Is Thanksgiving not PC?

Sadly, I was watching "Clifford's Puppy Days" on PBS this AM, and the entire show was about what everyone was doing for "Fall Festival." It was very obvious to me at least that it was TG they were talking about.

So was wondering if I missed the fact that TG is no longer cool. I hope not!

I"ve seen that one...it's on at 7:30 where I am and that's about what time my son wakes up for his first bottle and cereal feeding of the day.

There is NO holiday that can't be attacked by the P.C. police these days. You can't have Winter Solstice for fear of offending the Christians. Can't have Christmas without offending Jews and non-Christians. Can't have Thanksgiving..that offends the Ind..I mean..Native Americans. Can't have Halloween...too much Satanic influence and history there.

Sadly enough..the whole world has been washed in the bleach of P.C.-ness and we have come out worse for the wear of it.

In my time in the ultra-PC world of television, Fall Festival was the code phrase for Halloween. Either way, I think it's silly to try to rename things like that.

I guess I could see that if we were celebrating a battle/massacre kind of thing, but a big old 3-day party that everyone enjoyed, nope! (Everone meaning the men and the children! From all I have read the women worked liked dogs!)

Maybe the show is popular in a lot of other countries that don't have TG and they don't want to exclude people from other nations?

Edited to add:Oh, if "fall festival" is code for Halloween, then it makes more sense. Some feel that it's too pagan (spelled lowercase, meaning evil) and incourages devil worship (I'm not making this up!) and others feel that it's too religous because it's the main Pagan (spelled uppercase, meaning modern day witches, a very kind group of people who DO NOT worship evil things) holiday and heaven forbid we do anything religous in public anymore!

to me thanksgiving doesn't have anything to do with pilgrims or american indians. it's a time to give thanks for everything that hepened in the past year.

i don't really see how anyone could be against that.

You were watching something on PBS (especially a kids show) and are surprised it was overly PC?

My five year old son was making fun of Caillu (sp?) the other day for the lack of consequences for getting into trouble because it's not PC to punish children for doing bad things.

A number of years ago, our elementary school did away with Halloween celebrations, replacing costume parties with a 'fall festival'. Apparently, a hand full of families in our community don't celebrate Halloween, so in 'fairness' to all, the hundreds of kids whose families see Halloween as a wonderfully American tradition, and who do celebrate Halloween, now have to do without . No doubt, Thanksgiving will eventually be perceived in the same way .....

Monkeyboy, you may have it! Maybe Clifford is Canadien? I know several of the kid's show are.

When I was a child, my mother's church would always have a Halloween party and it was a big to-do and always tons of fun. Costume contests,hayrides,games,food, lots of good stuff.

But when I got into middleschool, my mom's church got a new intern pastor who did away with all of that. He is VERY conserative (is now the church's main pastor,too)and a real pain when it comes to things like that. When I was a soph in HS I agreed to be the sponsor for the 4-5th grade youth group. Boy I can tell you I had a HARD time coming up with activities he agreed to. I remember that year I forgot to get the Halloween party I'd planned approved by him and when I went into the church sec.'s office to have her mail the invitations out to the kids in the group, he saw them and threw them away. WHY? Because I had mentioned the words "Halloween" and something about a costume contest so bring your "scariest,wierdest,creepiest or funniest costume'. He objected to the words scary,wierd and creepy.

Does anyone else here think we miss a great opportunity to teach our kids about other culture's when we get too PC? If a Jewish kid learns about Christmas and Christian kids are learning about Hanakuh (sorry if I misspelled, obviously I didn't learn enough about it in school!!), then maybe we could learn to live together for a change. Maybe if we taught our kids what it is to be Muslim or Buddhist, we wouldn't have such horrible fears about those who look or dress differently. I think we've reached the dumbing down of America. If you go back to what the founding father's based our govt on you would find there is a lot of mention of the values of Christianity. A little tolerance, which comes with understanding, goes a lot further than a complete lack of information, which you will find in most public schools today.

Well, they were all taking food to visit their relatives elsewhere. I too have heard it used to describe a costume party at the end of October. That was what caught me off!

All I can say is that Clifford has gone down hill since John Ritter died!

It is ridiculous that we can't use real words to celebrate holidays these days. To anyone who if offended by Christmas, get over it. If you're a Christian offended by Halloween, too bad, don't ruin it for everyone else. Now people are offended by Thanksgiving? What in the hell is the matter with people??

Why can't we let others celebrate what they want without butchering their holidays?

Honestly, there is no real way to be PC. We are a Nation of diversity! What happened to the tolernace and acceptance that this Great Nation was suppose to be based on, though not always practiced? There are always going to be a handful or more of people that are going to be offended by something! That's life! Does that give that handful of minorities the right to dictate what is acceptable for all? I don't think so. Are we going to change our historical documents because someone doesn't like the word "God" being used. I certainly hope not!

I don't begrudge people their right to live and or worship the they want to; but I am certainly not going to let them dictate to me what is right or acceptable to me.

I fear that the way things are going we will be left with no "holidays" at all. All we will have will be the dates on our calendars. It seems that is the only PC thing that will be tolerated by all. That way everyone can be upset! At least until someone can find fault with that too!

I thnk we should just toss all demoninational holidays in favor of one big holiday made just so everyone won't get their knickers in a knot.

The holiday ornament is a plain aluminum pole, with no decorations or tinsel, because it is too distracting. And after dinner, the wrestling starts.
