Is T-Rex really not on DDP?

Or am I looking at outdated information?

This restaurant sounded good (especially for the kids), but if it's not on DDP, then scratch that!

If it's not, which non-park restaurant would you recommend for our 1st night at Disney? Won't have park tickets for this day, so has to be a resort or DTD.

Thanks!

it's not on the plan. I would suggest eating at Bomas since you are staying at AKL

T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe are owned by the Landry's Corp. and neither one participates in the Disney Dining Plan.

You could eat at Hardrock Cafe at Downtown Disney and then go shopping. That's what we usually do on our arrival night.

Thanks for the info.

I looked at the menu for Boma...and honestly, I'm not sure that type of food would fly with my kids. They are 7.5 and 4, and the foods sound a little too exotic for them. I'm all for trying new things...but on the first night, I think I'd like for them to have a guaranteed good experience.

Am I wrong? Tell me if I am...I've never been to AKL or Boma before!

Thanks!!

you're not wrong about Boma -- there are some "regular" buffet items, especially on the kids station but a lot of the food offered there is fairly exotic...we found most of it to be oddly spiced combinations (like red-hot cinnamon ribs) or completely tasteless/bland (pap) We also found it to be the busiest, noisiest, most hectic & congested of all the Disney buffets we've been to (I think we've been to all of them, actually.) Was worse than character buffets as far as crowded & noisy...but no characters.

I second the suggestion to go to Downtown Disney -- but there is no Hard Rock Cafe there (Hard Rock is at Universal Studios version of Downtown Disney -- Universal Walk) Perhaps the poster was thinking of Planet Hollywood...that is a table service there that is on the dining plan. If you're wanting something a bit less formal (no reservation needed so totally flexible on time) then I'd suggest going to Wolfgand Puck Express (not the Cafe -- the Express in the Marketplace end) The Express takes the dining plan as a counter service although the food is closer to table service in quality. You order at the counter, but then a waiter serves it & keeps your drinks filled so it's like a hybrid between counter service & table service.

After eating, check out the many places you can get great pictures around Downtown Disney...like outside the Pooh corner store (near W Puck Express) there's a darling park bench with full-size pooh characters -- great photo op -- free! There's also a Lego store with all the giant lego buildings around it (even a giant dragon in the lagoon all made of legos) They even have a giant bin of legos & building area kids can just play with legos (and parents can relax)

If you have time & it's a nice night, walk up in front of the Rainforest Cafe & catch the Disney Water Taxi to the Port Orleans resorts -- you'll get a peaceful little cruise up the "river" and get to see some pretty landscaping the whole way (goes passed resorts & golf courses) Ride the boat all the way to Port Orleans Riverside, and then take it back to downtown disney. Round trip is probably 45-50 minutes. Peaceful & relaxing ride -- for free. Just be sure when you get on to ask if there's time to ride it round-trip because they quit running the boats around 11:00. They'll also stop running if there's lightening, so don't hop it if it looks stormy.

OMG, yes, I did mean Planet Hollywood! We just ate at Hard Rock Cafe in Atlanta recently, so I guess I had that on the brain - the two places are similar. Sorry!

Anyway, I have picky kids, so that's also why we have never gone to Boma. I also like to stick with places I know they will like.

how funny! That is exactly the kind of mistake I make all the time, which is why I figured that might be what you meant! And yes, you're very correct both places have a lot in common, concept-wise.

wow that's weird the other posts didn't show up until I just posted sorry you already know its PH

Why not go to Chef Mickeys at the contemporary Resort

or take the boat from MK to Wilderness Lodge and eat at the
Whispering Canyon

I have one picky child, but she found plenty to eat at Boma's. I would suggest trying it at least once on your trip, we loved it.
Whispering Canyon is a riot. The kids would love it. But if you really want to go to DTD, then I would go for Planet Hollywood if you definity want a TS meal.
