Is there a limit?

I was just curious (read its late and they are about to draw the lottery numbers here in Texas )...

Is there a limit to the number of points that one family can own? I was just doing some figuring and with my lottery winnings from tonight I could purchase 25,000 points and stay in a Grand Villa year round!

Yeah, it would cost me about 2 million but what a great way to spend your first year as a multi-millionaire and you could always resell the points afterwards and get most if not all of your money back

It is funny that you ask since I was thinking the same thing when I felt I was going to win the $254 mil powerball, so I checked on that. There is a limit. You can only own 2000 points at one resort and then a total of 5000 points between resorts. With that said, I would think every family memeber that is over 18 could own up to the 5000 points, so I am sure there is a way to accomplish this dream.

Best of luck my TX friend! Right now, I'm in Buckeye Country just praying it gets warmer! It's 14, but feels like -1.

I'm sure you can buy as many contracts under as many family member's names as you have! If not, you can use mine!!! What I would give to be back at OKW. We were down there a week before Christmas and it was 80 every day and never rained. We couldn't have asked for better weather or a better time.

You couldn't stay in a single GV year round. There is some kind of Florida law Disney has to follow so you don't become a 'resident' at WDW. I think you'd have to move every few months or so.

Of course there are GV's at more than one resort, so moving might be fun.

I don't think it's Florida law, per se, that prevents this. It has to do with Disney's control of their quasi-governmental entity "The Reedy Creek Improvement District" (*). Right now the only legal residents (and voters) in the RCID are high level Disney employees. They get to to have full control in the governmental operations of the district. If you move in to VWL long enough to establish residency in the district, then that monoploy will be broken. This was the reason that Celebration was de-annexed when the community was created.

Exactly true. 5000 points gets you 25 weeks in a studio......1 week less than the number required for residency status.

I'm also not sure how the DVC breakdown works out...I know it's not 5000 points per "household", but I wonder how they would treat a married couple. Could you, feasibly, purchase 5000 points per person? I suppose the change iin reservation naming would be enough for Reedy Creek to deny residency status...but I'm not sure.

It's an interesting point of discussion though (well, at least in my mind....everyone else probably thinks it's boring... )

I think the limit is 30 days before you have to check out and re-check in. If you figure out the points limit, reservation problems, etc... you could just check in and out every 30 days.

I think I'd rather buy my own personal vacation condo and a limo and driver to shuttle me around WDW. Maybe even fractional ownership of a private jet.

Our boat driver at POR told us the max stay was six months, then you had to physically move off property for a night before you could check back in the next day. She told us many people do that and there was a woman she knew "living" at POFQ. Not even a DVC- how much would that run you per year. This same boat captain also told us the Sassagoula is full of Root Beer, so who knows....

Per the POS it's 2000 per person per resort and 5000 total. For a couple you could double that if you tried.

The perks has nothing to do with the FL legal requirements of residency. It's simply Disney's way of saying "we're not going to give you the perks we give to FL residents". Unrelated to the disney perks but remember you can't legally be a resident of two states at one time no matter how long you stay.
