Is The Disneyland hotel worth the money?

Is it true that you can see the fire works from the hotel?? If so, that makes things sooooo much easier

It depends on which tower you get and I think you have to pay extra for that unless you get upgraded =)

Another "extra" you will get is EMH (get in an hour before regular guests) at the parks every morning. You just need to show your room key. And you can charge stuff to your hotel room using your key.

For our family, our extremely limited time together is incredibly precious. Plus we are all about the Disney Bubble.

So yes, it is totally worth it.

We would rather go less often and stay onsite.

Or should I save it and stay somewhere else? I have two under two and a seven year old. Is parking that much of a hassle?

Yes, I think so, but maybe not multiple times. We were at DLH in December 2013. It's a nice hotel with a lot of Disney touches (the headboards with the LED fireworks are pretty cool). Having the EMH every morning was nice to get a jump on the crowds. We were traveling with my DW, DD3 and DS1, and they all had a blast. So "worth it" is a really relative term.

I can say it was a 10-15 minute walk through Downtown Disney every morning to get to the park gates (you can also take the monorail, but only to DLR, not DCA, but you can use the DCA entrance that's inside GCH). There are off property hotels on Harbor Blvd. that are a shorter walk (the ones right near the crosswalk).

Personally, I say it's worth at least one stay at some point. But I wouldn't stay there every time. We're staying off property when we go back in October 2014 at one of those Harbor Blvd. hotels I mentioned.

Yes, we were able to see the fireworks from the DLH. We were in the tower closest to Downtown Disney (I forget what it was called). That being said, it wasn't a great view, but you could see them.

So far we have only stayed at the DHL, in the Adventure Tower with rooms overlooking DTD; the view isn't spectacular during the day, but we were able to watch fireworks from our room. It's always felt worth it because I do need to decompress at least once during the day, and the rooms are comfortable with excellent service...and on a Friday night when every place to eat was packed, some with 2 hour waits, we were able to get room service in less than half an hour.

The last time we also used valet parking...totally worth it to me. No hunting for a space to park, no bag dragging--we used bag services and the tip we gave the guy was worth it.

My *only* issue with DLH is their freaking toilet paper. Seriously, that's some ouchy stuff.

Still...we're going again in a couple of weeks and this time staying off site just to see if we like it. The beds are going to have to be extra comfortable for me to say we'll not make DHL the go-to hotel, but we need to see. If this were our only trip in the foreseeable future, I'd definitely go back, but we're only 6 hours away so I'm 99% sure we'll go back in October or November.

If money isn't an issue and you're not likely to go back for a long time, I'd splurge. If it is...I really doubt you'd have less of a fun experience staying across the street.

We stayed at the GCH last year, and the toilet paper was horrible, paper-thin and scratchy. I am assuming that the DLH TP is exactly the same stuff. Thanks for mentioning this so it can add a roll or two in my suitcase.

Thank you so much for all your opinions! We recently found out that my husband had tons of hotel points because he travels for work. We are able to use these points at an offsite hotel and stay for practically free! Sounds like we'll have to make another trip soon! Thanks again :)

If he has a lot of points, he may also have status with the hotel brand, which could mean free breakfast and upgrades, too. That changes the equation a bit.

Good luck and have fun! Please post a report about the hotel when you get back.

We love staying at the DLH. We just got back yesterday from a stay there. *However*, there are some issues.

First off, the wifi is really bad. It kept going in and out. DH was not very happy about that since he likes to stream movies on his iPad during our down time.

Um, THIS! I thought we were the only ones with TP issues! We always try to remember to bring our own TP!

We were in the Fantasy tower, facing the uninspiring parking lot and front entrance of the hotel. However, we did have a pretty good view of the fireworks. We saw about 80-90 of the fireworks. We were at the far end of the hotel, so there is a big tree that blocks a bit of the fire works. If you're at the near end (when you're arriving), I think you'd be able to see 100% of the fireworks. We were on the 7th floor.

Man, after just three days of Disney Hotel TP, that was an uncomfortable ride back to Dixon. Seven hours of ouch...ouch...ouch...ouch...

Even though we're staying off site for the next trip, I'm bringing my own just in case. I'm delicate, you know...:rotfl2:

OP, it sounds like you've made your decision to stay offsite on this occasion. I just wanted to let you know that some offsite hotels offer fireworks views from the rooms. For example, we had a magnificent view of the fireworks from one of the premium view rooms at HOJO. Also, there are plenty of offsite hotels close enough that you can easily walk to and from the parks, even if you need a break during the day, and won't have all the hassles and wasted time of driving. I'm sure you will have a magical stay :goodvibes

That cracks me up! :) No intentional pun there man.
Yep, nothin' worse then a tissue issue! Matter of fact, what's up with Motel 6 quality toiety paper (Yes, one of my most favorite words) at a pricey hotel? Surely something else can be done to counter the cost of better quality tushy paper! I think we should write our Congressmen about this unhappy hiney paper subject! No, really man! Where was I? Oh yes.. ;)
Some ways for the hotels to save money, so good quality tissue can be issued; overload housekeeping by short staffing them. That should help. Put less water in the swimming pools. Increase the resort fees, and feel good about it knowing that this will keep bad booty paper on the $1 store shelves where it belongs man! Pay for concierge level? Well....that will get you only one helpful bit of advice per day. Need directions? A simple map will be handed to you, that's it. For an additional fee, on said map, a CM will highlight where you are and how to get there. That's it! Also, only tiny little bags of not so tasty peanuts and watered down KoolAid or Tang will be offered each day. I have other ideas too, for cost cutting measures to be taken, so everyone's bum may be as hap hap happy as can ;) be....
After all, a nice comfy toiety, good reading material, a person alone with their thoughts while addressing the porcelain throne, soft to the touch tissue, is so very kind to ones behind and great piece of mind! :)

I had the same question as the OP and decided to splurge, and so 2 of our 4 nights at DLH. I'm there right now, in fact. I probably won't stay here again, but I have satisfied my curiosity. The pools are good, but I didn't like the fact that they're 4 feet deep all around. Liked that they offer life vests. I'd say my favorite part of staying here is the headboard (kids love it,) view of the pool, and the fact that characters are wandering around (particularly Goofy). And it's a real "hotel" as opposed to a motel. They have room service, good onsite restaurants and really good service. But next time, we'll be back at the BWPPI. I just can't justify an extra $200 a night. Like someone above said, I can afford it, but would rather spend my money on other things.

Our first trip is at the end of this month. We will be at the DLH for 7 nights. As of right now I feel like we made a good choice with spending extra because we aren't park commandos when we do parks vacations. The resort (hotel resort) experience is something we look forward to a lot. We will likely spend a good bit of time there. I think a good way to look at the "worth it" part is to imagine how you spend your days. If you basically sleep & shower at your hotel I'd think a pricier hotel might not be the best bang for the buck. Spend the money where you'll be. Right?

The toilet paper issue comes down not to being cheap, but being green. The toilet paper is biodegradable. It helps prevent clogs and is better at the treatment plants.
