Is Sci-Fi a good choice?

We are going in a party of 8 (5 adults, 3 kids) and none of us have been to Sci-Fi, which is why we chose it over 50's. Brown Derby is out because it costs 2 credits. Here is our dilemma:

1. Our schedule for that day makes Sci-Fi a more convenient place to eat, as opposed to going to the Boardwalk or some place like that.

2. Reviews aren't that great for Sci-Fi, and since we can't all sit together, we don't know if it will be fun.

The other places we were thinking about going to instead were Big River on the the Boardwalk or perhaps some place in the World at Epcot, like Teppan Edo. I'd appreciate your thoughts! Thanks!

We have only eaten at Sci-Fi for lunch but we love it. It's a must do every trip. Sometimes we eat there more than once a trip. We love the old corney movie clips.

The burgers are very good and so are the shakes. My DS13 LOVES the artichoke-spinich dip. You should be able to ask for 2 cars side by side and then it wouldn't seem like your not sitting together.

Have fun!

We went for the first time this past October. We are a family of five (our dd's are 13, 10 and 10). This ended up being my dd's favorite place to eat! I was so worried after some reviews, I posted a thread like this one. I had some great reviews come then. We were very happy we went. Now I will say that both of our trips we were blessed to have free dining, so I try not to look at the check to see what I would have paid. I found the food to be pretty good. My husband and I both had the steak. It was good (it's not the best steak in the world, but remember you are at the drive in!) My dd's all had the ribs and said they were the best they had all week at disney. They love ribs! THe milkshakes were yummy and so were the desserts. The atmosphere is the best! It's smaller inside than I had imagined, but we found the service to be good. Go and enjoy yourself!

I agree with the other posters, we also enjoyed it and have been back several times since then. The food is not at of this world but the ambiance is great! :thumbsup2

We really enjoyed it. We have only been there once, but it is on our list for our next trip!! It's a nice relaxing break in the day. There were 21 of us and we had 4 cars all lined up next to each other.

Oh, if you have never been the Sci-Fi before, it is definitely something you should experience. It will be the one of the highlights of your Disney dining experiences for sure! The atmosphere is simply unlike anything at any restaurant I have ever been too... Obviously, I wouldn't call the food amazing, but it is good, and relatively speaking, fairly reasonably priced.

Only one other thing-- it sounds like you bought the dining plan... we found that the plan really limits what you can eat.. and most people who I have heard purchased it ended up buying extra food anyway.. so if it's possible, you might want to reconsider purchasing that.

I agree with the others who have said that if you've never been to Sci-Fi then you really should go. Do go in expecting a 5 star meal - they have good sandwiches and burgers and it's a great atmosphere. My daughter wants to eat there on every trip. We weren't going to this upcoming trip in May just to try some new places, but DH just mentioned he thinks we should go since we're bringing the grandparents this time and they will get a kick out of it. We much preferred the food at Sci-Fi to the food at 50's Prime Time Cafe but then we don't care too much for the homestyle diner-type food. We like the burgers, sandwiches, onion rings, etc at Sci-Fi.

We have only been to WDW twice since HS opened, but we LOVE the sci fi-- both times for lunch.
We tend to do most of our table service meals at lunch.

My son who is now 16 went for the first time at age 9 and asked specifically to go back last year when we was 15-- almost 16.

Hope you love it!
Debi:)

We ate there for lunch for the 1st time last August. All 4 of us got burgers. It was the best burger I've had in a very long time. I don't know about the dinner menu, but we'll definitely be returning for lunch.

Its okay, not great. The ambiance is the main draw. Its expensive, but not crazy by disney standards.

We didn't care for Sci-Fi, but that was dinner...lunch has gotten GREAT reviews. IF we ever go again it will be for lunch.

DH and I went to Sci-Fi last Nov and didn't like it at all. They play old movies which is fun the first time around, but when you are there for awhile and the same movies keep repeating it gets boring. Also didn't think much of the food. I can see where kids might like it but we wouldn't go back. There are too many other restaurants that are truly good to waste time with SciFi.

We've eaten here at least a dozen times in the past few years and we all love it, young and old alike. The burgers are decent, the milkshakes are great and seriously, who doesn't want to eat sitting in one of those little cars?

Sci-Fi is really for atmosphere. The food is only decent. But the kids will love sitting in the cars.

You might consider a kids' table and an adults' table. I think they can do long tables - you just won't be sitting in the little cars (which does take away from the fun a bit).
