We are arriving very early to Fort Wilderness on 8/5 and would like to quickly check in and then hop a bus from the Outpost to the Magic Kingdom. I do not want to hop on a bus from the Outpost to the boat dock and then wait for a boat if I don't have to. Can any one confirm that there is a bus to the Magic Kingdom at the Outpost bus depot? Thank you.

There is not a bus at the outpost to the MK.

The "Bus" to the MK from Fort Wilderness is actually an "Internal" bus (I believe the Yellow Line) which goes to the Settlement and THEN it goes to Wilderness Lodge. There you would have to transfer to another bus that goes to the MK. Typically, it is (usually) easier to get off at the Settlement and take the boat.

No, sorry!!

1) Yes, there is. *
2) The route is FW>WL>MK (+ one other stop).
3) Sometimes, they add a stop of FW>WL>GF>MK, or FW>WL>Poly>MK. to go through

* People so not always want to boat-ride through WL or Contemp.

But there is not a bus at the outpost that says magic kingdom on the front and goes straight there from the outpost. That is what the OP wanted to do. :car:

I thought the bus that went fw>wl>MK left from the settlement and you would still have to get on the internal bus at the outpost to get there. :confused3

The answer is: The boat is fastest route.

As far as the internal buses go
the purple line runs through the 2000-2800 campsite areas and passes a those sites’ sports areas with volleyball, basketball, and quiet pools. The orange line runs through the 600-700 and the 1000-1300 campsite areas. The yellow line runs through the 100-500 and 1400-1900 campsite areas. Both the orange and yellow lines will take you to the Meadows which includes: Chip and Dale’s Campfire Sing A Long, the Bike Barn where you can rent golf carts, bikes, canoes and kayaks, the Meadow recreation area which contains the Meadow swimming pool, snack bar, Daniel Boone’s Wilderness arcade, shuffleboards, and horseshoes, and the Meadow Trading Post.
There is also bus transportation to the Wilderness Lodge at the Settlement, and boat transportation to Wilderness Lodge, the Contemporary, and Magic Kingdom from the Settlement dock.

So, you still have to hop a bus to the settlement no matter what.

I think you are correct, G719. It's not a direct, sit-on-the-bus-all-the-way ride from the Outpost as the OP asked about.

From the Outpost bus stop (up near the FW checkin building), there is not a direct bus to the MK although there is to the other three Disney Parks.

Transportation to MK leaves from the Settlement end of the Fort (down by TE, HDDR, etc.) either by boat (direct after an internal bus ride through the Fort) or by bus (internal Fort bus, bus to WL (which may/may not involve a transfer), then a bus to MK (which may/may not involve another transfer)).

If it sounds wacko, that's because it is.

That's as simple as I can explain it.

No buses direct to MK.
You can get most 'any' place by bus if you're willing to change buses enough - o_O
Not exactly what any of us want to do.

My number one complaint about Fort Wilderness OP! We have 2 small kids and a double stroller, I was actually almost in tears with the bus situation on our last trip! But once you get where ever you are wanting to go...it's magical!

Why was it a big problem here? I have a stroller and can roll it on to the direct MK boat. Otherwise, it has to fold to get in any WDW bus. I really don't like the buses in general, but the transportation from the Fort has the boat advantage to the MK and is equal to all other resorts in terms of buses from the outpost. As for the internal buses, sometime a they've been great and others...so, yeah, I would agree it's an extra hoop to jump through.

Thank you all for your responses...its very helpful. I really do not like the internal buses and all of the stops :-( and was hoping to just hop a bus from the Outpost. I dont think a stop at WL is bad while enroute to MK..I think we will do that. :-)

We had what I'm sure was some fluke issues but it just left me aggravated. 1. Our first day, first ever bus experience we waited almost 40 min for a bus to HS at about 3:30 on a Sunday. This was after watching 4 epcot buses, 2 AK buses and 2 Disney Springs buses come by. Leaving HS that night, we had trouble finding where the bus stop for FW was (not on the main loop and this being our first ever bus experience, we wrongly assumed that where we were dropped off earlier was the same place to be picked up).
2. I completey dislike that there isn't a DIRECT boat running to MK early enough to get there for PPO ADRs. I'm aware of the contemporary boat, but it is still a pain with 2 small kids to be at the boat dock by 6:45, when I could drive from my campsite and not leave till 7:15 and still arrive in plenty of time. Considering we had a PPO BOG this came into play.
3. We had EMHs at MK till 1am. We had taken the boat that night to make transportation easier but we still had to fold the double stroller down bc there wasn't enough room to leave it open. But I guess they had underestimated the amount of people going to FW from MK and we had to wait through at least 2 boats to leave MK. It was after 2am before us and and about 40 other people got off the boat. We walked to a bus stop and waited and waited. No bus ever came and someone finally found the number to the front desk and they sent an internal bus to come get us. It was after 3am before we made it to the campsite. I think there should have been better communication if they are going to have late hours they need to be prepared! I have no idea what people did if they left MK any later than we did. We walked out at about 1:10, but the park was still full of people taking pictures and things.
4. We also had a 7am EMH on our last morning. I stopped at the front desk the night before to find out how to get to MK since we wanted to be there for rope drop (near the front for 7DMT) and they couldn't guarantee the contemporary boat would get us there early enough. the CM just looked at me like I was crazy and said to wait a few minutes. He went back to the back office and I could hear him talking with someone else. Neither of them knew what to suggest as they didn't think the internal buses would be running yet. He finally decided to right my name and site number down on the magical express sheet and told me that if I changed my mind to just call in the morning. It was already close to midnight coming from EPCOT and I wasn't for sure if my kids would be willing to get up early again! Lol At 5:30 the next morning, DH and I decided to let the kids sleep, so I called and the new CM acted as though she didn't know what I was talking about so I have no idea whether a bus would have been there to pick us up or not!
5. We had another experience where the driver asked everyone where we were headed. Everyone on the bus said FW. I don't remember which park we were leaving but he still had to make the 15ish min jog to WL first. I realize that was in case anyone there wasn't waiting to be picked up by after waiting a few min and no one boarding, he took us on to FW.

Our best luck with buses from the fort seemed to be when we were going to AK!

I'm sure some of these were fluke deals, but by the end of the week, the kids 5 and 3, would ask us to just drive instead of waiting on a bus! I've never stayed at another resort so I don't know what to compare it to. It didn't ruin our trip by any means but we did find it aggravating!

Honestly, we take the boat to MK (thankfully, they've never made us fold a stroller, even when we had the massive double Chariot on one trip!) or else we drive to the park. We do have a lot of Disney bus bad luck (doesn't matter where we've stayed, from value to deluxe!) and with the car parked on the site, it's much easier that way. Of course, we DO have a car parked on the site, so, we can say that - it's obviously different if you have an RV and don't tow a car, or fly in.

We'll have the golf cart this trip, and my kids are 5 and 7 so no stroller, so we may be persuaded to take the bus to Epcot the one day we go. We'll see.... Probably not though, honestly. :D

If you're staying on property, and chose to drive to a park, do you still have to pay parking fees? If so, what are they?

No, you get free parking. Be sure to have your pass visible.

the bus to the Lodge is the yellow internal bus with all the stops to the Settlement then on to the Lodge. you will then need to change buses at the Lodge for one to MK. my guess is it would be faster to take internal bus to settlement then the boat to MK

Just left FW and found out that 'unofficially' there is a direct bus from the Settlement area (stopping at WL) to the MK after 4PM. Did not check it out as we prefer going by boat - but that is what we were told!! Take it for what it's worth!! :)
