My wife and I were staying at OKW in December and noticed that the new section of SSR (including a new themed pool) was almost finished. Next week we are staying at SSR, and I am wondering if this new section is now finished.

Any input is appreciated.

I have seen a few people post that they have stayed in the first building in that section. I think the posts were for visits this month.

We stayed in a new Grandstand building a few weeks ago. They had one open. It looked like Disney was close to opening a second building while we were there. They were moving high chairs, etc., in.

I just got home today, stayed at OKW but we took a drive over to check out the grandstand section and the new Animal Kingdom villas. There was one building open at the Grandstand section. The pool was open as well. The new play area looks like great fun! There were several "Tweens" having the time of their life.. They were playing with horse shaped squirters that could be turned on and off. There is also an interactive spray area, that looks as though it is a random sequence. The lounge chairs were all red and white, the main pool area has large "thick" squirters at each corner. There is also a laundry area and what appears to be a snack bar/bar which was not open. There is a spa/hot tub also. They were putting furniture into the next building, it should be open soon! There was also a bbq area near but not attached to the pool. It's all quite nice, but I did not see much for smaller/toddler kids to play on.

I just returned from a 2 night stay at SSR and we stayed in the first building of Grandstand (8101-8436) that is open.
I have the new map and pictures of the new pool area.
I am going to post them in a little bit. :)

Its a great spot. The Grandstand pool is nice and has a snack bar at it, thought it wasn't open during my stay and it is only a short walk up the sidewalk to the main pool and Artist's Palette.

It looks like the second building is about to open. Mouseservice was swarming over the place for the three days I was there.
The other two building across the parking lot were still being worked on by landscaping crews.

I will post the pictures as soon as I get them off of my camera. :)

TTFN!

Thanks for the great pics!!!!

Is the laundry complimentary? Was there a DVD player in the room? I am getting excited about requesting Grandstand - closer than I thought:dance3:

Except for the studios, each room has a washer and dryer. I don't know about the laundry rooms wether they charge you or not.

There is a dvd player in the room. You can get dvd's free at Artist Pallete!

Here's a different link to the pictures.. I noticed that Geocities limits the bandwidth too much.

We stayed in a One Bedroom. There was a DVD player in the living room.
The washers should be free for the studio people to use. I didn't look that closely at them though.

It really was a nice short walk up to the main building. This was nice, we got to enjoy the pool at Grandstand and walk over and enjoy the main pool too.

Also it made it easier to eat at Artist's Palette, and visit the Community Hall.

On Monday we hung out at the main pool. The staff started a Bingo game around 3pm and I won! :cool1:
It was $1 a card. 1 game per card. They played three games. I won the first game and got to choose from prizes that they had out on the table.
I got an i-Dog Pup, they also had a Furby and some other electronic toys. It was a lot of fun.

TTFN! :)

Wonderful photos!! Thanks so much. I cannot wait to see the new Grandstand section.

Thanks for the pictures and the info. We have made our first-ever reservations using our DVC and are staying at SSR for a week in June (not sure if June is a "bad" time or not, but with DH possibly deploying later in the summer June was the only option for us).

Thanks again...the resort looks beautiful!

Great Photos!

What are the typical balcony views for Grandstand? Is there DTD views? I'm wondering whether to request Grandstand or CP for next New Years Eve?

I thought it might be nice to (avoid the parks on NYE) and just sit by the Quiet Pool in CP and watch the PI fireworks at midnight.

I'm wondering what you could see from the Grandstand area?

You would be better off at Congress Park if you want to see the fireworks.
Looking at the map I don't think you will get much of a view from The Grandstand area.

thanks for sharing the pics. I'm really hoping that my grandstand request for next week is honored!
