Is the Poly worth the extra cost? booked in POR now.

We've stayed at POR and Poly and have a hard time justifying the expense for deluxe resorts. To me, the true benefit is transportation options, but I'm willing to wait a few minutes for a bus to save a grand. Plus, IMO, Poly could use a refurb before I'd stay there again (if I ever do). Also wanted to mention that you should decide quick - Thanksgiving week is usually a sell out so I'd imagine the longer you wait, the less room options you'll have available.

Another vote for no on the added expense, especially with the construction.

We would love to stay there, we did when I was a child. When comparing the cost to POR or POFQ, it just makes no sense to me. I know the benefits and having more space is nice, but not 3X the cost nice in my opinion.

Good luck deciding. If $$ were not an issue, I would love to stay there.

I haven't stayed at The Poly (well, I did when I was 3 years old) but did use the Monorail a few times to go there from MK to eat. Honestly, I didn't find the monorail any more convenient than riding a bus. And, the monorail doesn't go to all 4 parks so to me it isn't a huge perk.

$1000 is a LOT of money, even when divided between families. I personally wouldn't upgrade for that much of a difference.

I really wanted to stay at The Poly for our trip next year but it would cost so much more than a DVC studio at AKL so I decided against it. I can't justify the price when we're not going to be spending much time at the resort.

If you're happy at POR, just stay there. You know what to expect and know you won't be disappointed. You can choose to just save the extra money you would have spent on The Poly, or you can book special meals that you might not otherwise do...character meals, signature meals, etc.

I have stayed at the Poly several times, but went to the BC this year because my DH wanted to try something different. It was a nice resort, but I really missed being on the monorail and seeing MK. I ended up getting food poisoning (yes, from eating DUCK at the Brown Derby), and spent most of my vacation in the room. What I learned from the experience was that I don't feel like I am at WDW unless I can see the fireworks over the castle, which I could have done while still sick at the Poly. I can't wait to get back there in June. Love the relaxing feel, the fireworks from the room (yes, I love TPV), being able to buy my kids Mickey waffles for breakfast (had to order them from room service to get them at BC), relaxing on the beach, watching my DH build the biggest Dole Whip ever, and the monorail trip to the MK and Chef Mickey's. I think my kids think the monorail is a fun ride! So yes, it is worth it to us. I would rather go less often and experience my favorite resort. It is really about what you enjoy about your WDW trips. For me, it is enjoying being in the heart of WDW, while relaxing at the same time.:thumbsup2

Thank you all for your reviews! They were very helpful and whoever wrote the duck review - it was hilarious! I loved it. I won't be showing that one to my 11 year old son, as he loves ducks and would happily swim in the pool with them everyday. We are going to stay at the POR. We actually don't mind the walking involved with the POR. (We used to live on a 200 acre farm.) I think the thought of construction going on really swayed us from staying at the POLY. We visit there every trip to eat at 'Ohana or the Kona Cafe, so we will just keep being visitors for a while and enjoy the lovely scenery without spending that extra money to get it! Thanks again, everyone!
