Is the Flying Fish or Yachtsman's too "stuffy" for families?

After reading everyone's great reviews on the Flying Fish and the Yachtsman - it makes me want to try them - but I wonder if they're too stuffy for us?

I know these locations have a "dress code" and when I've mentioned this to DH he grumbles..."Im on vacation - Im not dressing up - Im only wearing shorts..."....

and since we normally go in "hot June" I cant imagine DH sporting a pair of pants while we "travel" from the WL over to one of those restaurants. He would be completely "wet" with sweat by the time we got there!!

The dress code does allow for "dress shorts" - but would that be "khaki colored cargo shorts" or just a "flat front khaki style" short with a polo shirt?

And if DH busts in there wearing (nice, not ripped, or torn shorts) will he be looked down upon? Not that he'll care mind you - but I just want to know how far to walk behind him so people dont think we're together...:lmao:

I can see our boys (who would be 11 and 9) wearing nice shorts and a polo shirt and getting away with it - but can DH??

And will I have to/need to put away my khaki shorts for a dress for dinner? I am a "girl" and I do enjoy "girlie" hair, make up and cute shoes, but Im not a "dress girl" - but I could go buy one for a good dinner!

Thanks for your thoughts!!

People wear shorts and t-shirts to signature restaurants all the time, especially during the hotter months. The only place a dress code is strictly enforced is at Victoria & Alberts.

I ate with my college-age son at Flying Fish and had a wonderful meal. We were both wearing khaki pants and polo shirts. THere were many others wearing nice shorts and polo shirts, sundresses, etc. The service is excellent, but the restaurant is not stuffy at all. Lots of families, beautiful airy decor, and great food. :thumbsup2

The first time I ate at the Yachtsman, we were seated at a table next to a man who was wearing birckenstock type sandals, jean shorts and a white t-shirt with some sort of monster truck design on the front. As soon as I saw it I knew there was going to be fallout from my son (then a teenager) who I'd forced to wear a collared polo shirt. Now we only dress for V&A and the restaurants at the Swan/Dolphin.

As long as your husband isn't sporting a hat, he's going to be fine. They do make men remove the hats.

There will be a variety of modes of dress in both restaurants, lots of families with kids (especially early), and no one will care what you wear as long as you don't show up in a swimsuit or cutoffs or you're a guy in one of those wifebeater tank tops.
