My favorite roller coaster anywhere is California Screamin' at DCA because it's exciting but smooth. I remember Space Mountain at Disneyland as being fairly smooth. Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris was so bumpy it was totally painful and I would only ride it once. (I think they just fixed that.) Is Space Mountain at MK smooth or painful?

I wouldn't call it smooth, although sitting in the front seat is about as smooth as you're going to get on that ride. The worst seat is the last seat (seat 6). It is very jerky and can be a little painful. I had back surgery in 2004, so I always ask for the front car now. I still love that coaster, but I cannot sit in the back anymore.

I think it is relatively smooth. There are a few turns that may throw you from side to side but nothing that is too painful as far as bumps - IMHO. I would say try it out and see what you think!

Have a magical time! :earboy2:

It's not smooth, but not painfully bumpy like rock n roller coaster at MGM.

I didn't find the back very jerky... but I haven't had back surgery either. What I don't like about the back car is that you can see the people in front of you pretty well and the ride loses it's unpredictability factor. I suppose you can just close your eyes though.

Oh no...is RNR at MGM bumpy? It was relatively smooth at DLP! Is it the kind of ride that adult type persons only ride once?

I'd love it if someone could compare them both to the old SM at DLP. I love roller coasters but just couldn't stand that one.

I would not call SM bumpy but I would call it jerky. I has several tight corners that jerk you from side to side. The back seat is definately more wild and gives bigger air time.

Not been on the WDW one yet but the DLP one causes pretty bad head banging on the restraints during the inversions. :headache:

IMHuO, neither SM or RnR are "bumpy" when compared to other roller coasters. However, they both have tightly coiled tracks (makes sense - they are indoors) that have sharper turns than wooden "out and back" coasters, so you do feel a bit more side-to-side movement.

Be well!

Yes, the side to side movement gets you especially on RnR, your head really bangs around the restraints. Even the kids were complaining and they LOVE bumpy rides.

That's exactly what I was talking about. The only one of the five people in our family who wanted to ride the DLP SM again was the youngest; she was too short for her head to stick up...less painful for her.

Oh well, if SM and RNR are painful, we'll just ride Big Thunder Mountain RR more!!!

I think SM is really really bumpy :earseek: but I found RNR to be faily smooth. It is fun to see people's diffrent opinions on the same ride.

WDW's Space Mountain--think the Matterhorn in the dark and that pretty much sums it up. It's about the same amount of bumpiness (and very nearly the same track--I got off from my first ride on WDW's SP and thought "wow, I just rode the Matterhorn in Florida"). I thought RNRC was pretty smooth. I've been on much rougher coasters.

I thought Space Mountain was jerky and bumpy (mostly jerky). I rode it once and don't think I will ride again. It hurt to ride it.

Space Mountain was jerky when we rode it in December. DH hurt his back on it. He was in the 6th seat. Thankfully, this was at the end of the MVMCP so we just left and went back to our room.

Interesting to see the different opinions.

I've always considered SM to be very bumpy and jerky like the old time wooden rollercosters but RnR to be very smooth like a very good monorail. :flower:

space jerky, rnr smooth as silk, especially in front.

I rode SM when I was young and loved it. I rode it last year and thought it was bumpy and jerky.

Thunder Mountain - a little bumpy

Space Mountain - painful and jerky, not good for people with back or neck problems

Rock n Roller coaster - smooth as silk :)
