Is the new 90+10 policy "fair and balanced"?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I just learned of the +10 part of the policy. Here's my issue:

1. two weeks from now, I get to my 90 window for a trip starting 5/23

2. Let's say I want to try for cindy's breakfast for any time on 5/24

3. let's say two weeks from now, I am the very first person to call in at the 90 day window.

4. It is possible is it not that even if I do everything I can, cindy's will be completely booked b/c anyone who is staying onsite from 5/14 forward could have made a similar ressie, thus booking the place solid before I can try to call in!

as I missing something here? seems to me there should be mass outrage over this, again, have I just missed it? I for one could see people who really, really want the popular ressies making hotel reservations just to jump ahead in line, and then cancelling them after they get the ressies. (there is a similar issue now brewing over in in DVC-land)

just wanted to get everyone's take and see how they are dealing with this.

How is this any different from the 180+10 policy that they've had for years?

I don't recall anyone saying that that policy was unfair.

I was not aware there was a 180+10 policy before so my bad on that, but I think there is a big difference - while some do it, I doubt seruously there was a high % of people calling in at the 180 window (maybe just all of us disboarders!) b/c few people had all there you know what together 6 months out.

now, at the 90 day window, many more people have an idea of what they want to do so there are more people calling in on the first day the window opens 90 days out than ever did before at the 180 window.

Your best bet is to try for an ADR at the harder restaurants near the end of your trip as those days should be less booked already. It's not fair but I can't see any way to make it fairer other than having to call 90 days out for each day of your trip, meaning you'd have to call 7 days in a row for your ADRs and only make them for one day each call.

So I would say from your statement that it is fairer.

For what's its worth, I would rather call each day, at least I know I have a better shot !

It is a huge convenience for onsite guests to be able to make all their ADRs in one call. Now that CRT has 3 meals that are pretty pricey and ALL require a cc guarantee, it is not sold out as quickly as it has in the past

A couple of things to keep in mind:

The +10 is a perk for resort guests so that you can make all of your ADR's at once in one phone call.

Yes, someone who's trip is before yours can book your dates before you but you can book your dates before someone who's trip is a few days after you (and now you're taking their dates ;) )

Lastly, I find it highly unlikely that someone will bother to make a hotel reservation, put the deposit down or CC guarantee just to make their ADR's sooner. If they're willing to go to all of that trouble, let them have the ADR. They don't sound like the kind of people I want to eat with anyways :sad2:

Just my 2 cents :goodvibes

I think that it is fair for onsite guests to be able to make their ressies with the +10 rule. I am staying onsite and have bought the dining plan, it would be very unfair if I wasnt able to eat anywhere! Its one of the perks of staying onsite, just like EMH etc :goodvibes

I do think they should go back to the 180 time frame though, I gotta tell ya it was tough getting ressies I wanted even with the +10 advantage, Le Cellier and Fantasmic package were totally booked solid the whole trip :sad2:

if you want to make a perk for staying onsite, fine. My point is we should all at least have a shot at making the ressies we want. Make a 120 day window for onsite and 90 for everyone else with no "plus anything" then its fair to everyone - we all have an equal shot.

Regardless of what is fair, I think the policy must save Disney time/money in terms of labor costs. If I'm staying onsite, I can call once and make all my ADRs, thereby only talking to one person one time.

FWIW Disney is rewarding those who spend more.No different than upgrades or points or any other system used to reward loyalty to customers.

If someone wants to get a ressie just to get an ADR good for them til the system stops allowing it.Not everyone can afford Disney lodging, this loophole may allow a few who can't in.Again, good for them:hug: .

I try to concentrate on what I want out of Disney and save&plan accordingly.
We are staying onsite during NYE-1/5/10 and I plan on a signature/luau/CRT every night we are there.I will be on the phone @ 6:30 100 days out and whatever happens is :thumbsup2

Actually CRT is available right now for up through June 19, so you should call right away to get your reservation. *Bolded because you should really try for it yet tonight if you have time*

Reports from those calling have overwhelmingly indicated that people have had no problems getting their reservations at all with the new 90 days. From reports it sounds like it's easier now than what it was when it was 180 days.

I know when I called to book our trip last week, the lady told me to check back at 180 days to make sure it has not changed back. She thought it would stay 90 days but she said that it could change. She gave me dates to call for both of them. :confused3

I just hope that the park hours and EMH are posted before the 90 day mark.

The fact that more people have their act together may actually weigh in our favor...perhaps less people will be booking 2 and 3 different ADRs b/c they don't have their plans laid out and want to hedge? :confused3 For what its worth, even with "less" people knowing what they needed to do 6 months out, I still couldn't get everything I wanted on the last trip...

I dont' have a problem with WDW offering perqs to their guests to book onsite rooms.

That's just what we do. Easier to get restaurants and dining times go in the beginning of our trip and the hard one's at the end. The hardest will always be at the +10 day.

The only difference is that there is an overlap, because some who called when the 180 days was still on will have their rezzies...

I guess it could happen...

But, they have to apply the new 90 day thing sometime.

I supposed I was affected by this and yet still got all my adr's...

I agree. If it was "fair and balanced", it wouldn't be fair and balanced, because Disney resort guests pay, in part, for the advantages that Disney is willing to give them, advantages in the hotel, in the parks, in the shops, and in the restaurants -- wherever Disney chooses to offer advantages to its own resort guests. :thumbsup2
