Is Remy or Palo enjoyable for a picky eater?

My husband and I just booked our first ever Disney Cruise to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. I'm considering booking a meal at Remy and/or Palo, but I'm concerned that my husband might not enjoy the experience because he is an incredibly picky eater. He is pretty much the definition of a meat and potatoes guy. If it's a vegetable he won't go near it. From what I read on the Disney website it sounds like there are fixed courses at these restaurants and I don't want to pay extra for dining if my husband won't enjoy the food and/or be embarrassed because he doesn't like what is brought out. Can some experienced cruisers who have dined at Remy and Palo please give me your opinion based on your experience? Thanks!

I would think your husband would have no issues at all dining at Palo. It's Italian, and they serve an excellent steak. Remy would probably not be as good a choice for him. The chefs will do their best to prepare a meal he would find enjoyable, but Remy is definitely fine dining, and the foods may be unfamiliar.

I consider myself a somewhat picky eater and I feel Palo Brunch is the best food on the ship! One of the reasons I like that so much is there is such a great variety...too much that I like. ;) I enjoy dinner too, but have not been in a while. I do plan to go on my upcoming cruise and ask for the pasta dish without the shrimp on it as I do not do seafood.

As for Remy, I don't feel that is for me.

Definitely Palo for brunch or dinner would be a good choice for a meat and potato guy. The Italian cuisine is geared towards meat, seafood and pasta. Not a lot of vegetables on the menu (except for soup). There will be several items on the menu he can recognize and enjoy and maybe something new. Happy No. 1. pixiedust:

We were just at Remy over Memorial Day and I am an extremely picky eater. It was still one of the best meals I've ever had (and I am a meat and potatoes person as well). There are two 5 courses meals to choose from, I was able to make my own custom menu choosing some off of one and some off the other. And in the instance where I wouldn't touch either option, there were some additional options at the bottom of the menu (for example, I was able to swap in a chicken dish) and in another case the waiter offered something not even listed on the menu (pasta) for one course that was delicious. And on top of that, they accommodated my laundry list of things I hate (all seafood fish, mushrooms, certain vegetables) and/or are allergic to (apples, certain cheeses). It was absolutely delicious and I would not hesitate to go back.

Your husband sounds like me, I always say the only thing green that goes in my mouth are green M&Ms. The filet mignon at Palo is to die for and is perfectly cooked to your taste. My DIL will only eat well done meat and she says Palo cooked it perfectly, I'm medium rare and mine was also perfect. I won't eat any of the appetizers except maybe the fried calamari which is very good. You can also try Palo Brunch which is my favorite, a lot of variety. King crab legs are delish, the eggs benedict, the chicken parm, the lasagna etc, etc. I have never gone to Remy because there's not one thing in the menu I would eat. Instead of paying for one meal in Remy you can have Palo Brunch and Dinner and come out ahead. I think he'll enjoy it more. Happy Anniversary!!!!

I am also a picky eater and would say meat and potatoes are my go to food. I thoroughly enjoyed Palo and have it booked again for our next cruise. You will not regret booking it IMHO.

Well I'm a meat and potato type person too and didn't really enjoy it. Yes you can get steak and pasta but the portions are very small . I felt really out of my element there. Didn't know what to order so I left hungry. While my husband wasn't a picker eater ordered a lot. I tried to order like the main dining room while i think my husband did the wine pairing and his food kept coming while I had nothing...lol

Thank you for your help everyone. I appreciate your guidance. Right now, I'm not seeing any available reservations at either restaurant that will work for us, but I'll keep checking to see if something opens up. Based on everyone's feedback I think Palo would be okay but that if we do try get an opportunity to try Remy, the dessert only reservation would be a much safer bet for the hubby. :)

Palo has a lot more choices than Remy, so stick with Palo for a picky eater.

Btw, if you can't get advance reservations online, you should be able to get reservations upon boarding the ship as they set some availablity aside for onboard booking.

This has been our experience as well and why we stopped going. My wife is super picky and the last time we went she just didn’t feel like there was anything there that really made her enjoy the experience.

Ultimately though just look at menus and get an idea of what is there and see what you think. Worst case scenario you try it once, decide you don’t like it and then order something from room service.

I’m a picky eater. I honestly thought when we went to remy I would be going to get pizza afterwards. I told my wife when we booked I know I won’t like it but We have to try it once. Well it was delicious. I told my waiter I hate fish and he made substitutes. I left stuffed. Probably won’t be back because of the $$$ and you have to wear a suit. But it has nothing to do with the food.

I agree. I am picky at times and I found everything at Remy delicious and we have been back a couple of times since. I always leave full (if not overly full)

I am super picky but Palo filet and mash is to die for. So is the butternut squash ravioli. The bean soup will pass muster and all the desserts.

My husband did not eat anything when we went to Remy and Palo. In fact, all he would eat in the MDRs was ice berg lettuce and ranch dressing.
He LOVED Castaway Cay lunch.

Thank you. I didn't know they held a few reservations back. If I can't find anything in advance I'll give it a shot. :)

We've eaten at both several times, including with our son once he turned 18.

In general, I would say that Palo is much safer bet than Remy for a picky eater. Remy is quite a bit more exotic and adventurous (not to mention expen$ive), with items such as foie gras foam. With that said, my normally picky son turned into the quite the gourmand at Remy, and decided it was the best meal of his life. ;)

That is too funny. We dont love the Castway Cay lunch. I would prefer a Remy or Palo meal to anything else on board!
