Is there an offical pin trading book??

Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is an official pin trading book to check off which ones you have and to see which ones you want to collect? Where would I get it? thanks!

With hundreds of pins coming out every month, any book would be outdated as soon as it was printed. The closest things to help you would be either Tomart's book or the pinpics.com database.

I would go with Pin Pics because they are always updated with new pin releases all the time and it's easy because they have a section for pins you own, pins you want and pins you are trading. Besides that the Tomart pin guide only comes out every few months and will never be up to date.

I find the pin pics site very difficult to navigate. What am I doing wrong?

I think the book..even though it will get outdated, might be good since I'm wondering about past pins...I'm just beginning so it's not like I'll get all the current ones anyway. Thanks so much!

Pin Pics can be frustrating at 1st but it's easy once you get the hang of it. Just do a search for the pins you need to and when you are on the page of a specific pin here is what you do next. At the bottom where it says Trade Assistant you can click on Add to owns list, Add to wants list and Add to trades list. Once you done that the picture or listing of the pin will show up on your page.

Go to the bottom of the page, there is an empty box for you to type keywords about the pin. Try to be a bit specific about what the pin is or what it looks like. Entering Stitch will bring up every pin that has the word Stitch in the title or description. (All 2819 of them) Elvis Stitch brings up a much more manageable 74 results.


You have 3 choices about how to view the results - these make it easier to see the pin you are looking for.

Words only - click the symbol in the upper right for it looks like several lines.
Small picture & words - click the symbol in the upper right looks like a 3 squares with lines.
Pictures only (might be the easiest) - click the symbol in the upper right looks like a grid of 9 squares.

The database is constantly being updated -- even the Tomarts booklets are out of date by the time they are published... but they are nice to look at, flip through and make wishlists.

Sometimes the more current pins are easier to get a hold of than the old ones! The old ones often have already found homes!!
