Is the Mummy really that bad?

This was someone's description of the Mummy on the trip reports board...
Where can I begin in describing the Mummy? It certainly was like nothing else I've ever experienced. I actually doubted whether I'd survive the ride in one piece. Going backwards was bad enough, but we seemed to go sideways at one point, and I thought we were going to shoot through the roof when we took off. This ride does play with your mind. I would never ride it again. If you like extreme thrills, it's probably your thing though.

Is it really that bad?
I don't ride roller coasters (Hulk, Duelling Dragons) and don't like G-force rushes (Dr. Doom).
I really wanted to try the Mummy but given the description should I skip it?

I wouldn't say it's -that- bad .. I convinced someone to ride it although they did not know it was a coaster, but really all you do is go backwords once .. it isn't too bad, I've rode it three times now and I'm not a big coaster fan.

Its not that bad, both of my DD's 14 & 7 rode it numerous times and neither of them are "thrill seekers".

Wow, that is a pretty extreme description. My DH who is not a coaster person, has ridden Mummy numerous times, and lives to tell the tale.

My DH suffers from motion sickness. He wanted to try the Mummy so we gave it a shot. I love roller coasters as long as they don't go upside down. I couldn't believe that he wanted to try it. We got on the Mummy and he seemed cool - as soon as that thing shot backwards I thought he was going to have a heart attack - I couldn't even enjoy myself thinking he was going to puke all over me. Most of the ride is in the dark so it's really not that bad but since its in the dark the ride kind of plays with your mind. When it was finally over I looked over to my DH who was sooo pale and sweaty and he said NEVER AGAIN! :wave2:

Well, it all depends on your tolerance level. DD11, DS7,and me have all rode it no prob.I will say it isn't as bad as those descriptions. IMHO, I thought it rather tame in the extreme thrills dept. It's more about the special effects than any super g-forces, steep hills etc.

In truth, the coaster section of ROTM is comparable to Big Thunder Mtn. Railroad, with the exception of the launch up the hill. It is a fast launch but it's not really that tall. The backwards drop that seems to scare everyone is no worse than the backwards boat drop on Maelstrom (Norway). The thing is: The ride is in the dark and anticipation makes it seem worse than it is. If I were you, I'd give it a try.

DH and DM do not do coasters. I mean kiddie coasters are their limit. DH loves mummy. DM thought it was nice to ride 1X nothing she would do again unless the grandkids asked her to.

the mummy isn't too intense and is a very good dark ride
i love this ride and i think any one would be fine on this ride....even my mom has gone on it(after a lot of convincing)
trust me if it wasn't good i wouldn't have gone on it 42 times(hence the signature)

then he sat wrong on the ride
if u dont mess around u shouldbe fine
i have never gotten hurt on the ride even with my hands out the whole time

I did not care for it. It was very uncomfortable for me. I am 6'5 and about 270.

To make matters worse...

I think the darkness must have messed up my mudula alamgatta. I did not feel to well the rest of the day after riding it. But I am a whimp when it comes to alot of motion.

Not a big fan of the Dr Dooms free fall either.

My favorite rides were Spiderman, Jimmy Neutron and Back to the Future.

Spiderman EASILY being the best.

Yeah, I want to live! I don't like feeling like I'm gonna die, which is why I don't ride rollar coasters (at least not anymore).

I dared to try Jurassic Park River Adventures last time, and had the whole place laughing because of body/facial expression in the picture. It's no fun having everybody point laughing hysterically saying "look at that girl!". (All I did was hold on to DH for dear life and brace myself. :guilty: )
Once on that ride was enough for me.

my da who is 50 and has a heart condition loves this ride
it is his favorite ride and he is really picky about which rides he goes on(thats why i dont like him to come....he never will go on the roller coasters with me)

I'm the biggest wimp in the world (wouldn't ride any other coasters at IOA or USO), but I LOVED the Mummy - it's hard to explain what it is, but it's unique and very very cool.

I'd even ride it again!

The ride is very cool, It has steep drops, fast turns, and real fast speed but nothin' too extreme. my DM gets motion sickness real easy and she loves it be sure to brace your neck though or u will get whipflash. hope this helps!

Wanted to say hey neighbor :wave2: !

I'm glad I read this thread. I always thought ROTM was just a simple ride on a coaster track and all of the excitement was the mummy action. I would have died if I got on it not knowing!! Hopefully I'll have the courage to get on it anyway!

Me, the wimp of all coaster wimps, absolutely loved this ride. I will not ride the Hulk or Dueling Dragons, but I love BTMR, and I loved the Mummy. We did it a total of five times in Feb, DS7 said it was his favorite US ride. DS 14 said it was fun but "pretty tame" (for him). I think it is like someone said, it is dark and the anticipation is worse than the ride itself, and it is pretty short. That was DH complaint "too short". Just give it a try and enjoy it.
