We already have LVC booked...but priced GVC, and the price difference is almost $100/night! I know for sure that I want to stay concierge...but not so sure about this view! Is the view of lagoon worth $600 over a garden view? Keep in mind that we spend alot of time in the parks!

Help!!!

If you are staying most of the time in the parks...will the concierge really benefit you? How often will you be able to get your food from there? If it is not a sufficient amount...I would go with non-concierge and a Lagoon View! But that is my opinion...hopes it helps you with making your decision!

The view is pretty awesome from Hawaii!!::yes:: It was definitely worth it to DD and I, but if you would stew about the price difference, then I would book GVC. We spent quite a lot of time at the resort, so the view was more important to us. But, the GV rooms are nice as well, looking out over the quiet pool, so I would have no problem booking there.

Even if you spend a lot of time at the parks, I find the CL to be a great help. Last minute changes to your itinerary are so easy with CL. To me, the food offerings were a nice bonus, but not the whole reason for staying concierge. DD and I only grabbed breakfast, and a few snacks, so from that standpoint, we didn't "get our money's worth." But, the overall CL experience was definitely worth it, IMO.

One thing that's really nice about the Poly is sitting on the beach at night watching the fireworks and the castle change colors. (I'm getting goose bumps thinking about it!!! They even pipe in the MK music during the fireworks! We stopped caring about Lagoon view so much when we realize we hardly ever really look out the window!

We do it sometimes -- if we get a good enough deal and it's not a really long trip.

That's the thing! I don't think I am getting a deal! It would have been better if AP gave a % off rather than a $ amount!

Think about it -- how much time will you really look out the window? If you need to cut costs -- I'd cut it with the view.

Then use the concierge as much as you can -- don't get a refillable mug!!! Drink up in the concierge lounge -- have breakfast there. BTW, the lounge has a GREAT view!!!!:D

I agree , keep CL and skip the view. I miss the Poly CL:sad: But we aren't going till 2005.

O.K., I am going to be the stick in the mud that says I would pay for the view and CL -- and I am! Last year we received a free upgrade from garden view concierage to lagoon view. Did we love it? Absolutely! We found out how nice it was to be able to sit out on our patio at night and watch the fireworks over the castle. Every night when the EWP started up, my kids would hear the music and run to the patio to watch it. So, this year, I ask my DH where he wants to stay? Poly, definitely! Concierage? Yep! Lagoon view? He looked at me like I had lost my mind to even ask such an absurd question! I know that this probably won't help with your decision but the magic of being able to just gaze at the castle any time you want is just a pure thrill for us. Happy planning!

I would say that if you spend a lot of time at the parks you should book GV. If you aren't going to be in the room enough to enjoy the view you'd be better off saving the extra money.
If your children are young then you might spend more time at the resort in which case you might want to spring for the view.

Your question got me thinking about my upcoming trip in Nov. I have booked a LVC room at Poly hoping to apply AP rates to it. I want AP because I also plan on going in 2005 but I was thinking it would be a % discount not a flat $ discount and your post made me realize I'd be paying $100 more per night for that view rather than the $60 or so I was planning on. And how can I justify that? My kids are still so small that I think we'll be back in the room for the EWP and fireworks. I want them to be able to enjoy those from our room in PJ's and then off to bed. I know I could just walk down to the lounge but I'm just afraid I'd be the one who be really disappointed with the view if we went GV. BUT maybe I will switch. I find it a really difficult decision to make.

...I'm a'tellin' Brian that you iz spendin' all his hard earned do-re-mi!!::yes:: But seriously, did you check the NEW AP rates?? I don't think that the extra $$ is worth it, but that is JMHO:rolleyes: !

I get lots of reports back from people about their trip to the Polynesian. If I had to guess I would say 2 out of every 10 like the lagoon view but did not think it was worth the extra money. The other 8 think it was worth every penny.

If spending the money is a problem than don’t. It is not worth worrying about. The garden view concierge is great.

With that said I don’t spend much time in my room but I don’t go with out the lagoon view. I would give up concierge (as much as I think it is the best on WDW property) before I gave up the lagoon view. I love being able to slide open the door in the morning and walk right to the sand or just sit on the patio and watch the boats and listen to the whistle of the train or the coyote at the Haunted Mansion. I also love that if I am in the room and the Electrical Water Pageant or the fireworks start I can open the door to watch.

Is it necessary for me yes, for some no. It is a perk and I think it is one of those questions you wouldn’t know unless you tried it. I even know some people who have stayed garden view and walked over to check out the view and said,”Nice view but I would not pay for it.” Than they got upgraded one year and actually stayed in the lagoon view room and felt completely different. They won’t stay garden view again.

I have stayed at the Poly 2 times. Once in 1983 and again in 1992. Both times we had a garden view and it was beautiful. However, that was then and this is now! At this point in my life I can afford a lagoon view concierge and that is what I am going to get! We are going the 1st week of Dec and received a AAA rate of 399.00 per night. Adding tax brings this total to about 450.00. Alot of money I know, but we are going for it! It will just be the two of us, DH and myself. The view means the world to my DH and I must admit I am looking forward to it as well.

The garden view is beautiful, but if finances allow, I feel that staying LVC will be an extra special treat!

The exact reason I chose LV over GV, traveling with a 4 and 5 year old means early to bed, etc...etc...

Good Luck!

It is nice to sit on your balcony/patio for the fireworks or EWP, but we think it's even nicer to do this from the concierge lounge and share the excitement with the other guests. It's almost like being in the park but without the crowds and the mass exodus! We did this with our 5 yr. old niece for Wishes (she likes the pretty colors of fireworks, but not the "louds") and she loved it. She was in her jammies, so we just headed back to the room afterwards & she went right to bed.
Like k&a&c'smom, we find the concierge service priceless for the added convenience, so if there's a cost issue, keep concierge & stay garden view. All that said, we are doing lagoon view this week after a long string of garden view stays, just because we haven't done it in a while, and watching the castle change colors from your room while you're relaxing in your pj's is pretty cool!

We stayed in GV Conc. about a month ago but usually stay in LV Conc.. I feel that the castle looks tiny from the balcony but I know others disagree. I pay for LV because it is nice for the little kids to go out on the balcony for the fireworks and the EWP in their jammies and then right to bed for them! It's a pleasant and IMHO sunnier exposure than GV but I wouldn't feel compelled to spend the extra money. We had NO trouble bringing our kids to the front of Hawaii to see the activities at night, it was just a little less convenient for us. You will have a super time, no matter what the choice. I totally agree with Tikiman. I would give up the Concierge to have the lagoon view.

There is just something about getting that glance at the castle when you turn over in the middle of the night that keeps that magic going 24/7!! Also, my children are very young and we almost NEVER are at the parks for the fireworks, so this way we still get to see them and the water parade.

I think the best part of the concierge is the location of the Hawaii building. And, the fact that they can always get you Cinderella's breakfast PS's.

Have a great time!!

So much is said about the view of the Castle from the lagoon view rooms, but not many mention the boat activity. Are there view of the boats coming and going to ferry passengers back and forth to the MK. I would think this looks very pretty at night. Am I right? Tikiman? Anyone?

Pattymouse,

Yes there is much more to a lagoon view than just the castle. You can see the boats and even the lights of the Contemporary across the water are nice to look at when it gets dark. You can also just watch the monorail going around the track.

The ferry and the smaller motor launches run across the lagoon right in front of you.

Aloha

Steve
