Is There a New Resort in DVC's Future?

I toured SSR last month. I don't know how close to capacity the property is, but it certainly looks as though the construction looks close to being complete.
This got me to wondering; is there a new DVC resort in the works?

Hopefully not a new Resort, but a wing at CR, AK, GF or Poly would be fine by us.

No new resorts have been announced by Disney, though there are plenty of rumors on where the next one will be.

SSR probably has a few years until it sells out, so there's no rush on Disney's part to announce the next resort. The last thing they'd want to do is to slow down SSR sales by announcing a different upcoming resort.

According to our guide SSR is selling very well right now and it should be completely sold in 2007. There have been no word from Disney but there are strong rumors that it will be a monorail resort but it is probably at least one - two years out.

Those two things don't jive: I doubt they'd plan on running out of points to sell. So if they're going to sell-out SSR in 2007, they'd probably have their next property ready to sell by then. Rather, I suspect SSR isn't going to sell out in 2007....

According to our guide they start to pre-sell 6 months to one year in advance. If they are on schedule then when we would know about a new DVC resort sometime in 2007. If they are building at an existing resort they can start construction and not announce it until SSR is about sold out. No one knows for sure.

We have to wait and see, hopefully soon.

Whatever happened to the DVC resort scheduled to go up near the Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines Golf Courses? I remember seeing an artist's rendering of that resort several years ago and it never materialized. Updates to the Contemporary and other Monorail resorts must be a cheaper alternative.

What I was told recently is that Phase III at SSR will go on sale probably in Jan 2007. Phase III alone will add 4.3 million points to the inventory so I fear that we will have to wait a bit longer for a mono rail DVC to be announced.

still hoping for 2009 and at least the Cont.... really want the Polyn....

but I would happy settle on the Cont.

it would be a stop gap (like the VWL and BCV were) before they started on SSI - so yes the Eagle Pines DVC is still in the work. they need something big - the Cont or Polyn would not be.

That DVC resort (Eagle Pines Villas?) was announced but never got past the press release and artist renderings. That was before the idea of converting the Disney Institute grounds into SSR. My guess is that we won't see Eagle Pines Villas for many years, if ever.

Always fun to speculate though! :)

I just heard a RUMOR today that a DVC Resort is being planned for the Lake Buena Vista Stolport area creating another Magic Kingdom area DVC resort (in addition to VWL).

Interesting. I like the idea of a water way (wish AKL-DVC would do that)-otherwise not interested in another disconnected resort.

I took quite a few deep breaths before reponding to this statement. Well.......here goes: This is simply not true. Sales have slowed ever since they expanded the original plans for SSR. Sales got off to a big start before the resort was even built. Once it opened sales slowed. There are still over 4.8 million points to be sold at SSR. Your guide is really stretching things. I know the guide really shouldn't say "Sales are very poor" but saying what he or she said to you is simply being untruthful.

Now for new resorts all we can do is guess. I want to add on 1000 points soon so I have really been trying to pry some info. out of my guide. The guide is a trooper and won't even give a hint what is next. At this point I've decided to wait and see. Anyone who claims to have inside info on this is pulling our legs. My best guess is VCR to be announced next year.

By the way, my best guess about SSR is that it will be selling through 2009. Like Bicker said, if they were that close to being sold out we would have had an announcement.

So, where did you get your information? Please feel free to post a link to the information about SSR sales - especially since you are correcting the information provided by someone else.

Your opinion of what "very well" means and the guide's opinion may be completely different.

Very well to him may mean they are exceeding their sales goals regularly. The fact that sales slowed (if in fact they did) doesn't mean they aren't surpassing the original goals. If sales were not going "very well", the raising of the price likely would not have happened.

As we all know everything that we hear is just rumors. No one, even the sales reps, know for sure what the higher ups in DVC are thinking. The only facts that we do know is that DVC was a significant contributer to Disney results last quarter since they metioned it in their earning release. I know that they had a great incentive program gooing. Who knows they mabe planning another one. Believe me as a person in public accounting a public corporation would not mention something unless it was significant so they must be doing something right with SSR.

While I would agree that SSR is selling well, I don’t have a good feeling that it is close to selling out. I could be wrong.

Does anyone have an estimate on how long it took OKW to sell out? :listen:

As far as the next resort, I’ll also state/guess that the Contemporary is the next one to be announced, but if the legalities are clear, and given the increased marketing push there over the last few months, a DVC at Disneyland (Grand Californian?) would also make sense.

My guess is that the next one will be over closer to the MK somewhere than even VWL is.

Either a "redo" of part of the Contemporary, or maybe they have some land kicking around over there (that STOLport thing that was in that link) that they could build on.

It's possible that the next one could be the Eagles Pines thing, because that is sort of close to the MK, but I truly think they are going to want one with a direct connection, by walking or monorail, to the MK, and any of the golf courses would be a bus ride.

They seem to like to sort of "attach" the WDW DVC resorts to an "area" by foot or boat.

Of course, the AK area has no DVC near it yet, but I also don't think there's quite enough other "stuff" out there yet to warrant putting a DVC there...yet.

VWL has the MK...a big draw, and if some folks only have a day or two at WDW, they will probably go to the MK, since it is what a lot of people think of when they think of Disney...Cinderella's castle etc. BCV & BWV have Epcot and MGM, along with the Boardwalk area, as their draw. OKW & SSR have access to DTD as their draw. Lots to do in most of those areas...all the AK area has is the AK, and it's a tad bit of a secluded area out there, so I don't think the VAKL would be the next resort.
