Is there a better day of the week to book flights?

Using Air Canada (in NL) so it is best choice for this trip unfortunately. I priced our Oct. flights the other day for around $4300 today (Sunday) they are almost $4700. We are a family of 5. I've been told to book during the week like a Tuesday to save? I was also told to wait until AUG. to book. I figured the flights would go up the closer we got to Oct though but the TA must know:) I have to pay for seat selection so anyway to keep the flight cost down is fab. Flying out of NL is gross cash wise!

some tips == (i worked for a company that sold a web based travel booking program )

do your price investigations from a different device than you do your booking (or at the very least, delete your internet cookies daily) - the sites keep track of your actions with these cookies and play with the prices they may go up just to encourage you too book now vs later.

Historically, Weds at 2 am ET is the best time to book --

Some airlines are not available on the comparison engines -- make sure you know ALL your options.

I just saw something on TV where they were giving tips for booking flights and they said the same thing - Tuesday is the best day of the week to book flights as they are the cheapest on that day - booking on weekends is the most expensive.

I'm on the West Coast of NL. West Jet stops for winter Oct. 24th and any flight before then has me over night in TO. AC is my only airline and they hold the flights high. Gotta love it when your flights cost the same as a whole dis package at a Value with dining plan and 7 day park tickets!

I have read the Tuesday trick as well! There is some good info over on the transportation board as far as when to book, etc. One thread was a guy who would check in at Midnight on Monday and have mutiple screens open to track the sales. It may be worth a try! :goodvibes. One thing that I usually do, is go to the actual airports website. There is usually a link that will list all the airlines flying out of that particular airport, then go directly to the carriers web site. TED IN HALIFAX on the atlantic canada thread seems to have a good handle on airfares, if you pm him, I'm sure he'd help! Good Luck ( I loathe AC) ;)

I just tried this and it worked. Right now the WestJet site has our YXU-MCO direct priced almost $100 less than Expedia and almost $400 less than Travelocity :scared1:

OP, I feel your pain. I live in Ontario and went to MUN, I'm pretty sure I paid more flying Toronto to St. John's during the year than I did on tuition.

Yes, you prob did:)

It's almost as bad in Saskatchewan but at least we have 4 airlines to choose from but the prices are crazy! So far Delta has the best price for us but they only give us an hour in Minneapolis to get through customs and catch our next flight. Makes me nervous but it's a $1000 more to fly United with better conection times! I don't even look at Air Canada because they are so expensive! West Jet is a bit more then United but have stupid flights and give you like 45 minutes at Toronto to get through customs and catch your flight...like that's going to happen! I think getting the flights are the worst part of the planning. I've been watching the flights since January and they have either stayed the same or gone up. I had hoped that they would go down some after Easter but so far that has not been the case. Going to hold off for a few more weeks and then just book...Delta at this point...and hope for the best. :faint:
I haven't found that any of the tricks work and if your more or less stuck with Air Canada I guess you'll just have to take the plung at some point...I don't know how that air line stays in business as they are so expensive.

Good :scared1: Lord thats expensive for flights!!

We are lucky to live next to the US Border and can take advantage of just popping over there and flying out of the US. For us paying more then $300 per person round trip is expensive! I guess I shouldn't complain about the prices i find anymore considering what you pay out that way!!

Tuesday are the best day. That is the day most companies release their new promotions.

I'm not sure if its feasible or worth the hassle..but price out
-flight to Toronto or Hamilton , Ontario.
-rent a car then drive the 1.5 hours to Buffalo
and fly out on Southwest out of Buffalo super cheap! Could save a good chunk of money! We usually pay $170-$225 per person round trip , direct out of Buffalo.
