Is salad an appetizer?

I've noticed on many of the restaurant menus that salad is something you can get for an extra charge, whereas I'm used to it coming with an entree. On the DDP, is salad considered an appetizer at these places? Thanks!

Salad would be considered an appetizer.

It probably goes without saying, but do please keep in mind that entree salads, however, would be considered entrees, not appetizers.
