass two years ago and lost 130 pounds, but it's still possible for me to overindulge.
I'm going to WDW in 9 days! Woo!
And its the first time two of my friends have been in over 10 years - so we're going to lots of great restaurants.
But I have a wedding to go to two days after I return! :scared:
The dress is a size 12 - smallest thing I've ever been in - and it fits JUST right.
It's one of those dresses that if I gain even a pound or two, it won't zip.

So what the heck am I gonna do?
Maybe I'll work out every day.
