Seem like that's all I think of these days. Think it, sleep it, EAT it!!! But I'm afraid if I distract myself, I'll forget all about it and then what will happen?? I'll gain back the little bit of weight I lost!

Do you feel obsessed with your eating properly? What can I do to distract myself, but still stay on tract?

KB...you are NOT dieting...remember Diets don't work!!!! You are changing your lifestyle!!! (Oh man...where is Tigh???lol).

You need to accept your program as your "new" way of life, not as a punishment that you need to find a distraction for.

So my suggestion is to try and change your mineset and realize that this is not just about losing weight...its about getting healthy for LIFE. Why would you want to go through all of this work of reaching goal...just to get back to your old lifestyle.

I know how difficult this can get sweetie...try and reaffirm yourself everyday that this is "Your choice to get and stay healthy". And "this is what I have to do to feel good about my body".

Hang in there..I know I wasn't much help...but IMHO...I really think the word DIET should be considered a 4 letter word around here. lol

Tracy, You have a valid point. I tend to overuse the word, diet myself. I really want this to be a lifestyle change. I don't want to be one of those Atkins dieters that want a quick weight loss & just do induction.

KB--Put some of your favorite music on and sing along. Maybe that will get your mind off of what to eat next.

I know how you feel, it's tough for me too. I love to cook & I keep trying some of those lo carb recipes so I can plan for future meals. What I really need to do is get outside or do something fun w/my kids. My DD7 is getting bored already on her summer break.

Have you noticed I have a penchant for Alex challenges?? It's because I DON'T like dieting- but I do have the will and drive to up my exercising and I get two benefits from it- I don't feel guilty if I go "off" my diet because I'm still working out and making my heart stronger so a chocolate chip cookie once every four weeks won't kill me. (It would if I were only dieting though) and with the exercise I really don't get the junkie cravings like I used to. Last night there was a plate of chocolate chip cookies- yes I had one but there were 40 fresh from the oven cookies next to me and instead of grabbing a second one I got my fresh blackberries and had a few of those- they actually tasted much better- that would not have been the case for me before I started WISH and exercising. If you stick to a routine of exercise your body will burn more calories and be more efficient and it helps you want to eat healthier.
Hope this helps ya! You can do this and don't deprive yourself- just try and be creative when you want something- lots of good recipes around here. Here's some bouncies for coming to WISH and expressing your frustration and letting others try and cheer you on!!!!

Yes! There is so much more than dieting.... there is the thrill of buying smaller clothes... the feeling of accomplishment...... the secret smile when someone notices your weight loss.... the attention you get makes it all worthwhile..... the ability to do things you couldn't before.... all of these are part of a wonderful new you!

I have lost about 65-70 pounds, so I am experiencing what a diet brings, and I have no intention of going back to the WEIGH things were.

Give it time.... there is so much more to life than just the diet! :bounce:

Luvinit is right, this is a life change, not a diet....

BUT....in terms of your question, the answer for me is YES! A resounding YES! :)
There is much more to life than eating less food....or eating more food for that matter! There is more to life than food....(OMG, did I just say that?? LOL!) I love food, don't get me wrong...and the thought of a gooey cheesesteak sandwich or a banana split makes me all warm inside, BUT....I know there is more than that in life...moment on the lips..lifetime on the hips...so true!

For me...Life is more about my husband, my family, my friends, my home, my quiet time alone, my trips to WDW.....and so on!

There is more to life than dieting...there is feeling good about yourself, shopping and loving it.....

There will come a day for all of us when we stop thinking and just do out of knowing that this is what works.....we will smile more, look in the mirror a little longer and walk around in a swimsuit...WITHOUT a cover up! LOL!!!!

So, is there more to life??? Heck ya! :) Focus on those other things in your life that are important...aren't those things the reason behind our "diet"??? When I focus on the joy I feel with my dh, my family, planning WDW trips, etc...I WANT to stick to it...I want to work hard....

Hope this helps!
Kamy :)

I've found that in my 2 1/2 weeks on Atkins, I'm focusing LESS on food! I actually spend quite a lot of time thinking about how good I'm feeling and how much energy I have. I do have to think a lot when planning meals, but once that's done, I don't obsess about food all day.

It's amazing, because whenever I dieted before, my favorite past time was looking through cookbooks!! I know it's strange, but I just loved looking at food. All the time. I would plan what I could eat and when. I feel like I've finally put food and eating into the proper perspective and it's opened up a lot of time for me.

you're responses to me are very interesting and have given me a new way of looking at things! Thanks guys!!

I should say that I am not 'starving' for food nor am I focusing on what I can't have. I just think it's interesting that I seem to be like TOTALLY revolving my life around this plan. I don't swear, so I won't use the "D" word!!! :p I think I can pretty much say I'm past the food thing........ but just freaked by the fact that I think so much about this! I will concentrate more on family and other things and see if that helps. I suppose it's a good thing that I think so much about it. At least I'll be less apt to cheat! ;)

You all are so wonderful and totally supportive!! I have made many friends in my life, and count you among the most valuable!

Karen, I just love your posts!! :) Somedays I have to remember to eat, so thankfully I am not thinking about this constantly, but I will admit that I do think about it alot! LOL I find it gets easier though as the days pass by...I am not constantly reminding myself that I can't have this or that anymore. I just know I can't have it now and don't think twice about it...:)

Hugs Karen...I am so proud of you! you are doing so great on your new way of eating!! :)

Guys youve changed my way of thinking too.
Im on a lowfat diet (not Atkins) and Im actually enjoying fruit. I just told someone the other day that I like fruit!
Yes, I am planning on this being a way of life. Right now it may be a diet but I am hoping to make it a way of life.
Thanks for your responses
(and yes I really had that dream last night)

It's funny - the more successful I am at losing weight - the more obsessed I become!! In years past when I say I'd lose I'd stick to it a couple of days and then slack off and just sort of plod along until I'd feel compelled to weigh myself, get scared, and start again. Now that I am consistently losing weight and I can realistically dream about reaching my goals by our WDW trip - my other greatest obsession aside from family!! I think about it all the time. If I lose more one week than another, what did I do? If I don't exercise enough, will my weigh in be okay? If I have just one cookie, will I want another?

When I get like this I come to the WISH - this is the best support group I've ever found and read the inspirations and the struggles and it reminds me that I need to take things one step and day at a time and if I lose one week and not another that it is still okay! Good luck!

Crazy.... That's what I'm talking about!!! It's ridicuolus!! Every little thing in my hand I think twice, or three times about eating!!
