We are leaving in 25 days and trying to decide whether to take our DS(4) on the new POTC ride. We rode the classic ride 2 yrs. ago and he liked it. He is now very into pirates, but we have not taken him to the new POTC movie. My DH and I saw it and do not think it is appropriate for him to see---Davy Jones and his creatures are SCARY LOOKING! I can just imagine the nightmares a little one could have!! I think I saw a promotional thing when the new ride was opening, and if I remember correctly, a very large image of Davy Jones is projected onto the wall or something at some point during the ride. Those of you that have ridden the new ride, please offer any input on this. Thanks!

Depends on their demeanor. My DD 22 months went on it Sunday and she wasn't too scared. After she got off the ride she was laughing so it all depends on the child. If they aren't scared of loud noises, the dark and/or other people screaming (on the small drop towards the beginning of the ride) then they should be ok.

There really isn't too much that has changed for the exception of having Captain Jack appear a few times during the ride. The ride is basically the same. pirate:

I think he'll be fine. At the very beginning is a huge image of a pirate, but I don't know if he is Davy Jones or not as I'm not up on the movies. But he is definitely ugly, with what looks like snakes all over his face, but what might just be his filthy beard. It's just his face, and your boat rides right thru it. Other than that the ride is essentially unchanged, as the previous poster said. There are dead pirates on the beach and one stabbed into a tree in the beginning, but those may have always been there....not sure. There is no more warning about 'rough waters ahead' before the hill...you just go down it unaware.

Just don't ride it with a group of younger(tweens&teens) kids, I don't mean the ones that are with their parents, I mean the group who are unsupervised. Usually a group of girls but can also be boys. They tend to scream just to hear them selves scream. They think its cool, but it scares the young children on the rides :furious: . Vey annouying(sp). Other than that its not all that much diffrent than it was before, just has Jack in it now.

Oh man, I agree with the previous poster about the screaming teens, especially on the haunted mansion.

Anyway, back to your question, the only part of the revised attraction that features Davey Jones is the projection everyone is talking about. The boat rides through it and it is just a mist you don't even feel.

My four year old went on it and loved it. I don't think it is any scarier than the previous version although I was skeptical at first too.

My DD4 loved it and rode it twice. DD8 did not like it at all but loved the store at the end where you can try on all the hats.

The image is of Davy Jones, but it's a cool special effect, the way the image is projected. The rest of the ride is essentially the same, so if he's seen it before, the only additions are 2 characters from the movie (I don't want to give anything away).
By the way, my husband and I saw the movie without our 11-and 9-year old kids, and I'm glad we did. They are NOT watching that scary movie! The first one was sooo much better, with a great story, and it was eerie but not scary!

Anyway, just watch for the added characters, and don't worry. :)

There is really only one thing that might scare him...the part where Davey Jones is projected on the mist. It's pretty cool for us adults but might scare the jibbits out of a little one! :sad2: Other then that, it's pretty much the same as it was before with a few extras that he probably won't even notice.
It's up to you to decide....Good Luck and have fun! YO HO! pirate: pirate: pirate: Helen

The previous poster is right except for the Davy Jones at the beginning if you had not seen the movies you wouldn't notice any changes other than being able to hear better with the new acoustics. If you think the image of Davy Jones will scare him advise him to shut his eyes for a moment when it looks like you are getting ready to go under a waterfall and he weill miss it.
