Is renting considered a transfer?

Hello
I am currently trying to rent some of my points (banked) that will expire soon.
Is this considered my one transfer?
I am booking a trip for next February in which I need to have some points transferred into my account from a family member in the next 2 weeks so I can book it.
I thought I was all set but then someone said that my renting the points (through David's) is considered my one transfer.

Thanks for any help on this...I have read the threads and didn't see this answer.

Renting is not a transfer. You will actually be renting a reservation, even if you decide to use David's services.

Yay! Is there a limit to how many reservations you can have at one time?
My mom is making reservations with her points for 3 separate parties this is in addition to transferring points to me for the same trip. (6 families going together).

A member can make multiple reservations for the same dates as long as the guest names are different on each reservation.

A transfer would be giving some or all of your current year points over to another member and you no longer control the points. A rental is just making a reservation, putting someone else's name on it and you maintain control over the reservation until the guest checks in.

historically, DVC will get nervous if you are making 20 or more reservations in someone else's name - and possibly investigate whether you are a commercial renter (which would be against their rules).

Clarifying: if you rent by using your points to make a reservation in the renter's name, that is not a transfer of points because you are not actually transferring points to the renter. However, if by rental you mean you are going to actually transfer points to another member's account, that will count as your one transfer for the use year. If going through David's that likely means you will be doing a reservation in another's name using your points so it is probably not an issue. But just be aware that "rental," in and of itself is not what determines the issue. It is the type of the rental transaction, either using points to make a reservation in another's name or instead actually transferring points, that determines the issue.

So I have a question that hopefully doesn't take this off-topic... Let's say I want to transfer points into my account so that I can combine points to make a reservation. Is this possible and are there any restrictions to being able to do that and use the points?

My situation would be needing extra points in addition to what I already have in order to make a reservation approximately two months before travel.

Where can you rent these transferred points? I know Disney will allow you to purchase 24 one time use points, but I think I will need more.

Thanks!

Are you saying you're thinking of booking a DVC room 2 months out? That might be a bit hard since they tend to fill up 3-4 months out. But you might have luck at SSR or AKV.

Read up on transfer rules. There's a couple of threads. You only get 1 transfer, whether that's in or out, per UY. You'll most likely have to book via phone since most transfers don't show up online. You can't transfer banked or borrowed points, but you can bank transferred points.

There are people on the "Rent" boards willing to transfer.

If you want a transfer if points, you'd have to find an owner who is interested in doing so...you can go to the Rent/Trade board and find owners offering to transfer. Once transferred, they are yours.b they retain their home resort and UY status. As mentioned, booking only two months out could mean little availability. If you can't get what you want, you will still have those points for use later....they don't go back...

And, if they are not the same UY and home resort as your own contract, you will not see them online which means you will be forced to call MS to book them.
