Is Pat Robertson "relevant" to mainstream Christians?

I am really curious if "mainstream Christians" think Pat Robertson is relevant. Is he admired by most...or is he considered "fringe"?


I pause to think what would have happened if nearly 2000 years ago Jesus was calling for assassinations or told others who were near death that they are being punished....I hardly think he would have had a following of any importance.


As an American, I am glad we all have freedom of speech, but I can't help but think Pat Robertson is closer to the fringe Muslim leaders pushing for suicide bombers than a Christian trying to spiritually elevate his fellow man.

Any thoughts?

I think he's an idiot. I have yet to meet a Christian IRL that respected him or believed/shared the hatred he spews. I am thankful for that!

No, he is not relevant nor respected. Not by any I know. As a matter of fact today we had our house inspected (we sold it last weekend). The inspector is a Christian, as are we. And he asked if we had heard what Robertson had said. I hadn't and my dh had. We all agreed that it was appalling and we had never met this inspector before!

Hey Pat -- "every good and perfect gift comes from above, in which there is no variation or shifting shadow." Under the New Testement, the Gospel (the "good news") God does not bring disease or disaster upon people! Jesus died for all sin -- remember!

If Pat really thinks God brings bad things upon people who don't follow His Word, then I wouldn't stand next to Pat during a lightning storm.

Of course he has the right to think these things and to even say them. But, as a public figure/religous leader he has the responsibility to be a decent human being.

My mother thinks he's a lunatic. My father, on the other hand, while he doesn't refer to Pat Robertson directly, has said things along the lines of god cleansing New Orleans of its filth with the hurricane. Then, when he's called on the carpet, back-pedals and says that he meant something else.
I'm not a Christian, so I can't say.

I'm a practicing, non-denominational Christian, and Pat Robertson is relevant to me only by way of my disgust for his xenophobic, diseased mind.

He is, IMO. Further, I never hear anything being said or considered important that ANY televangelist says. We're too busy doing our thing with our own churches and our own communities to pay attention to nattering nabobs.
