Is Soarin scary?

I have a fear of heights but went on soarin a few weeks ago, first time first row and loved it. I did not look down, but didn't really feel as if we went up very high. The ride is so awesome. I don't understand the heart problem caution, though.

I am extremely afraid of heights. I rode Soarin' last Sept. ...... with my eyes closed. I did peek two times. Dh tried his hardest to convince me we were only a few feet off the ground. But I knew better. lol We were in the front row and i did my homework! I will get back on again in Sept of this year (2006) and try to "peek" a little longer. I read the seat farthest left in the last row is the 'worst' seat, but in my opinion {being afraid of heights} it would be the best. lol I think Mom would have a good time. Closing my eyes allowed me to feel the sensations and enjoy hearing my kids having a wonderfully fabulous time.

The first row lifts you off the ground about five and a half stories, at least, so I was told by a CM. I'm pretty terrified of heights, but I love the ride, and will only sit in the front row. Its a wonderful sensation. I suggest anyone to ride it. Even though you are up high, its impossible to get lose from those seats.

Very gentle ride. I rode it at 25 weeks pregnant. I don't recall seeing any warnings posted for this ride except those about meeting the height requirement. And, I even looked to see if they had one for pregnancy (though I was going to ride anyway having been on it before).

I know opinions are personal, but I don't think anyone would call this ride scary. The few people who are bothered by it would probably say it was due to the fear of height factor, not the scariness of the ride.

DH doesn't like heights. He didn't like Soarin' and won't ride it again. By contrast, I love it. But, I love planes, flying, etc.

I would not tell anyone that it's not scary -- that is such a personal judgment.

I was thinking the same thing! Thanks for articulating that! I also have a fear of heights/fear of falling from heights and occasional vertigo. I rode Soarin' with my DH and kids and I had the hand-holds in a death grip! While I can appreciate the ride, I did not ride it again, but waited at the food court while my family did. I may try asking for the third row and see how it goes...

My sister, who has a fear of heights and has suffered from panic attacks in the past, was a bit scared during parts of Soarin, especially the San Francisco scene. She said it was something about the combined motion of the seats and looking at the all that water that freaked her out a little bit. She just sat all the way back in the seat and held on tightly and ended up enjoying the rest of the show. We were in the third row and while I was disappointed with the experience, she said she was glad we weren't up higher as she didn't think she could handle the height.

I thought it was scary, I was in the lowest row, and I'm not afraid of heights. The thing that got to me was when the seat pitched forward... I felt like I was going to slide out of my seat to the concrete floor dozens of feet below. You only get a lap belt - I didn't trust it to hold me, and I thought it was possible I could slip under. Obviously, I know it's safe or they wouldn't let thousands of people ride it each day etc., etc., but unfortunately I wasn't able to convince myself of that during the ride. If they put some kind of net over the floor, any kind of "cushion," it would have been much better, but no, just hard, solid floor below.
