we will be traveling to WDW for our first time in Nov. It will be myself, Dh, DS (9) and DD (5).

we are going to get a Pal Mickey :earboy2: but if we get one we will have to get one for each of them. i was just wondering if it was worth spending the money for both of them and will we really use it much. i just dont want to buy two of them and they sit in the room the entire time.

please help.

your advise is greatly appreicated.

We got ours for $27.99 from the Character Warehouse (954) 846-7161. We also bought 2 - with shipping they were less than the cost of 1 in the parks! I found the number for this here on the boards. They arrived really fast - I think it was less than a week. They are the old version - I guess this year he is wearing a tux for the celebration. I think they are really cute, although we haven't had a chance to use them in the parks yet! HTH

thanks for the advise. the cheapest i have found them is 32.00 + shipping on Ebay. it would be somewhere around 45.00 after shipping. i hope they are worth it.i will definately call the number that you gave.

I spoke to someone not too long ago that wished they had never bought Pal Mickey. She said it worked only at random, batteries needed to be changed during their stay and, worst, of all, was a real nuisance to carry with them throughout the day. I do not want to sound too negative, just wanted to give you a "heads up!"

:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: 18 days and counting!

I bought My Pal Mickey last summer for my niece who was 14. She thought it was cool the way it told corny jokes and would tell interesting facts about the parks.

jrjac - I'm jealous - only 18 days!!

I've been told that you can get new batteries for them in any stores that sell them and they clip onto a lanyard. I guess, like everything, it's all a matter of opinion - only you really know if these things will bother you! Have fun :cool1:

I got mine for $27.99 at the Character Warehouse last Dec for my January trip. My 8 y/o GD quickly tired of him on our very first day, but I loved him. However he can be a nuisance with his contant giggling and vibrating. I carried him around, but at one point my adult son asked me how much I had paid for him and offered to buy me another one when we left if I'd let him throw mine in one of the lakes. I had read he was difficult to keep on with his clip, so made him another one. I threaded one of those mutipurpose ties through the keychain part of a caniber clip, then tightened it around his neck and used the caniber clip to hook him onto my backpack. He must be facing forward though as you enter the parks or he can't download information, since his antenna is in his nose.

I took him back when I went this past May and I'm afraid I never got him out of my suitcase. I'm going back in Sept with my other son and my D-I-L and she wants to carry him, so I guess he'll be making his third trip back to the World.

I also bought 2 of the old Pal Mickey's for $28 ea + $5 shipping (for both) from the Character Warehouse for my two girls (DD7 and DD4). They shipped them out really fast, and I can't wait to use them. With both kids I definitely had to get 1 for each of them, or there would have been much fighting. I'm going to surprise them with them when we get to WDW. I would not have gotten the full price dolls. My only concern is whether the two Pal Mickeys are going to be saying the exact same thing to each of my girls at the same time. That could be a little redundant. I'm going to try to rig up a way to come up with a way to attach a retractable clip to the Pal Mickey so the kids can pull them up to their ear without always having to unclip them from their belts.

I think i bought mine two trips ago...i absolutley love my pal mickey
He worked fine and was quiet in shows and giggled and laughed when he had a corny joke or a tip to tell us. I attatched him to my fanny pack he stayed on on every ride from splash mountain to space mountain and everything in between! He told us charachter locations and he told us when certain lines where short. He played 2-3 games which entertained me on lines and he was no hassle to carry around! I never left the hotel without him!
The only complaint i had was he has two comments to make durning two rides (beginning or peter pan and middle of haunted mansion) but I took him out and listened he said some interesting stuff (so i guess that's not a complaint so i have none at all)
He was really fun to have and i liked bringing him to new places so he learned new things to tell me. He never 'really' said the 'same' thing twice...he would say version A then if we walked by it again he would say version B....
All in all pal mickey get's MY seal of approval!

We "rented" a Pal Mickey during our trip last summer. He ended up being the cause of several arguments between the four of us (me, DH and 2 DS's) because no one wanted to carry him for more than an hour or so. :earboy2: We went through a lot of "C'mon, Mom, don't you want to carry him for a little while? Dontcha? Please??" Both of my boys agreed, willingly, mind you, to turn him back in after two days in the parks.

So does anyone know if your 2 children each have their own Pal Mickey does he say the same thing to both of them at the same time? Or does he have a different joke or nugget for each of them?

to answer you're question since you will all be walking around together to the same places at the same time he most likely WILL tell them the same joke/tidbit/information/show time at the same time because since you are all walking together the two pal mickey's will be hit with the sensors at the same time

you could try getting a pal mickey version 1 and version 2
unless that would cause problems

Went 2 yrs ago w/DD 7 and DS 5. We were glad each of them had their own. They understood that this was their souvienier from Disney (any others they had to purchase themselves). They were a hit. They played with them in lines, loved the jokes, and kept using them in the rooms. They also carried them most of the time. When they wern't, we had them in our back pack with Mickey's head stiking out the top.

From the DM's perspective, the only time I wanted to strangle dear mickey was when both of my children held them up to my ears so I could hear the jokes. The problem was, it was never in unison, and they were a few words off. I was hearing Mickey's laugh in my dreams.

We are going again in Oct and both the kids can't wait to take them again. We even bought them for our neices and nephews going with us. :earsgirl:

Thanks to both of the replies. Yeah, I think it would cause problems if one child had Mickey in a tux and the other didn't. I think we can tolerate them hearing the same info. I'm doing the same thing - surprising them both with the Pal Mickey as their presents (although I have other surprises too - including Princess dresses I got at a great deal on sale from Disney direct!), and then any other souveniers they want they get with their own money. They've been saving their allowance and doing extra chores for weeks now. It's been great.

since this is our first time we were also getting mickeys for our kids. if we do not get two there will be fighting the entire time
what is the difference between the old mickey andd the new mickey other than the tux

we are also giving the kids their allowance in disney dollars between now and when we leave. so they will have to spend their own money while there. this will their one suvinere from mom and dad.

this board has been very helpful. thanks to you all for your advice

by the way... does anyone know if they make a "pal minnie"'?

also you may want to check out the post on updating the pal mickey before buying. it has useful information on the differences on the old mickey and new ones.

thanks

So I heard a rumor about a Pal Goofy. Anyone else hear about this? Is there any truth to the rumor?
