Is staying on the monorail worth the $???

If you rent WBC through a third party it is much cheaper than that.

Disney transportation is abysmal. Slow, crowded, and inefficient. I'd much rather drive 15 minutes in my car to a park or TTC than spend 45 minutes or more on parks transit. I'll also take my savings to the bank. To each his own though.
I've stayed at every level of resort over 20 trips and never spent 45 minutes on a bus, including DME.

No one can determine the value of staying at the GF to you. It's highly personal.
True. However Drewsmom3 asked for opinions. Hearing from others can be very helpful in making that personal decision, don't you think?

I, too, am weighing that decision. I want to stay at the Poly one of these days so hearing from other people helps.

The Grand Floridian is terrific! But not because of the monorail. The monorail smells really awful inside, is too warm and stuffy inside, and breaks down often. That's not a good combination. Imagine being stuck inside a hot, smelly, completely enclosed vehicle when it breaks down, and you have no control over the situation. You don't know when you are going to start moving again, and you can't get out.:crazy2:

We stayed at GF years ago and loved it. We didn't have an issue with the monorail breaking down. Sometimes the monorail was crowded but it was never a big problem and MK is the first stop. We actually had more problems with the buses being crowded and having to wait for several buses before we could even get on. They stop at the poly first. One of the things we loved about it was being able to see the fireworks from our resort. No one has mentioned the electric light parade that can only be seen from the monorail resorts since it is on the lake. It also is close to the poly so you can walk there to see that resort and go to the luau. Which we did that trip. They also have water craft rentals if you have the money. We stayed in an out building close to the water which I would recommend. The main building is beautiful. We did do the character breakfast there which was convenient and fun. As other PP's have said it is all subjective. I hope my experience can help you make a decision. What ever you decide I know you will have fun.

My common answer to any question like this is how much do you value your money and is the convenience to MK worth that much. For me, the answer no Disney room is worth the money. When compared to what I can get offsite, the decision is easy. I will be onsite at OKW in December simply because I fell into a deal for $700 for 7-nights. Otherwise, I would stay offsite for less than the price of 2-nights at a monorail resort.

GF has the same alternate as Poly: same boat.
I actually had the boat from the TTC on my brain. When we stayed there, we were in Moorea at the end by the TTC, so we took that boat to MK when we went. We actually didn't end up using the other boat during our trip, so I totally forgot about that one!
