I know we have hair dressers (is that PC?) on here so I was wondereing if there is a certain brand that makes your hair really silky?

I have thick layered hair and I remeber back in the day using Silkience and really loved it. Now some 10 or so years later I have yet to find a great shampoo. Any ideas as to what is the best one out there?

Cathryn - if I use that do I use straightening balm/cream as well? I use Pantene products at the moment and usually trade off every once in a while to something else - then I use Dove Straightening cream when I blow dry. Sounds like if I try the Matrix I don't really need a cream for when I blow dry?

You can use the whole line if you want - but it wouldnt be necessary. I use only the shampoo & conditioner on occasion.

The shampoo on it's own, makes your hair really soft - Its good stuff. :thumbsup2

I haven't had a good hair day since Vidal Sassoon changed their shampoo/conditioner then stopped selling it 6 years ago.

I've tried every shampoo and conditioner under the sun, and I finally found one just this year that is fabulous!!

It is called Sap Moss from Aveda.
The shampoo is actually the more conditioning of the 2. I use the shampoo for dry hair and the conditioning detangler. The 2 together are WONDERFUL!!

Thanks OP for bringing this up... my hair sounds much like yours. But my problem isn't silk, it's any shampoo i've used lately doesn't make my hair smell clean and fresh. I just want my hair to smell good! Will try some of these suggestions.

FYI- there is a new shampoo and conditioner line out now. It is called "Silking". I used it the past 2 days and I can say it is great!! I bought it at CVS @ $5.99 a bottle. It is distributed by Vogue International, the bottles are very shiny, like holographic almost.

Colorvive - the conditioner is awesome. And the V05 cream straightner is great. Believe me, I used a TON of products the in 2005 because I got a really, really, really bad perm. By hair was as dry as a tumbleweed. And I have naturally thick and oily hair. Oh man, it was bad.

Honestly, Suave Awapuhi Shampoo and Conditioners work wonderful for me. Some of the more costly products may work too, but my hair has been so soft and silky smooth since I have started to use the "cheap" stuff.

I know this sounds weird, but the shampoo that makes my hair feel the softest is DH's Head and Shoulders. Odd, but true

I keep many different types of shampoo in our showers. I read years ago that they all produce a build-up if you continue to use the same one daily, but by keeping a variety, you don't get that. That's why Neutrogena shampoo was really popular at one time. It wasn't that it did anything great. They said to use it for X amount of time, then only use it once a week. It was that you were changing your daily shampoo that allowed Neutrogena to get rid of the build-up. It wasn't anything particularly great about the shampoo in general.

For conditioner however, once I found Herbal Essences, I had no need to try anything else. I'm not saying it's the best out there, but it's the best I've ever tried (and I tried many, though not all). I have no intentions of ever switching.

Paul Mitchell, "The Conditioner." It's a leave-in and works wonders!

Yes, Neutrogena Leave In Deep Conditioner.

Pantene Smooth & Sleek conditioner. I use the shampoo, too, but I can use any shampoo as long as I use this conditioner.

Suave is where it's at baby! I have used all of their "professional series" product. My favorite is the Suave "Sleek". It comes in a hard to miss bright orange bottle. It's comparable to Matrix. I have used many professional shampoo's for "sleek, smooth hair" and Suave does not lack in performance to the professionals. Plus, you save money!

Right now I am trying Suave's knock-off of John Frieda's products for brunettes. I give it a :thumbsup2
