Is Star Wars Land a bad choice?

I think building Star Wars Land is a huge waste. It will probably be a great area in the park but I don't think it will be as popular 20 years from now. I think lands should have general themes like storybooks and the old west like Fantasyland and Frontierland. Dedicating a huge space in the park to one movie franchise seems like a move Disney will regret.

Do you feel the same way about Cars Land in DCA?

I agree with your sentiment, for the record, but using Cars Land as an example, it's hard to argue. I don't like Star Wars, personally, but millions of people do.

Cars land, no not yet, but Bugs land feels that way. Odd choice that of all the Disney movies they could make a land out of they chose that one. The movie is decent enough I guess, but it's not one most people think about when they think of Disney.

I can see your point and while I'm not a huge SW fan, the fact that the franchise is still this popular 30+ years after it's release tells me the staying power is there.
But personally I wish they had used the land for something else.

You don't think a land based on a movie franchise that is coming up on 40 years old is going to still be popular in 20 years? Even though there is a whole new batch of movies being made and new fans are being born every day? Okay...

That makes about as much sense as saying that Cinderella Castle was a bad choice to put in the center of the Magic Kingdom in 1971 because that movie was made in 1950...

That's exactly how I feel about the upcoming AvatarLand. But I think Star Wars has more than proven that it still has a prominent place in our culture after 30 years.

If you had said this in 1977, that "Star Wars" won't be popular in 1997 (20 years) I may
have gone along with you. Who knows the future, right? But now close to 40 years after
the first movie it seems "Star Wars" has remained popular. Disney will be releasing a new
"Star Wars" movie each year for the foreseeable future - they say they want to release
two a year - so it seems reasonable to say that by 2036 there will be in the neighborhood
of 40 "Star Wars" movies out there with new ones still being made and released. The
"Snow White" animated feature is still popular 80 years after its release.

I think people will still be interested in "Star Wars" in 2036.

When I heard that Disney had bought out Lucasfilm, I was hoping for a 5th park at WDW, 100% dedicated to Star Wars, and or Lucasfilm properties in general.

I have been a Star Wars fan for nearly 33 years. I will be 36 in a few weeks. My boys are becoming fans. This place will not get old, unless they stop caring for it once it is built. Star Tours always has a line. That ride has been around for nearly 20 years.

30 years, Star Tours has been around for nearly 30 years.

Thank you. I am trying to forget that part. Getting older ya know! LOL
I know what you mean. I remember watching the movie for the very first time, almost forty years ago.
