Is There A Room In Your Home That Makes You "Uneasy"?

Inspired by the basement thread - our "basement" is actually just the lower level of our house, as it's a raised ranch. It's almost entirely finished.

It looks lovely, but I just feel weird down there, so I don't spend much time there. It's just a real uncomfortable feeling, like there's some kind of "presence" down there or something. :earboy2: :earseek:

Do you have any rooms that you avoid?

Just the unfinished part of our basement. I'm really afraid of spiders and other critters that might be lurking. I really want to clean it up a bit, but I won't do it by myself.

Not in my house but my mom laughs that at the ripe old age of 42, I still refuse to go down into HER basement unless I absolutely have to.

The sump pump in her house is under the stairs and the stairs have open risers. As kids, it always seemed like the sump pump would start up the minute you were halfway down the stairs, scaring the bejeebers out of my sister and me. We were always afraid that someone was going to reach through the risers and grab our legs. :teeth:

We have a newer home so there aren't any rooms that make me feel uneasy! Not yet anyway!

Now that I am in Texas, no basements, we have attics. Not only dangerous but hot and I wonder wth is lurking in there.

When we first moved to FL, the garage freaked me out. I had never lived in a house that had a garage accessible from the inside of the house. I can remember going out there the first few week and actually being scared I'd see some sort of weird Florida bug or animal. Now it's just another room.

On the vein of less tangible feelings, the house we had in MA had a very tiny room off the computer room. I used it for storage but I often wondered what the purpose of it was. It didn't give me bad vibes, it was more a comfortable feeling.

The bathroom because I have to clean it, the laundry room because I have to wash clothes, the kitchen because I have to cook. :teeth:

No, actually my house is AOK with me. I used to hate going into the cellar. It had a dirt floor and rock foundation - creepy as all get out. The furnace used to squeal when it turned on. DH has fixed it all up nicely and has installed about a billion fluorescent lights, and had the furnace replaced so it's not scary anymore.

I'm OK in the house I live in now. But, I grew up in a house with a basement, and right off the finished area there is a bomb shelter. That room always creeped me out! It has block walls and a cement floor, and is always damp feeling. We used to have sleepovers in the basement den and would always put a chair in front of the bomb shelter door.

My parents still own the house, and even now I will not open that door unless someone is there with me.

Our house is generally fine, we have the occasional really hard to explain "bang" that sounds like someone has dropped something heavy off of the roof and other noises within which we can never locate the source. :scared1: The previous owner had passed away on the front lawn about 6 months before we moved in though.....
At my parents' home, my two oldest sons(ages 16 and 19 years)and my niece(14 years) are terrified of the laundry room! My oldest swears he has seen a shape of a man in there!
They had never said a word about it to anyone until one time it came up in conversation and they all looked like they had seen a ghost and were totally shocked to find out there was someone else who was afraid of that room.
It used to be my grandpa's room and he passed away in it 20 years ago, maybe he just likes to check in on his family every once and awhile.

Sometimes going into my kid's bathroom will scare the crap out of me. I never know what I will find in there!

The portion of the upstairs hallway right in front of our bedroom. I'm always afraid to look out there--it just feels creepy. And as someone who doesn't believe in ghosts or the supernatural, I have no idea why I feel this way.

Nope, but I once didn't buy a house because I couldn't make it up the stairs. I would literally get about 1/2 way up and then freeze, unable to go further. Never did see the bedrooms, and got the heck outta dodge...

I feel uncomfortable in the garage at night. The garage door rattles a lot plus the entrance to the attic is in there. It's just creepy and dark at night.

My children are afraid of my favorite room! We have a panelled library off of the family room. It has a fireplace, built in bookshelves with a windowseat, and big comfy chairs.Because of the panelling, and it's location on the lot, it's "darker" than any other rooms, so my children (and their friends) are afraid to go in there. (Including the 21 yo) I don't spend much time in there in the warmer months, but do hang out there in winter. It's so cozy to sit in front of the fire on one of our rare cold days.

Not in my own house, because it's too new, but my friends have a hundred year old house in upstate New York, and they do not like to go in their basement. According to her, something is alive down there. She knows because when the door is opened they can hear something rustle out of sight. Something that sounds "bigger than a mouse". :earseek:

Also, when they moved in, they discovered they had no insulation, so they had to gut their entire place and install some. A strange animal skull fell out of the attic, as well as some vertebrae. Never figured out what it was but it had sharp long teeth.

Right after we moved in DS told me that people lived in the attic, including his "new mommy" :earseek:

Needless to say, I don't go in the attic at night :rotfl:

Oooooh yes.

Our loft. Massive chandelier, covered in cobwebs; bare, wooden floor; dusty old windows, a door (it used to be a hayloft) and stories from the previous owners about a ghost.

Then we have the basements...

 My own room - it's a fire hazard!!

And I have the nerve to yell at the kids when their room is a mess. Yup, Mother of the Year - that's me! :rotfl:
