Just looking for yes/no...based on the announcement made on the news last night that it is over ( but will take months to see noticable changes).
It is NOT over in ours, we are surviving and have adapted in ways we never thought about before.
Here's hoping for more *yes* :thumbsup2 than *no* :sad1:

All is well in our house....we never had much of an issue though. Praying it gets better quickly for those who have had a rough go of it.

Fortunatly, it hasn't affected us (yet...it still could of course, and don't think I don't know it!), we haven't had to change a thing. So I can't answer "yes" or "no", as it's neither.

Jobs always lag in recoveries, so I'm sure it will be awhile before many people feel the effects. Also, I'm sure many people who have found work had to take pay cuts, so just getting a job isn't always going to put you back at where you were pre-recession.

Since DH was RIFed last month (after 20 years, here's your hat, what's your hurry), I can easily say that it is not over by a long shot. He is working very hard to find a new job but it is VERY tight in the job market and we are trying to be creative and look in new industries (outside of IT).

I am just have the fear that since this "announcement" was made, places that have been trying to accomodate will now raise their prices again, such as grocery stores. We have been able to adapt partly based on what they world has done to help...if things go back, it will be very rough.

No not yet.But it looks like it will start to get better soon.
My husband went from TONS of overtime to none in 2 months. Now it looks like it is picking up again. So I think we will be out of it soon.I really wish it was over for everybody!! My neighbors job (heating and A/c) just laid off 30 people yesterday.

Not over here. DH was laid off for a long time and he took a huge pay cut when he went back to work. I went back to work, but between both of us, we still are making less than he was before. I hope it gets better soon.

Didn't think about that. You are right though, something to think about. Lets hope not, at least not until things have improved for many.

since there wasn't a h e double hockey sticks no...I went with a regular no. After 10 months of unemployment the only reason I have internet is it's the best way to network and find jobs to apply for.

Even when I do find a position it's going to take a long time before it will be all right in my house.

I'm not sure how to answer. DBF lost his job in October. However, in January I got a 10% annual raise. Then in July I got promoted and an additional 10% raise. We have money for all of our needs and most of our wants. We are not struggling; but we are not swimming in money either.

I am NOT in a recession, but I guess DBF is so our votes would cancel each other out. :confused3

It's a no for us too. I'm the major breadwinner and my employment and compensation package have not changed. My husband owns his own business and his income is down. He told me to expect 4th quarter 2009 to be his worst quarter in 25 years.

We are not struggling but have adjusted our extra-curricular lifestyle to match the reduction in our disposable income. We intend to stay on this new path even after my husband's company starts seeing improvement.

We were never in one - our jobs remained stable throughout this time - well so far they have. Both of our companies are offering overtime and have been consistently so I guess they are doing well and I received a generous raise this year.

Last year the raising gas prices hurt us but just had to cut back on random trips in the car.

Seeing as DH just came home this morning with a letter from his employer asking for anyone who would like to take a voluntary permanent layoff, to get with HR by 9/21, I would have to say NO!!!!!!.

The letter outlines what all the company is willing to do for you, if you choose to voluntarily take a permanent layoff. You would get paid any of your unused vacation time, earned no fault day pay and any pay incentive for being on time. They also stated that they will pay for the Cobra insurance for the rest of 2009. Then in 2010, they would pay for 65% of the Cobra insurance, leaving you to cover the other 35%.

During the meeting, it was asked, how many is the company looking to permanently layoff, either by a voluntary choice or forced permanent layoff. They don't know yet. Asked if the company got to or close to the number of permanent layoff numbers, would the short term layoffs would go away. The HR rep didn't know if they would or not. The only adament answer the company would give, if they have to go to forced permanent layoffs, they will not be done based on the time you have with the company. It will be based on each persons ability to run all the different equipment that they use to run production. Which for some of those that have been there for a long time is not a good thing. They have thought themselves to good to do some of the messier jobs. There is one guy that has been there for 20+ years and he can only run part of 1 line.

So now DH and I have to figure out, where does he stand within the company. He can run all but 2 things - the tow motors and this one section of one of the lines. Everything else he has done at one time or another in his 13+ years with the company. He personally knows of at least 32 people who can only run/work on 2 or 3 of the lines. He is one of 10 people on 3rd shift, who gets to come in early on Sundays to restart the lines, because he knows what needs to be done and can do it without a supervisor there making sure its being done.

So for us....NO, it's not over by a long shot.

And.....what a great time to talk about a permanent layoff. The company is holding it Family Fun Fest this weekend. Makes me what to go be around a bunch of people who are worried about their job futures, as the company spends about 20grand on a fun time.

Not really, in fact the worst just passed. DH had to lay off most of his staff two weeks ago and then learned that he too was slated to be laid off. Fortunately another division stepped in and he moved there. However, that may be temporary. They don't have a solid position for him but like him as a manager and are trying to work something out.

My uncle is currently losing his business. He laid nearly everyone off last week but has kept 3 people on to do collections until they can proceed through bankruptcy.

This is the worst I've felt throughout the whole thing.

We have actually not been greatly affected by the recession up to this point, but I expect to lose my job in the next couple of months (non-recession related), and the job market at this point is not looking very hopeful.

We have saved for this possibility, so it won't be devastating to us, but it will still hurt if I don't find something else right away.

DH and I have actually been really, really lucky. DH was told March 2008 he would be laid off in June 2008, and was able to find a job that started right after the old job finished. He knew that layoff was possible before March but didn't expect it to happen until Sept/Oct 2008. At the time, it was horrible, and DH was really upset. But someone must have been looking out for us, because if he hadn't have been laid off until Sept/Oct he would have had whole lot more competition for jobs. Who knows how long it would have taken to find something. The new job has been the best job DH has ever had.

But even though the recession hasn't been affecting us negatively, I don't think it's over. I'm worried about friends & family. So much spending power has been wiped out, credit evaporated, I don't think many of the lost jobs are coming back, so it is going to be a long tough grind for many.

I said no but we really were not changed by it, knock on wood. Having been laid off two times in my life, I was not looking forward to another time.

We were the lucky ones this time, but that is a misnomer. We've been laid off six times in the past 12 years between us. I think maybe we paid dues in life or something to not be effected at this time and I am SO thankful! I stepped up my charity work this past year thinking it would help someone.

The only change we made money-wise was to stop going out for lunch and to cut out eating out one night a week (which left me with two. I don't cook very well.)

NO we are still hurting in our neck of the woods....my dh job is going down the crapper quickly, my dd can't find a job anywhere, groceries are sky high. :headache: I could go on and on but you just really wanted yes/no answer.
