Is there a limit to how many auctions you can win in a year on Skyauction??

I was thinking of using skyauction sometime for a two week trip. That would mean winning two auctions (each for a 7 night stay) back to back. Ofcourse I would have a back up plan for the second week incase I wouldn't get that week.

But I didn't know if two auctions were even possible. I thought I read somewhere that you couldn't get two in a 6 or 12 month period, but maybe I'm getting it confused with a timeshare presentation deal.

What do you think?

I believe the limit is on the timeshare presentation auctions only (the ones that are 3 days/2 nights for a few bucks and you ahve to do the presentation). Last year I won 2 RSG's in just a couple of weeks, and it was no problem.

Also, I see certain names that bid on all kinds of auctions and win. I think they are reselling them.

What I think is this:

On the RSG, when you submit your request for resort, there are slots where you put everyone's name who is going. I think they put the person's name they're selling to (probably on EBay!) there so they can check in. It's a guest certificate you receive, and it has all those names listed on it.

Don' know this for sure; that's just what I imagine they're doing. Either that, or someone is going on a lot of vacations!

what is the advantage of doing RSG instead of the regular auction?? I never see places like Vistana or the Hilton Grand VC on the RSG. Maybe it's just the dates I'm putting in, but places like Summer Bay, maybe Silver Lakes (which these two would be fine) and a whole lot of other places I don't think I would like to stay, come up. What the deal with that??

I guess I have a lot to learn yet about Skyauction. But it is addicting, isn't it??

We won 2 separate auctions (1 RSG, 1 for multiple Orlando resorts) last summer/fall and did back to back weeks at Orange Lake in Dec. 2003. I haven't seen Orange Lake come up on the RSG auctions for a long time. I agree, the RSG availability seems more limited than in the past...especially if you need a unit larger than a 1-bdrm. The better resorts (Vistana, HGVC, etc) bring more $$$ via a regular auction than they would through an RSG, in my opinion.

So if you win an auction that has a timeshare presentation attached to it. (For example I have seen some for Destin FL) Does that mean you have to go? Do you have to take your spouse and children? Thanks

I'm not sure if you were commenting on my post when you mentioned the timeshare presentations...but upon rereading my own post I realized I may not have clearly explained what I meant . I meant that the better resorts probably bring in more money for SkyAuction when posted as regular single resort auctions vs. Ready Set Go auctions (which typically go for about $260 or so, including fees). We didn't have to attend a timeshare presentation at Orange Lake, though I believe they did call and invite us...I think my husband just declined and that was the end of it.

There are auctions listed that do have timeshare presentations attached, for Fairfield Resorts, I believe.

Actually, you can transfer a SkyAuction stay for a $50 fee.

so if I wanted to give my week to a friend, I could change my name to theirs (contacting the resort or skyauction??) for $50??

Wow! That's good to know. In case I win a week sometime and something happens that we can't go. Hopefully that would never happen, though.

Yep. I won an auction and booked a week in November. Then we won a free cruise and thought we might have to go that same week. I e-mailed SkyAuction and asked if I could change our dates. They said we can't change dates but we could transfer the reservation to someone else for a $50 transfer fee.

Here is the actual quote from the confirmation e-mail I received after winning the auction.

5. You may transfer your hotel reservations only. To do so, notify SkyAuction.com with a new name at least 3 days prior to departure and pay a $50 room reservation change fee (for the room only) and return your exchange confirmation

Sorry I am just getting back to this thread.

It was asked what is the advantage of the RSG over a regular auction. One is the price! RSG's usually go for $40-$60 bid, including the $210 fees, that's $250-$270 for a week in a condo. The regular auctions usually go for a lot more than that (unless it's a last minute week w/ a specific check in date). Another advantage is it can be used for different places. You can win an auction, and it's good for a certain amount of time. You can keep checking availability in different cities and when something you're interested in pops up, you can book it. You're not locked into one specific place.

Disadvantages - the really fancy places in Orlando have not been coming up as available for a RSG as in the past. I haven't seen Orange Lake, Vistiana Resort (sp?) (or V V) or Hilton Grand Vacations come up in a long time on RSG. There is also a chance that if you win the auction ahead of time that there might not be availability anywhere you want to go when you want to go. Like if you're wanting Las Vegas, I have not seen any availibility for there in awhile.

So, it all comes down to what you're comfortable with, I guess. If you don't have to have the really fancy resort and aren't going in peak season, you might wnat to go w/ RSG. For my second one I had to "settle" for Silver Lake Resort. While it was nowhere near as nice as Orange Lake, it was pretty darn good for my cost of $261!!

This is pretty much my feeling. We won an RSG and are going in November to a 2-bed, 2-bath unit at Orbit One Villas. I've heard that it is an older property and not as fancy as some others, but we're paying $37.29/nite ($261/week). It would have to be pretty bad to not be worth the price.

where did you stay at silver lake....was it in the new section called silver points....we saw that come up on RSG for september and booked it ( heard it is a bit better than original silver lake offerings )

I did not stay in the new Silver Points. I was in the original part. I'm assuming that Silver Points is the new buildings that front Sherbeth Rd because I did not see another separate section and the entrance to both is the same one. I guess it would be nicer in that it's newer and ahs elevators. All other amenities are the same since there's just the one pool, etc.

Only things that I could complain about in the bldg I stayed in (bldg 600):

1) I wish I had been in the building that had the screened in porches as we had no outside deck/porch. Didn't have an elevator, either.

2) The washer/dryer was the stacking kind, so you can't wash as much as you can in a regular washer and drying takes a little longer.

3) W/ all that tile, some area rugs would have been nice. But hey, it's a lot easier for them to keep the place clean w/o having to clean/vacuum carpet/rugs.

4) Not crazy about all the mirrors. However, if I was cuter/skinnier, I probably wouldn't have minded seeing myself so much!

the one thing i disliked about westgate when we were originally getting into timeshares was all the MIRRORS.....just not us....not to say others would thnk the samw
