Is the Fire and Ice Pedicure worth the money?

We are going on a cruise at the end of October on the Disney Dream. I am debating on whether to get the Fire and Ice Pedicure at the spa or get one for 1/2 the price before we go....:confused3

Get one before you go. while the Spa on the Dream is gorgeous, i have always found my "home" pedicures last longer.

My first *ever* spa experience was on the Dream, and I had the Fire and Ice Pedicure. We were on the 8/21 cruise, and I just took my polish off yesterday. Okay, I should have taken it off two weeks ago, at least..but it was my DREAM polish!!!! It was worth it. I enjoyed not only the pedicure itself, but the view from the spa was awesome...I was there very early in the morning, and got to pretty much watch the sun rise. They brought me a glass of lemon water, which in itself isn't a big deal, but I loved it anyway. I would totally recommend this experience to anyone!!! Enjoy!!!!

I say totally worth it!! It's not just the pedicure. I am not a big fan of massages, but that leg massage/treatment was great. And the view from the spa is fantastic!!

I just had the fire & ice pedi on 9/16 on the Dream. If you get Johnretta...LEAVE...RUN...it was the worst spa experience of my life. I get better pedis at my local salon for $25. This is what my $100 got me:

- I was repeatedly grilled for info on what my usual skin care routine is. Yes, my heels were cracked and the skin was dry. I'm a busy mom. I don't have time for lengthy routines anymore. Duh.

- I was informed my dermatologist (you know, a doctor) doesn't know a thing about cracked heels or dry skin. That was nice to know. I suppose I should inform BCBS to stop paying the guy.

- I was lectured about how I don't pamper myself properly (hello...busy mom here...is that not what I was paying her for???).

- I got to endure sales pitches for their overpriced products. That's always fun. I love pressure sales tactics.

- My favorite part was when she hacked into my cuticle on my right big toe until it was an open, bleeding wound. Once she was done doing that she made sure to file down what flesh she didn't remove with the nippers. I swear I thought she was gonna file my toe back to the first knuckle. I will say, she was sure to check over her shoulders to be sure that nobody was looking when she took her name badge off her uniform to poke a hole in the top of the medicine bottle she wanted to treat the wound with. She was real quick to get her badge back on before anyone else saw.

I swear, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I was in a hurry to get done which she knew because DH & I were having a couples massage. My toe was super sore for the remainder of the cruise. It sure felt great in the salt water at CC. :scared1: I didn't really enjoy the massage because I was still fuming over the craptastic pedi. I felt bad because all the spa pampering was a gift from my DH in celebration of our anniversary and all. I promise, tho, I will never ever ever eeeeever let just any salon touch my nails again. Ever. End of story.

So my vote would be skip the pedi and get a massage.

Absolutely not. Don't waste your money. Get your pedicure at home before you leave. I was on the Dream in June 2011. Both of my daughters got pedicures and both of their polish started to peel off by the next day. When I complained about it they offered to redo them, but unfortunately we could not find an appointment time that suited. So, they gave us a refund of for the price of the polish. I think the refund was $5.

On the other hand I really enjoyed my massage and my daughter got the day pass for the spa and REALLY liked that. I think she spent the better part of the day in there.

Wow...I've never had an experience as bad as what was described above, but...I've also had the experience of the spa people telling me that my dermatologist doesn't know what he is doing.

Frankly, what I sometimes do is do a "me day" a day or two before the cruise with a mani and pedi at my local day spa or the local beauty school. I've actually been more happy at the beauty school--those ladies are being graded and are intent on pleasing not only me, but also their instructor...and I like that their supplies are individually packaged prior to my arrival. It costs less than half of the ship spa at either of these places, even with a generous tip, and I can do other things with my cruise time and still have pretty toes.

Here I go being grumpy again.... I never think that spa services on most cruises are worth the extra money. I always feel like you play Russian Roulette with who you get, and the experience is just sort of ordinary.

There's nothing particularly "bad" about it... (unless you're getting your cuticle hacked into like the poster above) it's just not a good value.

Absolutely...except my pre-trip mani/pedi isn't usually a "me day". It's more like a "me hour" that I don't really have time for because I'm running around like a chicken with their head cut off cleaning, packing, and getting ready to go. :lmao: No doubt I get waaaay better results from the local salons. :thumbsup2 And I get to keep all of my cuticles intact which is something I now have a whole new appreciation for. The unfortunate factor that led to me submitting to the pedi onboard was chipping some polish on 1 toe during the 5 nights we spent at WDW pre-cruise. Hubby has a 'thing' about my nails looking imperfect. I went in search of a polish change. Where I messed up was having my husband who had already had a drinky-drink or 2 standing there with me when the reception lady said, "Are you sure you wouldn't like to do a pedicure? It's very relaxing." Before I could say 'no' my darling hubby had signed me up. Bless his heart. He meant well. Next time I'll have him wait for me outside the spa/salon. :lmao:

If I want pampering on vacation, I will get a massage or facial. I always get a pedi BEFORE vacation...I want my toes looking fab on the first day!!!
