Is the Poly really insane on New Years Eve?

I have another thread running about comparing the rate at the Poly and Doplphin for New Years Eve. Several posters mentioned that the Poly is insane with people then, especially people on the Poly beach from other resorts etc. Anyone have any knowledge about this? It sounds like it would ruin the night if this is true especially if you have aroom on a lower floor facing the beach. One poster said these people back right up to your patio?????? Any information would be greatly appreciated.:( :( :(

We were there for NYE 1999/2000. I don't know if security was extra strict that year but it was very evident. We went to HoopdeeDoo and the walkway to the TTC was blocked and security was manning it to make sure people didn't crash the Polynesian. I'm sure that people without PSs would not be allowed to park there that day....they do this even on July 4 the last couple of years. Getting on the resort monorail after taking the bus back to the TTC, we were questionned as to where we were going by a suit type and we showed our room key.

We walked out to the beach shortly before midnight. Although there were many people there, it was not overly crowded at all. I imagine many people who book there do so with watching the fireworks. But there are three lbeaches. Plenty of room to set down our blankets and enjoy welcoming the new millenium (I know the no zero argument:rolleyes: ) at WDW.

We made a wonderful memory and I hope you do too.::yes::

We were just there on the 4th and judging from the crowds, they obviously weren't keeping people out. They piled off the monorail, MK boat and walked over from TTC. We saw a lot of people dragging in those large coolers on wheels. Of course they helped themselves to the pool, towels, hammocks and chairs.

Bojangles, the part of my response you quoted was about parking on the 4th....not monorail, etc.. on that date.

Have you stayed there on NYE and had a similar experience? We've had only one NYE stay and it was magical.

We last stayed at the Polynesian this October and parking was the easiest (for those staying at the Polynesian that is) that I've seen for many, many years.

Yes, we have stayed there on NYE. The problems with non-resort people using the pool weren't as bad since it was cooler than the 4th. However, the beaches were packed. We were never asked for an ID on the monorail, or returning from TTC at any time. Over the past couple of years, crowds for the holiday fireworks there have gotten out of hand, IMHO. Every guidebook and unofficial website out there recomends watching them from the Polynesian beach.

That's too bad, Bojangles. Maybe our experience was better since it was 1999/2000 NYE. Perhaps security was tighter. What years were your experiences?

And as I said, this October parking was a breeze. Perhaps things are tightening up. We stayed there in July and March of this year too and this was a marked change.

We were at Epcot 1999-2000 New Year's. We've been to WDW several times at New Year's and I've never seen as busy as it was that day.

We were at the Poly also on July 4th this year. We didn't want to be in the MK so we ate at the Kona Cafe and watched the fireworks from the beach. There were a lot of people on the beach but it wasn't bad.

We were there on the July 4th week and on that night wow was it crowded. No they were not keeping anyone out. The GCH to the beach was packed everywhere!!!!!So I would think New Years eve would be the same.
