Is showing vacation pictures rude, bragging or obnoxious?

I enjoy skimming through other people's photographs. What I hate is when the person who took the pictues stands over me and gives a running narration about each and every picture.

For example, I can see that I'm looking a picture of you eating at a lovely outdoor cafe. I don't need you to tell me everything that everyone in your party ordered and that the chocolate cake you ordered for dessert was the best you ever had-BORING!

OMG I would so totally LOVE hearing about the food. :teeth:

I put mine in a photo album, set it on the coffee table, and let people know they are pictures from my recent trip to _______. Then, they can choose. This way, it isn't obnoxious, you give them a choice. They can look if they want, but they don't have to.

I have a problem where I take pictures of all the food I order on vacation. It just looks so cool the way it is prepared. I put these in a seperate album so as not to subject anyone to that!

I wouldn't consider it obnoxious, and not classically rude, but if your intent is to make guests comfortable, I'd keep them shelved. Many people don't enjoy other people's photographs anyway, and with the other little one who may feel left out, (and I applaud you for thinking of him), I'd wait to be asked. If asked, then you can bring out the album and let whoever wants to look.

I also don't like running commentary if I'm looking at someone's pics (and I just like to see wedding and baby pics). If I have a question, I'll ask it, but telling me about Uncle Joe in the pic is not interesting to me.

:rotfl: OMG, you've met my mother! After her trip to from Alabama to Yellowstone she had 36 rolls of film developed. Many of the pictures were taken as the rode down the highway--"this is the Badlands, more Badlands, more Badlands, this is Wall Drugs, here's Mt Rushmore in the distance, that might be a prairie dog, blah, blah,blah..." Now with Mother you can't just look politely at the first few, nooo, you have to see all 36rolls. It takes about 3-1/2hrs withdescriptive commentary and potty breaks. By the time it was over I wanted to poke my eyes out with a sharpened pencil

Please, do your friends and family a favor--pick out your 10 best shots. If they want to see more, they'll ask.

And that goes double for baby pictures :joker:

I put all my photos I want to share up on the web--I use flickr.com. Then I invite people I think might want to see the photos to look at them at their leisure. I don't share my scrapbooks at all--I make them very personal, full of private references. These books are meant for me and DH only, to remind us of our vacations.

In general, I would not have vacation scrapbooks/photo albums out on display. Frankly, the people that want to see your vacation photos (and that group is smaller than we all believe) will ask :teeth:

You all would HATE me. I love photos. I love sharing my photos and scrapbooks and I love looking at other peoples. If people have albums out I nearly always ask to see them. Heck I put mine online to share with my family and friends. I'm really sad to think I might be annoying them.

Don't feel bad, I'm the same way, and so is everyone I know. I hardly think I'm annoying everyone with my photos.

I love to see vacation pictures. :sunny:

Now when several people start complaining about their jobs (in looong detail), then I look for the door.

I love to look at people's vacation pictures. I don't care for running commentary, just a few details. And.... I LOVE scrapbooks. I guess I just thought everyone likes to look at vacation photos and scrapbooks and I always offer them, not so subtly either. I'm just so excited! I get offended if the other person acts like they could care less, so I guess there's a happy medium out there :goodvibes I'll work on finding it, but will continue to offer :lovestruc

Well, I love looking at pictures regarless, I don't take it like showing off or bragging, but some people do, like my sister, she's so negative and her soul is full of envy that you can't even talk to her about anything, a movie, a pumpkin patch trip, or the most silly thing, because she "thinks" you are showing off. I don't even send her postcards from our trips or pictures.

I think putting pictures on line or leaving photo albums out on a table is totally fine, not the same as sitting people down to show them your photos. The difference is that people have the choice to look or not, get to pick when they look, get to choose the speed they look at them, etc. Huge difference!

My weird sister doesn't even like the regular non-vacation pictures, and if she looks at them insted of making positive comments, she will say things like how fat the kids looked, or how fat such and such looked, only mean and negative comments.

Well, I like the idea of having the photos out, and then those who want, can look. I think that is a balance that everyone can be okay with. Personally, I enjoy looking at others photos, so I know others do too. Now, talking about it, is a whole other issue, that will probably come up around the campfire. I generally don't say too much unless I'm asked, so I'll leave it at that too.
