Is Park Vue Inn worth $50.00 more/night than HOJO?

I know that PVI has free breakfast and is closer... but is it THAT much closer? Is the PVI nicer? The difference is 50.00/night - although I figure it will probably be at least 25ish each day for breakfast for the 4 of us. So really, I guess 25.00 a night. Is it 25.00/night nicer???

Thanks!

Can't comment on the hotel, but just that it's only $25/day for b-fast if you buy it somewhere. We packed breakfast bars, juice boxes, etc in our luggage. Bonus was that it leaves room for souvenirs on the way home. I actually brought dry cereal and soy milk (stores at room temp prior to opening) for the kids. Maybe this can help out your budget a bit :)

I haven't stayed at PVI so can't comment on the hotel, but if it was me I would keep the $50 per night and stay at Hojo. We find Hojo comfortable. The walk is definitely longer. PVI is right near the crosswalk across from the park. Hojo is a 10-15 minute walk, depending on walking speed and how much walking you've already been doing :). We usually bring our own breakfast things such as cereal, cereal bars, pop-tarts, and/or fruit because it's way cheaper than buying breakfast somewhere and because we don't want to spend our morning time waiting for, getting, and eating food. Of course, the park usually opens at 8 or 9 AM when we go, so we want to get moving. Maybe we wouldn't begrudge the time so much if the park wasn't opening until 10.

I think that is a good way to think of it. Bringing breakfast though you don't hand money to anyone in anaheim, isn't free, or nearly as simple as walked 200 feet and putting what you want on a plate.

For the extra $25 you also get to take advantage of a social hour. You could chalk that up as a $4 snack times 4people. So now your looking at $9 extra per night.

Oh and if you get the welcome gift basket that's worth say $15, so divide that by the number of nights for your stay. Maybe now you are looking at $6 more per night.

A very short walk will be much appreciated each night and not chancing hearing I-5 all night, that's probably worth something.

Never tried PVI only HOJO. I am guessing that PVI breakfast is continental type, not a big deal for me, when I bring those type of items to eat in the room and save time. We drive, and have stopped at WalMart down the street and grabbed a few things- in fact last time we bought sliced meat and rolls from their service deli, and had the best meal back at the room. Also while we were there, they were doing a promo and gave us a whole box of microwave breakfast biscuts (score!) so we were covered the next morning too!
Also they have cheap souveniers there to- tee shirts, key chains, mugs. And we always forget something, and it's so easy to hop on the freeway and go up 2 exits to WalMart.
I really enjoyed HoJo, and it helped that we got the Entertainment guide deal.
Were doing it again next month and will just pack a little ice chest for the room.

Forgot to add that we did have an end room right off the freeway, and it was pretty loud when the balcony door was open. Too tired at night to notice!;)
This time we reserved a Disney facing room to try.
Also if the weather is warm, the pirate water play area was a huge selling point with my Grandkids!

I wouldn't pay $50 more PVI... yes it is close but that's a big difference... I wouldn't budget on $25 for the breakfast in terms of the breakfast you will get from PVI, more like about $15...

If you don't mind the Hojo walk then consider one of the cheaper hotels on Katella and save yourself $100 per night for about the same walk...

I have never stayed at PVI but have stayed at HOJO. HOJO is a nice hotel but since I no longer have young children to take advantage of the themed pool I plan on staying at PVI on our trip later this year. I think the free breakfast, free evening snack and shorter walk will be worth the price difference. :)

I don't care of PVI. It's super close though. So if that extra walk down to HOJO is going to be an issue for you than yeah, it's probably worth the extra. I had an issue with this hotel charging my credit card for days that I never stayed after I had long checked out. When I called to find out what was up, they said someone with a really weird name had made the reservation and by weird name it was like a fake name, something like IP Freely. haha. (not) They also didn't want to refund the money. I had to go through my credit card company to get the charges reversed. So because of that, I don't like them nor recommend them.
Now, HOJO is much nicer, more comfortable and has a better pool area. If you're concerned about saving some $$ for breakfast, HOJO has a fridge and a microwave in most rooms, so you can stock up on some breakfast stuff. There is a small store at the hotel where you can get milk, cereal, etc. from if you don't have a car or don't want to drive elsewhere.

For me, the walk and bfast alone are worth it. Plus, they have free bottles of water, fruit, and warm cookies in the lobby most of the day!

I am facing the same dilemma. Except the price difference is only approx $20 per night for our dates. No entertainment rates since it's Easter weekend.

For the extra $20 I'd stay at PVI in a second. they have a deluxe breakfast which includes all the usual continental items plus bacon or sausage, make your own fresh waffles, and pre-made cheese omelettes. The omelettes leave something to be desired but they are edible and I ate them every morning to get my protein.

Now I've heard that they've also added a social hour with finger type foods. We do take an afternoon break every day and this would really help with not spending money on dinner. We tend to do a big lunch at the park before resting, so a light snack at 5pm would really hit the spot and save us money!

The walk of course can't be beat.

We've stayed at the PVI twice and love it. It's totally closer, and at the end of a long day - SO nice to just walk right across the street!

Great thread- found with search LOL
We've stayed at HOJO twice and our next trip coming up soon we've booked at PVI.
I wanted something closer if possible. I know HOJO isn't far, but it can be if you're super tired and/or you have blisters and/or you have a young one with blisters. especially that last one. :lmao:
The pool is nicer at HOJO I'm sure... but the breakfast and social hour at PVI makes up for that and we're not staying as long precruise this time, as we did last time, so we won't make good use out of the pool anyway. *shrugs* For us the price was almost identical! :confused3 I dunno if I'd want to pay $50 a night to go to PVI though. If there was that price difference I'd probably go ahead with HOJO.
I was looking for the cheapest of the places closest to the entrance to DL. For me they were about the same price (Probably because of having to pay for 5th person/cot at HOJO and the room fitting 5 at PVI) -so i went with the closest.. then ofcourse add on the breakfast and social hour which I'll make sure to make good use of. haha

I hope we like it! Never had any complaints at HOJO though. :)

We are staying at PVI in March. When I called I asked about the social hour and it could very well end up being a light dinner for us a few nights. They said the menu varies from tacos, enchiladas, to pasta. Breakfast includes the normal breakfast stuff...make your own waffles, bacon, egg, cereal, oatmeal, etc. If you are on facebook, they sometimes have special deals for FB fans. I got a cheaper rate by calling them instead of booking online. Some have said the rooms are really small, but it's just me and my daughter, so that won't be a problem. We are definitely saving money by staying here rather than Paradise Pier. We'll have to splurge our next trip and stay at a resort hotel!:goodvibes

We are staying at PVI in June. Family of mom plus 5 kids age 13-26! We are counting on that big breakfast and light meal in our budget, plus water bottles, apples and cookies from the lobby I don't have to buy! Book early for great rates.
We have a suite with 2Q, pullout couch, LR and kitchen. Ordering groceries from Vons for lunches and snackums.
Social hour daily also always includes soup and salad and cookies for dessert.
For my big family this was a great choice and worth the difference.

How much cheaper was it to book thru phone?
I booked ours online and it was $129 a night. When I attempt to book online now for the same nights (I was just checking LOL) it's now $139. We booked the bunkbeds room. I wish it was a cheaper rate. LOL

I booked quite awhile back. I knew we'd be coming at a busy time of year and wanted to book before the rates went up. I was given the standard room rate of $89/night. I don't know if they do that all the time, but I've heard other people say that if you call instead of booking online, they'll usually give you a cheaper rate. I think it also depends on the time of year that you call.

I always ring hotels for the best deals, I first look online at their website for the best deal or special (even if not valid for my period of travel), then knowing the best deal i can get online I call them during working hours and ask for the reservations manager and say I am ringing around for quotes and am after the best possible deal for my stay, be sure to quote any web specials if the price is higher. I typically save 10 to 20% on the best online special but you have to have a bit of the gift of the gab if you know what I mean...

YES! My sister and I were just discussing this and we feel that the LOCATION combined with the recent redo and the general nicety of the hotel are worth it to us. We have stayed there several times and it's always been good to us. Perfect and luxurious? No, but nice enough and worth the price we pay.:goodvibes
