in the theme parks? I am contemplating getting one to use on our next trip with our 2.5 year old daughter. Is it worth the price? Briefly, how does it work exactly? How does it get the updates on times, etc?

It was not something that appealed to us on our trip simply because we didn't want to lug it around. I know you can attatch it, but still... I'm really not sure how it works, but just reading the info on the box it says it offers info on character sightings, parade times, and other general info. Maybe your 2 year old would like it. If we had children with us, it might have been an option we would have considered.

have you already received the pal mickey from your seller? Were you happy with it? I'm tempted to purchase one as well before we go but I can only find availability through ebay.

We bought one and after just one day of lugging it around, then trying to hear what he said (holding it close to your ear) while trying to walk around tons of people, then being the Pal Mickey burro was enough for us.

Too much $$, too much of a pain. I vote NO.

We bought one at the park during our March 05 trip and enjoyed him. DS (4 at the time) really liked listening to him. He gets RF signals in each park that give info about where characters are, if there are particularly short waits at attractions and so forth. He giggles and wiggles when he's got something to say at the park, then you press his hand or his tummy and he talks to you. I understand 2.0 (the new 50th DL anniversary one) is a little louder, but we did just fine with 1.0.

Out of the parks, he just tells jokes and plays a couple of games since (obviously) there aren't any Disney RF signals reaching him. It's a novelty.

You can upgrade a 1.0 in the park (search forums for Pal Mickey update--there's a thread with info on which stores do it), so I'd purchase one on eBay rather than buy a new one, then just upgrade him at the park.

Lugging him about didn't bother us much. In March, they were already supplying a lanyard in addition to his belt clip (which was pulling my shorts off LOL!). We convinced DS to wear Mickey on the lanyard so lugging it around wasn't my problem, anyway! :rotfl:

Just my two cents. . .

From reading this tiny thread you DO NOT have a good cross-section of info about Pal Mickey and those who own him.

Use the SEARCH near the top of the page and type in "Pal Mickey" to read from the THOUSANDS of posts from years of responses to this same question.

You'll get a "slightly different" perspective.

A 2.5 year old might be too young to appreciate Pal Mickey. She might want to snuggle him sometimes but would not "get" his jokes or information. You would probably end up carrying him around most of the time. However, she may really enjoy Pal Mickey when she is a little older. My DD7 has brought him along for 3 trips now, and she just loves him. She carries him all the time and really enjoys his little announcements.

I'm 27...we got a pal mickey the last time we were down. I'll admit I felt a bit cheesy, but hey, no one is cheesy in the World! I love having him! If you've been a few times, it just seems to add a whole other deminsion to the experience. He tells little facts around each park, sings songs, and give out good ride time and parade reminders. It's fun to hear what Mickey has to say as you're strolling around taking in the sights. He even talks during some rides, which is hilarious...at one point in the Haunted Mansion he says he's scared. It's great!!!

We got our's Version #1 after the new version came out for a great deal from a Disney Outlet. It will not work with the 4 new attractions, but is great otherwise. My 6 yr old son loved it on the last trip. The jokes are corny, but it amuses him and us at times.

We'll take him back this Summer as well.
