is stateroom 5524 really that Bad???

I just booked a December 2015 cruise on the Disney dream. I booked a Deluxe oceanview stateroom with navigator's veranda. I have been reading some mixed reviews. The stateroom is 5524 on deck five. Is that room really bad?? It's the only veranda cat that I can afford.

I checked the Stateroom reports and don't see reports that say this room is bad.

Why would you think it is bad? We have in 5516 on the Fantasy. It was a great location.

I don't remember where I read it. My stateroom is on the Dream. This will be my first veranda. Since the Dream and the Fantasy are sister ships could you tell me how far the elevators are from the rooms. I sailed on the Fantasy in 2012 but I have the Deluxe oceanveiw deck two.

It's not a long ways from the elevator, IMO. We actually liked 5516's location because of the way the hallway bends, which stopped running in the hallway and probably cut back on the noise versus a straight hallway considerably. We didn't hear a lot of noise, even when we were further up the hallway in 7526 the next cruise, so just a room over from yours in terms of distance to the elevator. Same area, just a couple decks up. We always cruise forward and didn't have an issue with the movement there at all. The only thing I didn't like about the room is that it was smaller than the 8D we had cruised in [5516].

This sounds familiar so I did some research. Disclaimer...I have not sailed in this stateroom, just read reports.

Supposedly people don't like it because it has about a 40% obstruction across the verandah. Also, it sits right next to one of the 5's with the extended verandahs but does not have one itself, so people on the veranadah next door can easily look over and see into this room (not just the veranadah but the whole room).

It was originally classified as a 5 but people complained so much it was reclassified as a 7a (obstructed veranadah room).

You can change to any unassigned 7A; you don't have to take the one they assign you. The ones on decks 7, 8, and 9 are all (IMO) better than any of the ones on deck 5. Two of the deck 5 rooms have the extra-obstructed views, and the other two have a tiny verandah. You might check to see if you can get something on a higher deck.

There you go I think the reason for most of the complaints was that the room was originally booked as a higher category and people were paying the same for that room as the others without obstructions, etc. The complaints I read were from before the category change.

As long as you go in knowing what it will be like, it shouldn't be a disappointment for you.

I'm with you, I will take obstructed verandah over none at all

Not sure how Dec sailings go, but keep an eye our for sales. We sailed on Feb 2 this year and sometime prior, we discovered a sale. We had booked oceanview connecting staterooms and we were avoiding the verandah cabins due to cost. (I do not remember our category.). The sale was on Verandahs, so if required an upgrade, but the cost change was very minimal. (Like maybe $100 more--again, I don't remember but this was on 2 cabins total for 6 passengers.)

So book the category you can afford and just keep an eye out for sales closer to your sales date.

We sailed in a verandah that was partly obstructed and absolutely loved it. It cut the down the wind and provided a little bit more privacy. But, ours was on the Wonder, not the Dream.

I was looking at stateroom 7520 instead of 5524. I think 7520 is on deck seven. I make my first payment in the morning. I'm going to call and ask if that stateroom is empty.
