Is September 29 - October 8 a good time to go?

I would really like to see lots of opinions on this one, if possible.

My boyfriend and I will be booking based on your opinions :thumbsup2

We are thinking about this time slot because we would like to take advantage of the free dining package during this time, so here are my questions:

For the period of September 29 - October 8:

1. What are the crowds like during this time? (I've only been in early November before)

2. Will it be terribly hot and humid?

3. Will we experience lots of rain and thunder/lightning?

4. Is this smack-dab in the middle of hurricane season?

I really appreciate any and all opinions (good, bad or the ugly), especially those who have traveled there at this time. But of course, I happily welcome opinions of anyone! :teeth:

Thank you so much! :thumbsup2

I can't speak for the crowds, as we haven't been this time lately. However, I would expect the weather to be hot and humid and a possibility of thunder showers each day. These usually pass through quickly. As for hurricanes, the hurricane season runs from August through November. I wouldn't eliminate this time of year just on the chance a hurricane hits. If you're worried, you can buy travel insurance.

We'll be ther then. We're flying in on the 24th and heading over to vero for 4 days the WDW till the 6th. Crowds should be OK, the only concern is hurricanes. But Orlando is so far north it shouldn't be a problem.

I went during that time period in 2004. It was very humid but that was because we arrived a day after a hurricane pass (I think we were one of the first flights into MCO). The crowds were quite manageable, I remember we walked onto a lot of the rides. The crowds began to pick up as we got closer to the Canadian Thanksgiving/Columbus Day weekend. I don't remember any rain I think that was probably a first for us. Tons of bugs though although that might have been due to the hurricane. One of the reasons we picked that time is because of my birthday and because of MNSSHP.

Go to this webpage.Scroll down till you see the calendar and search for your dates (it looks pretty good for crowds by the way.Lots of 4's and 5"s....10 being very busy). http://www.touringplans.com/tp2/UG2_index.php?PageID=14

About 4pm each afternoon you'll probably get a thunder boomer or two and then it will pass as quickly as it arrived.

Yes....but as mentioned ,it typically stays well to the south.

We were there last year at this exact time and will be heading there again sept 29 to oct 9. It was very warm and not crowded were ever we went. It was warm for me but my aunt and her friend were very uncomfortable. I love the warm weather they prefer the colder. I guess it depends on the person.

We are headed back at this particular time frame this year. We have been at this time before and just love it. It definately can be hot and humid and can rain as it is still hurricane season, but it is beautiful.

We will also be there ... and went 2 years ago around the same time. I must say that it can be really hot and humid :sunny: ... we did the parks mostly early morning and evenings. The crowds were not bad at all ... of course the weekends were busier but nothing like the middle of summer.

:cheer2: Enjoy your trip.

Dh and I went that time in 2001 for our honeymoon. It was warm and it did rain a bit everyday but its Florida. :) Animal Kingdom was the worst. With all those tree's they had just power washed I was going to pass out from the humidity.

Other than that we loved that time of year. Also Oct.1st is the Magic Kingdom's birthday and there is usually something going on with press and stuff. We were on good morning America which was cool. ( Yes we were those people waving from behind Mickey and Eisner talking to Charlie Gibson)

All in all we would go back this year then, if I wasnt about to have a baby and that baby would be a month old. :)

We were there at that exact time last year. It was far more crowded than we thought that it would be (FREE DINING) and hotter and more humid than we expected. However, I only remember one thunderstorm, and we were at a character dinner at the time, and it didn't affect us as all! IS IT A GOOD TIME TO GO? ANYTIME is a good time to go to Disneyworld.

Also another Canadian heading from Sept 30th to Oct 9th. I really can not stinking wait. We've done Disneyland about 8 times, only because we are in the West Coast, so it is quick to get to. This is almost as far East as you can get for us.
I am so excited....I look on this site almost everyday. Man, October is FOREVER away :)

I'd say it's a great time to go. Although it will be humid, you won't have to fight with crowds. If it does rain, it usually is only for 1 hour and then the sun comes back.

Great events will be happening at this time as well like Free Dining, Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, and Epcot's Food & Wine Festival.

I am going end of September! :cheer2:

Last year when we went Sept 23-Oct 3, we didn't find the crowds too bad. It was a little dicey at the sit-down restaurants due to the free dining, but even at that, we had luck just walking up to Le Chefs de France one Friday night at suppertime and were seated in under ½ hour.

The heat was pretty crazy - I had to break down and shell out US$17 on one of those misting fans that you can buy for cheap back home. While we were there we were on the outside bands of that hurricane that hit Texas hard (why can't I remember it's name?) so there were a few good downpours, but they didn't last long and then the sun was out again.

I plan to go back during the same timeframe next year (crossing fingers for the free dining plan in 2007! ;))
