Is The DCL 50% off Promotion a bit of a Sham ?

It wasn’t until planning a surprise cruise for my wife that I discovered that pricing for more than 2 people affected the average price per person in the stateroom. Our previous 3 cruises were for just the two of us.
For this one we had 2 in one room and 3 in another same category. I noticed that the price per person for 3 people in stateroom two was less than our price for two of us.
The DCL 50% off promo ends 3/31/25. I was looking at some cruise options for May with a similar scenario as the one we just did. Both are for ocean view
In the below examples I ended up looking at a room for 4 people for this example on the Wish 3 nights and Fantasy 5 nights.

Wish 3 nights
Adult 1 $1,065
Adult 1 $1,065
Adult 3 $591
Adult 4 $591

In this one 50% off for adult 3 and 4 would be
$532 a difference of the regular rate $59 per 3rd and 4th person

The Fantasy 5 night is where I was really surprised as to how close this already to 50% off.
Adult 1 $1,610
Adult 2 $1,610
Adult 3 $815
Adult 4 $815

50% off the 3rd and 4th person would be $805. So the difference here and a 50% off promotion would be $10 for passenger 3 and 4.

So I ask. Is the 50% off promotion a real promotion when they actually get pretty close to that amount for the 3rd and 4th passenger anyways ??

And the Disney marketing department is saying: Made you look! Made you look!

Yes…this is my very cynical opinion of this type of promo, which includes free dining promos at the parks too.

That's not how it works. It's 50% off the price for the 3rd/4th guests if they weren't booking with the promo. This is the same cruise/same room with and without the promo. Also, the average price per person is less when you have more than 2 people because the 3rd/4th(/5th) people are charged less. The first two cost the same regardless.

I had a 3 night cruise in Dec booked for 3 of us (with insurance). When the discount came out we called and had them apply it. The total cruise price went down $531.00. Works for me! :thumbsup2

*Edited to add, I just did the math. The 3rd adult fare is about 35% of the fare for each of the first 2 adults.

DCL regular fares charge full rate for the first 2 passengers — whether there is 1 or 2, same total fare. Guest 3-4-5 are charged a lower fare based on age. The 50% off promotion is only off the regular fare for guests 3 & 4 when paying full fare for guest 1 & 2.

I did not realize that. So I guess it really is 50% off the extra people with this promotion.

I guess it shows I don’t have much experience booking more than two people in a room lol ( except once )
