Is so very sad.....

I am so sad today. My 11 y.o. sons beloved cat Stripey passed away suddenly. I was woken up this morning to my ds crying and yelling Stripey's dead. He was acting fine last night, like his normal kitty self.
We have other beloved cats in our home too but Stripey was my son's and I feel so sad right now. I feel horrible that my son had to be the one to find him. He was up with the stomach flu last night and came down early to get a drink this morning.
We rescued Stripey almost 4 years ago after our elderly cat had passed away and my son was crying every night in bed for 3 months. He took our eldest cat's passing harder than everyone else. Stripey immediately took to Richie and "knew" he was his cat. He would meow outside his bedroom door every morning at 6:45 to wake him up for school. Stripey was his best buddy. He was only 7-8 years old. We have 2 other cats who are 15 and 16 and are not the healthiest looking! Stripey was so young compared to them and was so strong!

It's especially sad that your DS was the one to find him. Later you can find comfort in knowing he didn't suffer with a prolonged illness, but for now, you must feel so awful.

When my dd's pet died, (at the vet's) they made a little plaster cast of his pawprint, and she still treasures it. If you haven't already buried Stripey, that's something to consider. You can buy plaster of paris at WalMart or craft stores.

Oh that is a good idea and save his collar. You could save the 2 things in a special little wooden box for your DS that he could keep in his room.

Poor little guy that is so heartbreaking. Give him lots of hugs and know he isn't going to be himself for a long time.

Having 3 very loved cats of my own...I hate to hear that someone has lost a pet. It makes me sad. Just know that you gave Stripey a wonderful home and continue to give your other cats a great life.

it's never easy to lose a furbaby..they become such a close member of the family. May God Bless you and your family in this sad time..my 2 recently departed cats will help Stripey find his way around the Rainbow Bridge till he gets his bearings!

Do you think this is something you should look into, like maybe he was poisoned or got into something he shouldn't have? It just seems odd a healthy cat would die overnight like that.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.
We love having pets. We have a Sheltie dog and had 6 kitties, 3 we had rescued when they were adult kitties and 2 we've had since they were kittens(they are 15 and 16 y.o.) and our foster kitty(who we plan to adopt)and of course fish.
My son takes after me and is a major cat lover. We volunteer with our local cat rescue, The Cat Shack. I think I have cried more today than he has but I know he is having a hard time coming to terms with what has happened.
I have decided to let my kids stay home from school tomorrow and have let their teachers know about our loss.
I did show him the Rainbow Bridge poem and he said he is glad that our cat HarleyBear, who passed away 4 years ago now has a friend there with him.
One day when he is ready we will rescue another kitty in Stripey's honor.
