Is the phrase "good question" overused?

Is it just me or do other people seem to hear this ALL the time? It's like some seminar on public speaking told its attendees, "this phrase will validate the questioner and let them know they are very intelligent for asking SUCH a wonderful question." Ugh. Overused to the max, in my opinion.

And please don't reply, "thats a Great Question"!!!

Well it is common and I suppose it could be dismissive if it's left hanging in the air but, if it's followed up by genuine interest then overused or not it's :thumbsup2 If said with sincerity it's like I love you or Thank you, no matter how many times I hear it I still like it.

hmmm, good question:rotfl:

I think it's just one of those phrases used to buy some time while you collect your thoughts and try to formulate an intelligent answer

Have you been speaking with my management team?

You ask...they don't know, say good question we will get back with you

I have found that usually when someone says "Good question" that it's a lot better than the answer you're going to get.

My thoughts exactly!

It's a stalling tactic, except when they actually really disagree with the person but the question will enable them to launch into a pre-prepared talking point.
