Is there a Primer for Transferring Points?

I was wondering how to transfer points. We just passed ROFR and are still waiting to close so we have not spoke with Disney about the process of transferring points from another DVC owner to transfer to our account.

That said - what might be some information that we should know? We want to use them during 2009 since our UY (at BCVs) is 12/08 and we purchased a “stripped” resale with little points for that use year. I have read that we can only have one transfer a UY, which is okay, and I will make sure that we purchase the appropriate about of points for our plans.

Some questions I have:

How long does it take to get points into the account after we pay and the seller, the monies clear, they call Disney to have the points transferred to my account?

Does the DVC seller points have to be from BCV as well? If they are, do we get to plan if we get the transfer completed before our 11-month point or do we lose that privilege altogether? If they are tranferring from another resort or UY, what variables, if any, does this introduce?

If you have done a transfer and know of what works well (or lessons learned) for both the transferor and transferee, even if they are not similar to my senario, please share your thoughts.

Again, we have not closed so if there is a Disney web site or a Disboard thread that states some of the possible variables, we would be grateful if you could share the link.

Thanks!!!:thumbsup2

Disney does not allow members to buy/rent transfer points from another member. If you tell them that money has changed hands, they will not process the transaction. Transfered points retain their home resort and UY. If you need them at 11 months, you better plan accordingly.

Thanks, and I concur, "planning accordingly" is compulsory with being a DVC renter/owner and that is why a created the thread.

Okay, let me see if I understand this right… The DVC-Rent/Trade thread on the Disboards is for… hmm… what? Trades that do not include money? Your statement makes the DVC-Rent/Trade thread seem like it usurps the Disney DVC Rent/Trade policy and the Dis Moderators just let this happen? Specifically, in that thread there are sales requests and offers, which include prices per point. There is also a link to "sample rental contracts" declaring timelines for receiving finances, right? I am guessing that one or two of these negotiations might be a DVC owner to another DVC owner.

That said -- does your statement mean these monentary rentals transactions are done and NOT discussed or declared by either the DVC owner/tranferror or renter/DVC transferee to Disney? I would like to "planning accordingly" in more ways than just 11-months out so we are properly prepared.

With appreciation, :thumbsup2

Your statement makes the DVC-Rent/Trade thread seem like a sneaky thread that Disney Corporate and the Dis Moderators just let happen. In that thread I see a lot of dollar signs per point and sample rental contracts declaring timelines for receiving finances, right? One or two of these might be a DVC owner to a DVC owner, right? The way I see it is Disney wants to make all the money and they don't like competition. It's OK if you don't use your points and loose them while still paying dues or you can give your points away for free or make a reservation for a friend or relative. In the past they allowed unlimited renting. Now they realize that people are making money at it, so they added the commercial renter clause. In the future I am sure that they will continue to modify and change the policies and rules to reduce the members ability to make any money from their membership.

So to summarize:
Members can't be compensated for a point transfer.
Members are forbidden from displaying a pattern of rental activity that the Association Board, "Disney" deems commercial.
