Is "Pteranodon Flyers" really only for kids?

US' website specifically says "This attraction is designed for children 36" to 56" in height. Guests over 56" in height must be accompanied by a child meeting the 36" height requirement."

Is it really only for children and their parents? Have any adults been able to ride it without children with them?

On very rare instances adults have been able to ride w/o children...but that's only if the planets are in a special alignment.

This is the rule. The reason the rule is in place is because the ride has a very low capacity.

You can try riding first thing in the morning before the crowds build. You may get to ride it, you may not.

Thanks for the replies. I'll see if we'll be allowed to ride it on our way out at park closing then. If not, I'll try it again at open or close the next day.

I have no intention of riding:
- Doctor Doom's Fearfall
- Incredible Hulk coaster
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
- Revenge of the Mummy
- Jurassic Park River, maybe...
- Ripsaw falls is a maybe.. heck, I haven't even done Splash Mountain yet!

Maybe if I explain that, they'll take pity on me and let me ride the kid ride! :goodvibes

If you get to ride be sure to post it here. I thought it looked relaxing and wanted to ride but was afraid to ask.

Mummy and Jurassic River are great rides you should give them a try.

Just sayin'....missing all those rides, you are missing out on a TON of fun!!! I just got back from Universal/IOA....I was a ride weenie and a person who is very cautious of rides.....This trip I let all caution go to the wind and just tried the rides, it was a blast! NO need for the fear I had built myself up for! The HULK is my most favourite ride I've ever done in any park---and that includes Disney rides!! Rip Ride Rockit, just a lot of fun, smooth and not upside down at all, fun to hear your music play as you rip along the nice long track....it's just really an enjoyable ride. I did the MUMMY once, it was ok. I didn't like it as much as RRR or HULK....It was dark, and loud! I think that's what I didn't like was the loudness of the ride! Jurassic Park, it was fun....the drop is not bad at all, you don't even feel a lurching feeling going down the hill, you can get quite wet though....it's the luck of the draw---"weight of boat/vs. where you are sitting!" I just wanted to drop by and say, don't discount all those wonderful ride experiences. Universal/Disney are very safe, and I think it's a wonderful place to explore, try new things and get over ride phobias! I am so glad I let loose and enjoyed all the things I did with my son. I had so much fun and realized that coasters are not as scary as I let myself believe....I can live through it and I can have fun on them! I even managed Dueling Dragons (the red and blue inverted coasters in Harry Potter World) BOTH tracks I tried!! Although I did not really enjoy Red, (it was a little more intense than blue) at least I tried and I was so happy I was able to come home having experienced the whole shebang! I will be less leary next time and I am a bonafide ride-chicken convert! Try it, I am sure you'll be surprised by some of them and you may even like it!!!!

As I close this , I want to give you encouragement to try one ride in particular.....It definitely looks way more intimidating than it is, and that's the HULK! I can't stress how fun the HULK is....and it really is not scary in the least bit. Even that launch, I worried about for weeks....it really didn't feel 1/4 as intense as RcnRC at Disney....I found the HULK actually slower than RcnRC....and the momentum sometimes was less intense, I don't know how to explain it, but the ride felt like it was slower near the end....overall, it was smooth and so much fun! I loved it!!!
Have Fun, I can't wait to go back...it's going to be a loooonng 5 yr wait for me!! :sad2:

The day we went there was a worker posted at the front of the ride, you couldn't get in unless you had a little kid with you. They were turning away alot of people the 30 minutes or so I was waiting for my son and wife to finish up...

I've been to IOA hundreds of times and have been on the Pteranodon Flyers a whopping one time.It usually has a huge wait and most of time you need to have or rent a kid to ride. The one time we rode it we had to wait Like 45 minutes for a ride that took like 15 seconds,I obviously had to do the wait to see what the ride was like but it's such a short ride it's not worth such a long wait.

That was our experience, too.

Ditto. OP, I think your odds are very long....

maybe i am just lucky...........don't know.
last year in october, i did ride Pflyers two times.....
two different days though.

i went there when it first opened and the TM's let me on the ride without a kiddette with me.

i was told that normally adults are not allowed on the ride without a child.
since there were only 2 other peeps in line, they said i could go.

the next day, i did it again.
the TM there said the same spill but allowed me on the ride since no one else was in line at that time.

i did go right when the park opened while others were heading off to parry hotter land and marvel land.

it is a kewl ride but not worth any type of wait.
the ride is over before you even know it.

but still, it is kewl....

I have been plenty of times with my son. We went once without my son on a super slow time and my wife and I got to ride.

So if anyone is there while we are there and would like to rent my son, just ask.:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

We tried to ride it in January, the wait was only 10 minutes but they wouldn't let us get in line. I knew before going it was likely we weren't going to be able to ride but I was still disappointed because it looks like a fun ride (and I wouldn't mind adding another coaster to my coaster count). Apparently a lot of people want to try the ride as 2 other groups were also turned away when we were at the entrance and we were only there for a minute.

We've seen a lot of people turned away because they don't have a child with them, even when there was no line.
This was one of the reasons I had kids.... I waited years to go on this ride :rotfl:

They wouldn't let my DD, who is 12 and 5' 2" to ride on it... Said she was too tall! She was very disappointed. I told her next time we would try and find a little kid for her to ride on it with.

Does this ride have a FOTL entrance?

Unfortunately, no

I waited with DD last August while the boys did the JP River Ride again. Right as we were getting on, the skies opened up. Our ponchos were in the bag with the boys. Not a fun ride at all with driving rain pelting you in the face and everywhere else and the thunder rumbling. Right up there with Forbidden Journey for the scariest experience of the trip.:scared1:

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies. The wife and I were turned away last summer also. This year I will have our grand-daughters so maybe I'll get a chance to check it out.
