Is T-Rex That Bad?

We went to T-Rex last November with 4 adults and 4 young kids. The restaurant was VERY loud and crowded, and the service was slow. The room we were seated in was an ice cave or something and the lighting made everything (including the food) look really strange. The lighting was probably the worst part of the experience.

This is large corporate restaurant so I would not go there for just the food. You can almost count on the fact that virtually everything is prepped elsewhere, usually frozen, and trucked in. The people in the back are generally just "heater uppers" rather than cooks.

A friend of mine used to work at a bank and one of his clients was a chain seafood place. When he went there to check it out he said the kitchen was mostly all microwaves where the frozen seafood was re-heated.

We like it! We have little kids and go every time we hit WDW. We're also Landry's Select Members which is something to consider signing up for in advance of your visit.

Cost is $25 but you get a $25 credit right away making it effectively free. Then you get a $25 credit on your birthday in addition to earning points on visits.

And you get to blow right past the family of 10 that made reservations 6 months in advance :p

We went last April and I thought the food was pretty good. I don't remember the service being anything special, but my then 7 year old son really enjoyed it. There were no ADRs available but we were actually able to get a reservation by calling the restaurant directly. I think we would be planning to go back this year if DD wasn't such a mess.

It tastes like typical chain restaurant food to me. We like RFC too so we usually do one or the other if we get a chance. I like the tomato soup especially. I do agree that the "ice room" or whatever they call it does have strange (almost uncomfortable) lighting. We ask to avoid that room.

We also like T-Rex. As stated many times it is loud, crowded, and service can be slow but also is a fun dining experience!! Beautifully themed. We like the food, better than a lot of the disney restaurants. Dinosaurs are the main attractions!

My son, 7, loves it there. We have been there many times, good food, good service. The only problem I have now is the construction/parking going on at DTD. It has been a mess, we are staying away until it's better.

we went to t-rex in feb. on our baby's 1st birthday. we were a party of 3 adults and 1 baby. no complaints here.

portions were MASSIVE. the theming was over the top and fun. we'd go again in the future for sure.

I saw T-Rex as a right of passage for us. We went there four years ago when my son was 7. He loved it. We didn't. The food wasn't terrible, just not that interesting compared to all the other options you have at WDW (I think that the applebees' comparison is very apt). My biggest problem was the noise. We were literally shouting at each other over a thirty inch table, trying to have a conversation.
We are now Raglan Road converts for our WDW trips and the kids like the dancing and entertainment just as well and the adults are MUCH happier.
Bottom line - if you have a young dino fanatic, take one for the team and take them there once - who knows, you might even enjoy yourself.

I find it noisy and overpriced for food that is no better then TGI Fridays. Not to mention that visitng DTD in the next year while construction is going on is a nightmare.
Saying all that if you have a child who is in love with dinos then I understand the attraction.

We enjoyed it last summer! Went at my son's request, not really expecting much. We've been to Rainforest several times near home and it's okay. Nothing great, but not horrible. Typical chain restaurant food. We were expecting basically the same here.

We were actually pleasantly surprised. We all had different dishes and were quite pleased with all of them. Felt it was just a step above some of the other chains that have been mentioned. And loved the massive ice cream/brownie dessert thing--can't remember the name. We were seated promptly and our waiter was one of the best we had all week at Disney. He was very attentive, could answer questions, engaged the kids. Just a really good experience overall. Honestly, I didn't pay much attention to prices since we were on the dining plan.

As for the atmosphere, it's LOUD. Anyone who goes in there expecting a quiet, relaxing dinner just hasn't done their homework. That's not the restaurant's fault! But the spectacle of it all is really fun--you just have to go with it!

We find the food to be ok. My 5-year old loves the theming there and requests that we go back. This August will be our 3rd time there. While not my favorite restaurant, it is worth going since he loves it so much.

I have heard a lot of negative reviews of T-Rex... I was wondering why everyone thinks it's so bad, or who actually likes it (and why)

The food is the same level as probably TGI Fridays, Chili's, Houlihan's, etc.

It's great for a kid that loves dinosaurs and plenty of food they'll like.
