Is There A Prize For Most Indecisive DISer? Updated 1/9

I forgot to mention in my last post that I love the tutu's. I am going to use your idea for when I take my nieces. My sister and I wanted to dress them up as princesses as much as possible, this is such a fast and yet adorable way to do it.

If you haven't gotten your tickets for MVMCP, I would suggest maybe not doing that, since they are going to be opening the Christmas shows during regular hours, why pay for something you can get for free, all you would really miss out on would be the free cookies and hot chocolate. Just a suggestion. Maybe you want the Christmas party atmosphere.

There is a great how-to post here on the Dis that covers the basics of making the tutus - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2048367

I'm thinking we're going to skip MVMCP. Since the holiday shows will be going on for our last full day at MK and we're not sure how the baby will do with later nights, I don't see the sense in spending the extra money. If it was just the big kids and I knew we could stay until the end, I'd do it just for the extra late night in the park, but with Katie we'd probably end up leaving earlier and it just wouldn't be worth the price.

I've been fine tuning the itinerary, and I swtiched around a few days to better match TGM recommendations. This eliminates the Epcot and DHS evening EMH, but I'm not sure how late we'll be able to keep going anyway. This leaves only MK for evening EMH, and that one I'll go to solo if the kids and DH aren't up for it, just because I love the MK at night!

Dec 13 - Was DHS, now AK:
Yak & Yeti lunch
Jiko dinner

Dec 17 - Was AK, now free:
Grand Floridian Cafe breakfast
DH golf
Captain's Grill dinner

Dec 18: Was free, now DHS:
Brown Derby lunch
Kouzzina dinner

Okay, so I'm trying to keep busy and distracted from some stuff that is going on IRL, so I've started working on day-by-day plans already. I'm sure a lot of this is going to change as we get closer, but it is something to do right now so here goes...

Arrival Day:

Early wakeup call for our 9am flight
Land at MCO around 11:30, ME to Poly
Swim and explore the resort
Hula lessons in the Grand Ceremonial House at 3:45
Torch lighting ceremony at 6pm
Monorail to MK or Contemporary to hop a boat to WL for dinner at Artist Point
Spend a little time looking around the Lodge and taking pics of the Christmas decor
Turn in early to get some sleep before our first park day

Up next - AK plans

Day Two - Animal Kingdom

Must Dos:
Safari
Kali River Rapids
Dinosaur
Everest

The Plan:
Rope drop
Everest (baby swap)
Dinosaur (baby swap)
Primeval Whirl (DH & DS)
Triceratops Spin (the girls & I)
Kali River
Maharajah Jungle Trek
Break for lunch at Yak & Yeti whenever our ADR time comes up, finish Asia after if necessary
Safari
Pagini Forest trails
Rafiki's Planet Watch
Tough to be a Bug (Fastpass if necessary)
Discovery Island trails
Festival of the Lion King (if it seems like Katie will be good)
Camp Minnie-Mickey character trails/Christmas trees

Dinner is at Jiko for after park closing, so we may as well stay until 5. If we have time left to kill, we'll hit some of the other character spots near the front of the park and at the gate.

6 weeks from right this minute I will be on a plane to MCO! I think I'm finally done with ADR changes, assuming no major schedule changes between now and then. Here is the current and hopefully final list.

We've added a Pirate's League appointment for DS11 and DD8 on our first MK day, thanks to the 50% off offer, but I'm still working on designs for that day. I know DD8 wants a pick & black tutu and corset, but I'm not sure my sewing skills are up for the corset. I'm thinking for DS11, a t-shirt I saw that says "Beatings will continue until morale improves" and a pair of jeans he's already got that have skull & crossbones patches because he's not one for costumes or anything that really stands out.

More changes, and I'm pouting a bit this time. Our boiler went out! We don't know yet if we'll be able to repair it or if we'll have to replace it, but at minimum we're looking at about 1K for a new pump and if we have to replace it we're looking at more like 6K!

We're not about to cancel or postpone this time since we have airfare and the room at the airport already paid and non-refundable. What we did do, to my disappointment, was change from the Poly to CBR. The kids are actually quite happy about the change - we booked a pirate room, and they just love the look of the room and the pirate water play area. And the $1100 savings will more than cover spending money for the week. I'm bummed because the Poly is my dream resort and a little worried about losing the convenience of the monorail for DD15mo's first trip, especially since she's had the week from you-know-where thanks to 4 budding teeth and some sort of mild mystery virus making the rounds in our house (I'm wondering if it might not be H1N1, but very mild because they've been vaccinated? The symptoms have been about right, but not severe). But she's always been good when we're out and about, even on long days, and she's at a fun, fearless stage so I'm probably overreacting.

On the bright side, the Poly is my mom's dream resort too and now I don't have to feel guilty about staying there without her...

The girls' Mickey jumpers are done! DD8 modeling hers (ignore the jeans; they'll be paired with pink leggings):

Congratulations! Is the house around here? This is such a great time to buy with the ridiculously low prices.

I cannot WAIT for FL sun. It doesn't even matter right now that we just put in a new fireplace and the house is toasty warm... Just the sound of the wind whipping around out there makes me shiver!

We're back, and I'm going to get a start on the trip report in this little lull before the holiday craziness! It was such a great trip, despite a few little hiccups and heavier crowds than I'm used to.

So without further ado, on to day one:

We left for the airport around 5am, much, much too early for me to be awake! It was so early that I forget my morning Mt Dew in the fridge. :headache:

Usually we get a room at the airport the night before our trips because we have a 2 hour drive just to get there, but DS had a school event the night before that he didn’t want to miss. Next time, we’ll just check into our hotel room late.

Getting up that early made for a hard start to the trip. The older kids fell back asleep in the car, but DD16mo was fussy and couldn’t seem to doze back off, and DH & I were both dragging. No lines at security, which was nice since we were packed entirely in our carry-ons, and the flight was pretty uneventful. The baby nursed through takeoff and finally fell asleep, but woke up every time I tried to put her down. Finally, I resigned myself to holding her and she slept peacefully until the man in front of us reclined his seat all the way, which of course bumped her. So for the last hour of the flight, I kept her entertained with snacks and her Mickey coloring pages with a reasonable degree of success.

Landing in Florida was fabulous. It was 17 degrees with a below-zero windchill when we left home, and 80-something when we landed! :cheer2: :cheer2: We arrived at 11:45 and it already felt like it had been a long day.

The line for Magical Express was unreal. Like way past the escalators that take you down to that level. It took us over 2 hours from getting off the plane to arriving at CBR to check-in. We must have been quite a sight, peeling our layers of winter clothes off as we stood in line in the very warm Orlando airport.

There was no line at check in, which was nice after waiting so long for the bus. CBR is really a beautiful resort, and I just loved the island music in the common areas. The tropical Christmas decor was fun too. I didn't get a lot of pics on our first day between juggling tired kids and all our luggage, but I had to get this one because Katie has an obsession with turtles, which she calls "dude" thanks to Crush. :rotfl:

Here is where Ken (DH) learned his lesson about listening to me, or failing that, listening to cast members: We got our room number, which was of course in Trinidad South because we had booked a pirate room, and the CM gave us directions to get around on the internal shuttle. Did we take the shuttle? Of course not! Ken was so happy to be out in the FL sunshine that he suggested walking and there was no changing his mind, especially once the kids heard the conversation. They would have happily run a marathon at that point to avoid sitting on yet another form of transportation. I, on the other hand, had the beginnings of a headache and wasn’t so enthusiastic, but I went along anyway to keep the kids happy.

That is a LONG walk, let me tell you. Quite beautiful, but the resort is massive and we were about as far from everything as can be. My first impression of the resort was very, very good. I immediately liked it better than Wilderness Lodge, where we stayed last, just on the strength of the wonderful, tropical feel and the heavenly scent of the flowers along the walkways.

The pool area made CBR a strong second on my mental list of favorite resorts, behind only the Beach Club. The kids were so excited by the main pool that they didn’t want to go check out the room. They were ready to change into their suits at the poolside bathroom and jump in!

2485318020051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Being the mean mom that I am, I insisted we drop off our bags before swimming, so we made the walk the rest of the way to the room. We had a ground floor water view room in building 38, which was a lovely, quiet location but way far from everything. The pirate décor was fabulous, especially the privacy curtain and the ‘keg’ that hid the refrigerator, but not worth the location. It was fine for this trip (well, it was all that was available for this trip, so the decision was easy!), but I wouldn’t book a pirate room again.

I took a few minutes to look around and unpack a little while the big kids got changed, and Ken ran to Old Port Royale to get a couple take-out meals since we hadn’t eaten since before boarding our 8:45 flight. Then Ken took Sebastian and Shanna down to the pool while I got Katie settled in for a short nap, called WeGoShop to schedule our delivery time, and rested. I had a pretty bad headache at this point, so I napped a little with Katie and didn’t head down to the pool until she woke up.

Everyone was so happy at the pool just enjoying the warm weather and it had already been a very long day, so I called and cancelled our ADR for Artist Point. We ended up ordering pizza instead, when the kids finally decided to get out of the pool around 10, which was a nice solution for a long day.

Day two: Dec 13

I don’t believe in wake up calls on vacation and even at Disney I only make exceptions for early character breakfasts, so we got going on our own time this morning. Traveling with Katie and staying in a single room, that really meant her time, which got us out the door about 8:30 most mornings.

Since I didn't get pictures of our fabulous room view with as tired as I was on day 1, I snapped a few this morning. The mist in the trees was really pretty, and every morning looked like this until the last couple days of the trip when the weather cooled off a bit.

We made it to Animal Kingdom just as they were finishing up the opening ceremony and starting to let people in the gates. We usually go pretty commando once we get going but seldom make rope drop, so this was the earliest I’ve ever gotten to one of the parks! This was my anti-commando trip, something I had to keep reminding myself as the day went on.

2159383780051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

The kids wanted to see the <ick> giant spiders that several CMs had in cages just inside the gate, so we lingered there for a little while before heading to Everest. On the way, we got sidetracked by Tough To Be A Bug, which I’d planned on doing later but the kids wanted to see now. So I bit my commando tongue and followed them along the path and into the Tree of Life.

2540008160051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

The big kids loved the show. Katie liked the butterfly curtain but lost interest shortly after the show started, and would have fallen asleep if not for the water-spray “acid” effect. She HATED that, but just buried her little face in my shoulder and ignored the rest of the show.

After TTBAB, we wandered over to Asia where the kids decided it was warm enough to ride Kali right away. This was nice – on our last trip it was so cool that they only braved it once – but at the same time the heat was a bit taxing. We’d come from sub-freezing weather at home to humid mid-80s at Disney, and Sebastian in particular (who doesn’t care for warm weather even for the short time we have it here at home) was having a bit of a tough time adjusting; his appetite and energy level were a little subdued all day.

2263581210051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

The line for Kali was only 5min, so we baby swapped so the kids could ride twice and then resumed our trek to Everest.

My daughter is the one in the pink top, looking to see what's to come.

Sebastian is the one left of center with his eyes closed.
2925649690051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

The line for Everest wasn’t bad, showing 30min at about 10:15, but we just grabbed FastPasses and continued on to Dinoland. Our FPs were for right around the same time as our lunch at Yak & Yeti, so we knew we’d be coming back through Asia anyway.

In Dinoland, we rode Primeval Whirl with a 15min wait; it was posted at 30min and we debated skipping it, but DS really wanted to ride so we got in line and found it to be much shorter than posted. That was the first time the kids got me to go on PW, and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I normally can’t stand spinning rides so I had avoided it, but it was a fun little coaster and didn’t spin enough to get to me. We didn’t bother with the baby swap on this one, because DH isn’t a big fan of it either. He took Katie on Triceratops Spin while we rode Primeval Whirl, then we all headed off to Dinosaur.

2839821140051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Dinosaur is a favorite of both Ken & I, so we picked up a baby swap pass here too. He took Sebastian and Shanna first, while Katie and I went to meet “dog-dog” (Pluto) and “Foofy”. Her eyes about popped out of her head when she saw them, and we only waited about 10 minutes for our turn (including a short “fire hydrant” break for the characters).

2900387990051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

We got back to the exit of Dinosaur just a few minutes ahead of Ken & the kids, and Sebastian decided he didn’t want to ride Dinosaur again so he ran around those benches outside the gift shop with Katie while I took Shanna back on the ride. By the time we were all done with Dinosaur, it was time to head back to Asia for lunch.

I love Animal Kingdom for all the details of decor, so I went a little photo-happy while DH stopped for a cigarette.

2097477020051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

We’d never tried Yak & Yeti before, and I had no idea how LOUD this place would be. It really bothered Katie, and was the start of a pattern that would continue all week – she was well behaved and cooperative at most meals, but the louder the restaurant, the more difficult it was to keep her settled. I worried it would be just the opposite and I’d have a hard time with keeping her sitting quietly at Jiko or Narcoosees, but Yak & Yeti was the worst all week – the volume was enough to keep her somewhat agitated, particularly while waiting for the first course and after we finished dessert. I don’t think we’ll be back there until she’s quite a bit older. The food was hit or miss, with some things excellent and others just okay, and the noise was really bad even by Disney standards.

After lunch, we headed off to use our Everest FastPasses. Sebastian didn’t want to ride, so I sat with him and Katie while Ken & Shanna used two of our FastPasses. And of course, I took more pictures.

2868882110051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

2223541190051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Shanna LOVED the ride, and I just couldn’t believe it. On our trip for her birthday in 2007, she was so excited about Space Mountain, had me measuring her everyday to see if she was big enough for Space Mountain, couldn’t wait to try Space Mountain. Then she went on it, and cried for a half hour afterwards because it was so scary! She’s grown up so much and gotten so much braver in two short years! So we used our baby swap pass and then used the two leftover FastPasses when she wanted to ride just once more.

2852014660051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

I was really impressed with Everest, and I can’t believe it took me so long to try it. On our last two trips, we skipped it just because neither of the kids wanted to ride. It is a really great coaster, much more thrilling than I expected.

Since we were still in Asia, the kids asked to hit Kali again before heading over to the safari, so we picked up another baby swap and Ken took the big kids through the standby line. It was posting a 5min wait at that point, so we figured we might as well.

Katie was getting a little fussy, so I took her for a walk through the Maharajah Jungle Trek trails where she fell asleep in her stroller.

2742846460051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

We got back to the bridge by the end of Kali just in time to see they were closing down the ride. I waited about 20 more minutes for Ken & the kids when they finally showed up from the other direction – they’d gotten stuck on the back side of the ride, right before the big drop, and got to get off behind the scenes via a path that let out near Everest. Katie was still sleeping, so we went down the jungle trek trails again at the big kids’ request then headed over towards Africa.

2107241010051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Sebastian and Shanna were both hot and a little crabby after being stuck on Kali, so I ran up to Tamu-tamu for a chocolate shake while they sat down with Ken & Katie on one of the little side trails on the path from Asia to Africa. Unfortunately, we were a little too near the African drums, which woke Katie up before she was ready. Her crankiness only lasted about 5 minutes, though, because on the way to the safari we ran into the start of the afternoon parade. Seeing the characters fixed everything! She was sitting on my shoulders swaying back and forth to the music through the whole parade.

2226894210051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

2278642310051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Right after the parade, we headed to the safari, which was posting a 20min standby wait. Again the sign over-estimated the actual wait time by about 10min, though we noticed the line got a lot longer behind us so I guess a lot of people came from the parade to the safari. We were near the fruit stand for the parade, so we were among the first in line when the parade ended. We’ve done the safari probably a dozen times, usually earlier in the day, but this was the most active we’ve ever seen the animals. The elephant, rhinos, and cattle were moving around, and at one point we even had to stop for some animals on the road.

Katie was really funny watching the animals, because in her mind any four-legged animal is a dog. So she’d point at the elephant and say “dog-dog”. We were cracking up, but I was having so much fun with her that I didn't take many pictures and most of those I did take got deleted because they ended up with a little pointing arm blocking the lens!

2020422270051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

At this point the kids were getting tired and a little hungry and it was almost 5 o’clock, so we decided to take Katie to see Mickey in his Christmas sweater at Camp Minnie-Mickey and call it a day.

2099834950051332420S500x500Q85.jpg

Other than the Lion King show, we’d done everything we’d wanted to for the day, and I knew the kids were in no mood to sit through a show. Oh well, there’s always next time! There was no line for Mickey, just two families in front of us, so we waited less than 5min to see him. Katie was funny, excited and shy at the same time, but not scared. She was really squirmy while Shanna was holding her for pictures, but then was chattering away at “me mouse” as we walked away, telling him bye-bye and see you soon.

We also ran into Baloo and Tirk on the way out, so Shanna had to get their autographs, but Katie was happy just to watch from her stroller since she didn’t recognize them.

We left the park about 5:15 and headed over to Animal Kingdom for our dinner reservation at Jiko.

They happily seated us a few minutes early and we enjoyed one of the best meals we had all week. Getting back to CBR was a little bit annoying because of the need to transfer at a park, but the ride from Epcot was short enough that it wasn’t too bad. Would have been easier if we’d stuck with the Poly, of course, but I’m glad I didn’t cancel our ADR over the transportation issue when we changed resorts. It was well worth the little bit of hassle.

When we got back to CBR Katie was about ready for bed, so Ken took the big kids to the pool while we called it a night. Unfortunately, Sebastian woke me in the middle of the night because he’d gotten sick. Let me tell you, the toilet part of the bathroom at CBR is MUCH too small for a grown woman to be helping a sick, 5’2” 11yo! Thankfully he did make it to the bathroom so there wasn’t really a mess to clean up, and we didn’t have a repeat performance. He was back asleep as soon as he got some clean jammies on, and he slept better than I did for the rest of the night, because I was listening to see if he got up again.
