Is Supershuttle the cheapest?

We are considering the Disneyland express -- what was hectic about the return?

For the trip back to the airport, we scheduled a pickup, since we weren't staying on property, and were the first to be picked up. Hooray. We were all sitting together and were settled in, but then when we got to the DL Hotel, they made us get off and move to another bus, which was already packed. It was kind of a pain.

That's essentially what made our trip back to the airport hectic. We were staying at the GCH. After a pleasant wait our bus arrived only a little late for our scheduled pick-up time to take us to the airport. We and many other families filed on and watched our luggage be put under the bus. Then, we pulled up to the DLH where there were a lot of people waiting for a bus. I thought "Thank goodness I'm already on a bus! I'd sure hate to be out in that line waiting." There was no way all these people were gonna fit on our bus. So, they pull up to all the people and start UNLOADING our luggage. What? This bus isn't going to the airport? So we had to get out, find our luggage and get into a huge line. By this time we felt like we were running dangerously late for our flight. I don't think it's much more for our family to take a shuttle, and with there being 5 of us, I know they can't have too many other stops before they take us where we'd planned on going.

I'm surprised so many of you have had such trouble with the Disney Express. We stayed at the GCH last December and the bus was so easy. It picked us up right on time, dropped us off first at the GCH. On the return, he was there on time, we went from there to the DLH, picked them up and were on our way to the airport. No bus tranfsers for us at all. Maybe because it wasn't crowded?? I don't know, but I found it to be the most stress free mode of transporation. We'll be using it again for our upcoming trip, but offsite this time, so my opinion might change.

I researched the carseat issue last year.

SuperShuttle told me that California State Law does require children (there are height/weight requirements, I'm not remembering them just at the moment) riding in their vehicles to be in carseats. However, other DISers have said they brought their carseat from home, only to have the shuttle driver load it in with the luggage.

If the shuttle is stopped by the state patrol, it is not the shuttle driver's legal liability to make sure your children are in carseats; it is the child's parent who will be ticketed.

Carseats are not required on buses.

Depending on which airport you use, parties of 3+ people may find it less expensive to just take a taxi, which I understand costs somewhere in the $35 - $40 range from SNA. It may also be just a tad bit more for a limo... :teeth:

Last year we opted for a car rental because we thought we'd hit a beach or the Disney Outlet store; never happened, so this year we'll take a taxi (or a limo...) :)

I wonder if these experiences are based on which airport? SNA vs. LAX? No one is saying which airport they were going to, I suspect the transfer issue may well depend on where you are headed.

Our party was trying to get to LAX. Which airport do you think they would have provided better service to?

Our party of 5 would have required two taxis. This would have been much more expensive than the shuttle. Even when there were just four of us, we couldn't fit all of us and our stuff in one taxi.

You're probably right. We flew in and out of SNA and will be doing so again this trip. Hopefully that means we won't have any issues again.

I'm really interested in this because when we called Super Shuttle they told us we didn't need them. They told us they fall under public transporation, so they aren't needed. I'd be interested in finding out which is right.

I looked at several optons for our august vacation. For us,(DH, DD, and myself) the Super Shuttle was appx $30 each way, and a taxi was appx $40. We had initially decided on the taxi even though it would cost appx $20 more. I felt that the direct trip to our hotel was worth the extra $20. I then checked out a rental car and found that I could get a car for the week for $84. I was better off renting the car. I have no plans on using the car for anything other than to and from the airport...it's gonna sit in the parking lot the whole week, but what the heck? When I looked at all options, I rented. I like the convenience of having the car at my disposal should I get an urge to go somewhere. Plus, I got a GREAT deal on it.
