since we are considering buying into a dvc we want to see what all our options would be at different resorts manly the usa. Is there a web site that gives us the break down in point values??

You can't use points at the Value resorts. You can't use points at any resort that has a DVC resort connected to it (BC, BW, WL, AKL). You can figure that the points for non-DVC Disney resorts will be much more than a DVC resort. So if you want GF Concierge, you can plan on spending as much as 183 points per night. If you want a Moderate resort, you can plan on spending as many as 46 points per night. All of these are a whole lot more than a studio or one bedroom at a DVC resort. Plus you have to pay a $95 booking fee for each reservation out of DVC.

Plus these point amounts are negotiated each year. So they usually go up. DVC points at DVC resorts are fairly stable except for changes of holiday times.

i would like to know what the points would be if we wanted to stay lets say in ny at lake george for instance...are the point values crazy in points or are they pretty fair is there a website that tells me this?? i do have the dvc book but of course it just tells me the places we can visit not points required.

Lake george is actually one of the lower ones (if not the lowest) Just went through the book last night to see if we could afford any (out of disney vacations) and lake george was one we could do (we did 170 points). I don't remember how much it was, I just remember we could do it.

Just remember that the II trades as well as Disney collection trades are renegotiated from time to time, and the points could increase. I wouldn't buy DVC with the purpose of trading out on a regular basis. Occasional trades are great, and it is nice to have the option, but the value of DVC is in staying at a DVC resort.

To answer your original question, I am not aware of any websites which list all the other choices, or even listing just some of the other choices.

Please understand how DVC is arranged.

1. DVC-Resorts: The best value for your points usage. Currently 8 resorts (6 at WDW, 1 at Vero Beach FL, 1 at Hilton Head, SC). Future: Disneyland, Hawaii. Rumored: WDW Contemporary Points: 448 different "Price Points", ranging from (per night): 8 - 196, depending on resort, room type, Disney Season. You can get full DVC point charts by clicking the link at the top of the page. Or, if you want a copy on your computer, you can download my free DVC-Chart program which gives point charts for all current resorts thru the year 2057.

2. The Disney Collection: These include selected Disney resorts. Including: WDW: Ft. Wilderness Cabins, Ft Wilderness campsites, Contemporary, Yacht, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans. - Disneyland: Paradise Pier, Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian. - Disneyland Paris: Sequoia Lodge, Newport Bay, Hotel New York, Disneyland Hotel. - Hong Kong: Hollywood Hotel, Disneyland Hotel. - Tokyo: Ambassador Hotel, Tokyo Disneyland Hotel. - Disney Cruise Lines: Disney Wonder and Disney Magic: Room Categories 4 thru 11 for destinations: Bahamas, (3,4,5 night), Eastern Caribbean (7-night), Western Caribbean (7-night), Alternate Caribbean (7-night), Mexican Riviera (7-night), Transcanal (15-night); Points: 740 different point entries from low of 6 (Campsite) to high of 676 PP (DCL Transcanal Cruise). Hotels low of 16 pts/night (Std View, Caribbean Beach/Coronado/Port Orleans, all weekday, Value season). High of 183 pts, royal Palm Club, Contemporary, Weekend night, Holiday season.

3. World Passport collection: Interval International Trades: Aruba, Canary Islands Spain, Cancun, Mexican Riviera, Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Colorado, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Planet Earth (a list of 350 other resorts); - Club Cordial: Gavorrano Italy, Tyrol Austria (4 different-resorts), Bad Gasten, Austria, Salzburg Austria, Vienna Austria,; - club Intrawest: Collingswood, Ontario, Canada, Palm Desert CA, Panorama British Columbia Canada, Mont-Tremblant Quebec Canada, Vancouver British Columbia Canada, Whister British Columbia Canada, Sandestin FL, Zhuataenejo Mexico. Points - 325 different price points: II Trades, low of 124 pts/week, 1-B/R Low Season to 270 pts/week, 2-B/R High Season. Club Cordial, based on resort and room type: low of 11 pts/night, Studio Value Season to 58 pts/night 2-B/R peak season; Club Intrawest, based on resort and room type: low of 8 pts/night weekday Studio Value Season to 73 pts/night weekend 2-B/R Premium Season.

4. Concierge Collection: Various Hotels including: Fairmont San Francisco, Grand Wailea Maui HI, Grove Park Inn Ashville NC, Hotel Del Coronado CA, Keystone CO, Loews New York, Mandarin Oriental Washington DC, Squaw Creek Lake Tahoe CA, royal Garden London England, Sagamore Lake George NY, topnotch Stowe VT, Whitehall Chicago IL. Points: 170 different price points, based on resort, view, season. Low of 25 pts/night weekday, high of 143 for 2-B/R premium season.

5. Adventurer Collection: Special including: African Safari, Australia, American Mid Atlantic, Arizona/Utah, Austria/Czech Republic, California Hollywood, China, Costa Rica, England/France, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Peru, Southern Italy, Spain, Wyoming. Points: 287 different price points based on trip, adult/child, length. Low of (235-Child, 261-Adult) Value Season, to high of (540-Child, 540-Adult).

As you can see, to put everything on-line, someone would have to enter 2000 different price points using numerous resorts, villa types, views, seasons, etc. And these change every year. That's probably why no one has actually done it, not even Disney since they send out the books to every member.

To answer your specific Lake George question:

The Sagamore, Lake George, NY
Lakeviews: Sun-Sat, 1/7-3/31, 11/30-12/28: 29 pts/night
Lodgesuites: (same dates): 33 pts/night

Lakeviews: Sun-Thu, 4/1-6/19, 9/2-11/29: 37 pts/night
Lakeviews: Fri-Sat (same dates): 39 pts/night
Lodgesuites: Sun-Thu, (same dates): 39 pts/night
Lodgesuites: Fri-Sat, (same dates): 42 pts/night

Lakeviews: Sun-Thu, 6/20-9/1: 50 pts/night
Lakeviews: Fri-Sat (same dates): 53 pts/night
Lodgesuites: Sun-Thu, (same dates): 57 pts/night
Lodgesuites: Fri-Sat, (same dates): 58 pts/night

Hope this helps.

When we just joined, we were actually told the opposite by our guide than what we have been hearing on this board. And that is that to travel outside of Disney through the exchange it is a maximum of 160 points for a one week's stay. He said it is a better exchange rate than staying at a Disney resort.

Well, yes and no. The 160 maximum is for a 1-B/R villa. For a 2-B/R villa it can go as high as 270 points. Also it's because it's 7-nights. DVC units cost more points on weekend nights. If one were to use their DVC points for weekday nights only, then DVC stays are a better value. Example: A 2-B/R at OKW mid season, weekdays, is 27 pts/night. A 2-B/R II exchange, mid season, is 252 pts/week. That equals 36 pts/night. It's the weekends that make the difference. (Just FYI, weekday nights mid season, 2-B/R villas, for the other WDW DVC resorts: BWV-pref, BCV, VWL would be 34 pts/night, SSR 31, BWV-std 30, AKV-value 25, std 27, savanna 35)

Also, if you look at the II exchanges, many of them are considered "High Season" year round. So you pay the high season exchange rate regardless. Go to Cancun in January, get a 1-B/R, it's 160 points (22.86 pts/night). Go to WDW and get a 1-B/R at OKW, and just stay the weekday nights, it's 16 pts/night. If you go to WDW and stay over the weekends, then the II exchange can be a better deal. If you don't stay for the weekends, then you get more 'bang' staying at DVC resorts. Your guide probably didn't explain that part to you...:teacher:

Also, he's only talking about II exchanges. Using points for other things is much more expensive. For example, the OP was asking about Lake George. To stay there for 7 nights during peak season would be 356 points (Lakeview room) or 401 points (Lodge Suite).

To build on the OPs question, how do you find the point values? For instance, there are a bunch of options for Hawaii. Where can you find how much each hotel is per point? We don't need someone to list the points for us, just how do you find out? Is there a book, website, secret code, etc? 500 destinations.....how do you find the points??

yes this does help thank you, even though we will probably always go to disney, vero beach or hilton head we wanted to know if we wanted to venture somewhere else what the point would be about. this helps me out a lot thanks again!!

DVC sends a book to each member, each year. The current book is titled "Disney Vacation Club Vacation Planner 2008-2009" and lists the current points.

You have to be a member to get the book. I've never seen the information anywhere else.

Kind of like if you're an II member, you get the listing of II resorts, worldwide, every year.

Most II trades are fixed points. Everything else is listed in the book.

Has anyone ever purchased Hilton Head points to save money? You can still book at Disney each year? :confused3
Anyone ever do this?

Once you buy points - points are points. However, you can book at 11 months out for your home resort (in this case HHI), and only 7 months out for other DVC resorts. If you planned on going to HHI a lot in the summer, buying at HHI would make sense. If you wanted to go to Orlando during spring break or Christmas and owned at HHI, you might have a problem.
