It was mentione on another board that a child wearing Crocs had gotten his foot stuck in the teeth at the top of an escalator. It seems that due to the 'stickiness' of the material it is very easy for the end of the shoe to just go along with the moving stair and get stuck either underneath the teeth at the top or bottom of the stairway, or along the side, where the moving steps meet the sidewall.
This can be prevented by having your child always stand as far back from the inside/back area of the step as possible, and away from the sides. Then at the top/bottom be sure the child is paying attention and hops off at the right moment, rather than day dreaming and getting the front of the shoe caught. Kids have been known to get entire feet/legs stuck in those teeth..not a pretty sight.
Also...no strollers on those escalators...find an elevator even if it does take 10 more minutes out of your day!!! I could tell you stories that would curl your hair about parents trying to take strollers on escalators, with the kids still inside!!!
Also...do not let very young children ride escalators by themselves...these are not amusement park rides, although some children seem to think so. Take them by the hand and ride with them.
Thanks for listening.
