Is the ride water sanitized?

I know that may seem like a weird question, but I'm just wonder if or how Disney sanitizes the water to prevent the spread of illnesses? :crazy2:

I've searched the Internet for any information on this and decided to turn to the trusty DIS board for an answer!

Thanks!!!

Their water is treated with chlorine. They're not running their own treatment facilities, but it's clean as they can get it.

I wouldn't reccomend drinking it, however! :)

Hmmmmm, I remember on our TTTK tour we saw how the water was recycled for SM, but I don't recall what they actually do to it.

The chlorine smell is noticeable.

ACTUALLY - my bad, I think it may be bromine. Same principle as chlorine, just not as strong to reduce the chlorine smell somewhat, and to prevent bleaching the guests clothes! :) That's what they told us on the KTTK tour. :)

I've swallowed a good amount via Splash Mountain and I turned out fine :rotfl2:

Other than the water in Splash or Kali I would not touch any water in DW. Anytime a cast member ends up in the water they are treated as if they have the plague and are immediately sent for medical treatment. I'm sure some of the more recent CM's will be able to give more detail though.

Well, from the looks of the BROWN jungle cruise water I would not want to go anywhere near it. YUCK.:crazy2:

Anyone know what makes it so brown?

I presume they treat the water on rides like Splash and POC with chlorine to keep the ride clean. I wouldn't be jumping in the lake water in Jungle cruise though. :)

It's died that color on purpose... wouldn't look much like a jungle if you could see the 3 feet to the bottom of the crystal clear river ;)

They actually dye the water that color on purpose. That way you won't see the tracks underneath ;)

I thought the water on Jungle Cruise was water from the canals around the park.

Jungle Cruise is on a track?!?!?! I didn't really "drive" it when I was a kid?!?!:rotfl2:

Sorry to hijack the thread, just had to post that! :rotfl:

I am sure that they would have to sanitize Splash Mountain, etc, but ya great question!!!!!

ok, i hate to burst people's sanitary bubble, but all the water in MK is the SAME WATER. (thanks KTTK tour!)

it is simply moved from place to place. SO Jungle Cruise, Splash, POTC, the lagoon in front of the castle, and Small World are all the same.

the water is dyed on jungle cruise so you cannot see the animatronics "insides." for example, the hippo has no rear end.

and yes if you end up in the water you have to get a tetnus shot (makes sense since there is a lot of metal submerged in water.... there may be rust)

so the water is all the same. no one yet has died from exposure to small world (at least not the water :rotfl2: ) so i am pretty sure we are safe.

On the KTTK tour we went backstage behind Splash Mountain and got to see the huge water pit that they run the water through. They do use bromine rather than chlorine for the reasons listed above. It's a multi stage process where they sand filter the water then treat it then return it to the ride. Interestingly enough the water pit is huge! The water level in it drops tremendously when the ride is operational but when they shut down at night or for any other reason all the water returns to the pit and fills it to near capacity. While the ride is operating the water drops almost 25 feet. We were told that if the ride shuts down for any reason and the water starts falling out of the ride building for any reason they have to be able to restart in 10 minutes, if not they have to walk the ride and take all the guests off. Thats because if the water all falls out of the ride it takes the pumps a while to relift all the water to everywhere its needed. The water on the Jungle Cruise is died to match your idea of a jungle river plus to make it so you cant see the tracks and the concrete bottom. As far as the lakes around the property they post no swimming signs because of the heat and swamp like areas on property they develop a lot of bacteria that can be very harmful to humans.

The Jungle Cruise, the Rivers Of America, the moat on the Castle are all the same but the rides waters (POTC, Splash Mountain, and IASW) are all self contained and filtered. Think about it on IASW you can see the coins on the bottom so there is no way thats the same water as in the moat. Actually the Rivers of America that surrounds Tom Sawyers Island is connected out to Bay Lake by a canal. We were shown a map on our tour that showed how they took the River boat from ROA through a canal and a set of locks on the canal, out to Bay Lake and around to the maintainence facility for refurbishment. Ever notive how the Monorail tracks go up pretty high between the Grand Floridian and the MK. Why? It's so they can get the Riverboat under it an to the maintainence facility which is actually behind the MK as your looking at the front gate. You can see the whole setup at Google earth.

The natural dark coloration in the lake water in Florida is due to tannins from the trees. No need to dye the lake water. That's one reason I don't like the lakes in Florida. I want to SEE what's lurking in there! About 10 years ago, when we had our major drought, they pulled a 1940's vintage airplane out of our neighborhood lake. The natural coloration of the water had kept it hidden until the water level went down enough to expose it.

This thread has everything I love about DISboards: information and laughs!

I have always wondered this questions myself! My brother had a running joke the last time we were at WDW. Everytime we were on a ride with water, he'd say, "Drink it. Drink it." Gross, and disturbingly funny.
