Is POR "Alligator Bayou" neat or cheesy?

When I read about the 'bayou' section of POR it sounds really neat - very Disney themed, fun, quirky etc. It looks like DH and I might have a week to slip away from the kiddo in late Sept/early Oct and visit the World 'just the two of us' - now that does elicite some guilt on our parts, but there are so many things we want to do that we really couldn't with a 3 yo. So, I am in the early planning stages and looking for a resort to stay at. Last time we were at AKl and Poly and loved them, but this trip is going to have to be more wallet-friendly so we are looking at the mods.

Any feedback on mods and esp. POR/POFQ is greatly appreciated.

We love it there. It's quiet and peaceful, the landscaping is beautiful, and the decor isn't "cheesy" at all. The quiet pools are wonderful.

The two of us are headed there next week for some "grandma and grandpa alone time", and while I like both sections of PO R, and didn't request either one (except that I paid for a water view), I'd love to be in Alligator Bayou again, and, if offered a choice at check-in I'll ask for it.

We have stayed at Alligator Bayou and loved it. Lots of trees and flowers .nice pool etc. I think you would enjoy it.THe usual mod. rooms. Try for a corner room ,you get 2 windows and lots of light.

I lik ePOR, but we choose to stay in the mansions because to us Alligator bayou is kinda cheesy, just because it is themed after our home area.

I vote for cheesy - we have stayed in the mansions, but last time did the bayou for the trundle bed (had extra grandchild with us) and we found the room to be dark and dingy (before renovations - 2000). Also it is very spread out and we got a building that was a LONG walk at night from the bus stop with small children - also a LONG walk to food court. We would not go there again.

I would never use cheesy to describe AB. It's very nice and comfortable.

We stayed at AB at POR as well and I didnt find it cheesy either. It really very rustic and we thought it was very neat.

Do you enjoy Frontierland at the MK? Alligator Bayou has a similar feel to it. The buildings are very pretty (nice understated colors) and the landscaping is very beautiful. Even the parking lot views are pretty! Everything is very green and lush. I would describe the interiors as "homey" not "cheesy." We stayed once in the mansions but found them bland. We much prefer the look of the Bayou!

We have stayed at Riverside numerous times, before renovations, and never had a room with a single issue. Our rooms have always been well-appointed and very clean. Since renovations I imagine they are even nicer. We dislike the small bathrooms but this is the same at all the Moderates. We find Riverside to be a nice mix of price and amenities.

We loved AB! We chose AB over the Mansions as the decor of the Mansions reminds us of our bedroom at home. We were so happy with our decision. It reminded me a lot of the area around Splash Mountain - very rustic and charming. We were in Bldg 14 which was very convenient to everything.

Enjoy!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That being said, I'm surprised that anyone would call either section "cheesy" I live in the deep south and I absolutely love the POR theming.

I think that whenever you are staying at a "themed" resort, you should expect staged decor and landscaping.

Regardless, those who do find POR might need to open up their wallets a little wider and stay at one of the deluxes.....That will leave more room at POR for our family!!!!

I am very lactose intolerant :rotfl:, and AB is anything but 'cheesy'. It is one of the reasons that POR is a personal favorite. It has so much more pizazz and fun than the mansions, which are a little on the dull side.

I wouldn't call it cheesy, but it is most definitely "rustic". Nothing pretty or elegant about it at all. Pine pole bed and chairs, etc., made to look handhewn.

That being said, the landscaping on the AB side is pretty and lush and we found it a nice "hideaway" for the two of us when we stayed there. We had a king/corner room. It was pretty close to the parking lot, though fairly far away from the food court, etc. We didn't mind the walk, however, as the landscaping was so nice. Oddly, we found the room significantly more comfortable (even though it's supposed to be smaller) than our room at WL. The corner layout seemed roomier. At WL we were bumping into each other or the armoir every time we crossed the room!

We'll be there next week too. But lets keep the beauty of this place "our litle secret", ok?

I'm going to agree with it all depending on your idea of "cheesy" :)

I don't see anything cheesy about POR, now if you were asking about POP, that is cheesy :)

I also don't know if I'd call the area quirky ... it's a collection of garden style rooms with quiet, winding pathways marked with leaf imprints. The quiet pools are just that, quiet. No disney theming that I saw. The main pool is cool, but not too kiddish.

How can anyone think this looks cheesy?

POR is one of our favorite resorts and I really enjoy the AB over the Mansions.

Hi there MiJo,

Is that one of the AB bldg's? If so which one? We're going Aug 20. That (101 days!!) that pic got me all excited again...just what I needed after a lousy, lousy day!! Did I mention 101 days?! :goodvibes

Thanks!
Cheryl

POR is wonderful!!! We have made it our home away from home. My girls know that resort like the back of their hand!!! We have always stayed in the AB section. We looked at the mansions once and like someone else said, it reminded me of my bedroom. Anyway, it is not cheesy IMO!!!

Have fun!!! :wave2:

Shhhh, lets keep POR AB our little secret. I think it is one of the nicest resorts Disney has to offer. Nothing "cheezy" about it. Now "cheezy" to me would be the POP resort. We stayed in AB bldg. 14 and loved it. But different strokes for different folks...smjj
